When I was younger I was traumatized by a raccoon who came to the box that was outside of my sliding glass door and stole a kitten. I tried to get outside but the door jammed. The kitten was screaming. I tore the door off it's tracks and ran after the raccoon. It ran behind the garbage cans and I chased it. I picked up a rock and threw it...but I missed. The raccoon carried of the kitten into the woods and I followed but the woods were full of vines that were holding me back. I roared in anger but there was nothing I could do...the kittens screams grew fainter and fainter until I could no longer hear them. With tears in my eyes I grabbed the remaining 3 kittens and held them in my bed sobbing...then I got mad and punched a couple holes in the dry wall, swearing that all raccoons were now my mortal enemies to be exterminated no matter what the cost.
Last night I dreamt I was in my old house and there were kittens everywhere. They were the progeny of my first pet ever "Robert the Cat" who was white with spot markings and a heart shaped mark along his right side.
In the dream I remembered the aforementioned experience and got really worried about protecting the...and suddenly a raccoon appeared. A young one that probably wasn't big enough to carry off these dream kittens (they were already older kittens, like small cats actually, not like the tiny kitten that was taken).
I took up my katana and slashed it's throat as it looked up at me with innocent eyes. Everything kind of went slow motion as the blade connected to it's neck. There was only a little blood and then it died. Then another one came and I was gonna kill it too but then I heard a girl's voice talking about how something (this thing wasn't a real animal some kind of monster) eats the raccoons, the circle of life etc. So I put out some tuna fish and the kittens ran inside the house except for 1 that didn't seem to realize who I was and wouldn't come near me. He ran off into the yard but I had a feeling he'd be ok.
It was the soul of that kitten that was carried off years ago come to tell me to let go of my hatred for raccoons and move on.
