It's pretty much the same. Even the controller style is the type used in Turok, as opposed to Goldeneye.

Which one? Halo or Marathon?

Marathon was Bungie's first good game. It's a Doom-like game for the Mac only. Since PC users had Doom, Mac needed their own big FPS. And in quite a few ways, the Marathon trilogy is superior to Doom. The graphics are slightly better, the storyline's more complex. There's a flamethrower and civies you can light on fire.

After Marathon, Bungie made a D&D-based RTS pair, Myth and Myth 2, both also on Mac only. But both are really really good, with realistic terrain and specialized units. You don't build anything in Myth, you start with an army and you have to keep them alive. I haven't seen either online.

Then came Oni *bleh* and Halo 1-2.

If there were three Mac-only games I would sell my soul to play, it would be Marathon, Myth, and Escape Velocity. Well, I got my first wish.

Before you kill yourself, I started this thread becuase I was able to play Marathon on my comptuer. Notice the above picture? How it's running on Win?

Around 2003 or so, a bunch of slashdotters got together and made an Open Source version of the marathon engines that run on Win and Linux. However you had to have the original data files... I had the third game on a MAC disk so couldn't access them.

But last year or this year Bungie made the trilogy free so you can download them off the net (more companies should do this... to think some still charge you for a game that's worth less than $1...). Someone converted the files to PC.

Thus, it is now playable on a PC and it's FREE.

To get the games:
Marathon 1 - go here and download M1A1, either version 1.2 or 1.6. No installation necessary, the game runs straight from the zip file
Marathon 2 & 3
- First, download the game engine from here
- then download the data files from here
- combine and enjoy

....Also, it seems I won't need to sell my soul. I forgot this came out in 2004, but it's only the demo. I didn't even know this existed.
