Bolo plays the villain! Bolo plays the villain! And Zero's boss, the hard-boiled angry police chief who Zero suspects is in on the take in the beginning of the movie but turns out be a vindicated good guy, will be Bill Duke.

Vietnam is a place, not a time. He was trained in Vietnam last year, at a dojo in Ho Chi Minh City.

Well that's decidedly less cool. There's nothing hard-boiled about going there when the war's already over. And what sort of training would he get in Vietnam anyway? Not to mention why would the Vietnamese call their training facility a dojo? Isn't that word Japanese? Even if it has a Chinese root of some sort, that doesn't explain why Vietnamese people would be using it. They have their own language.

Aikido is a Japanese discipline. his master is Japanese. he just happened to immigrated to Vietnam because land was cheap after the war.

You know instead of having his Master move to Vietnam after the war cause land was cheap. And then some mook getting on plane and paying this guy to train him, it'd be cooler if the Master was exiled from Japan after World War 2 for not accepting American occupation. Then the Vietcong leaves Zero, who was a member of an elite Special Forces group, for dead after wiping out his squad. He is saved by this Master, who then agrees to teach him. The master learns that not all Americans are blue eyed devils while Zero learns the ancient arts.

Meanwhile back in American a rival Mob family kills off all of Zero's family in attempt to gain soul control of the city. Hearing rumors of a surviving member of the family in Vietnam, they track him down, but kill his master instead. So Zero returns to the states to not only avenge his family and Master, but to reclaim his rightful place as the Don of the Mafia.

Now that's a movie right there.

Change some of the elements. Like Cambodia instead of 'Nam. Kung-fu instead of Akido, it's cooler anyway. A female Chinese master instead of a male Japanese one.
