But she's the first hispanic on the court, so I'm supposed to be happy. Hooray.

Seriously, I went to a "brown" school--predominantly poor, dark Hispanics--in the second grade here in SA and it was a complete shock. 90-95% of the collective students and teachers I encountered were fucking morons and you learn retard math and fucking retard English. You want to know why a lot of brown people are fucking retards, it's because the schools teach them to be fucking retards. The "standards", if you can call them that, are shit. It was a BIG shock from having come from the nice white schools I went to in North Texas. I ended up in a predominantly white school for 3rd to 8th and while it still felt too slow for me, at least I was actually learning shit. I went to a magnet school for high school where it was far more mixed with more brown folks, but given the amount that were part of the magnet school, the majority of them were the brightest from their respective schools. But I could still easily pick out the people who went to the poorer brown schools. The way they talked and acted, it was sadly obvious. There is no way in hell someone who goes to nothing but "brown" schools here--in the seventh largest city in the country, mind you--is properly prepared for college. NO FUCKING WAY. I met loads of them as an SI at my old uni, they are so not prepared you almost want to cry. They'd have to fed Encyclopædia Britannica like Celina Sotomayor did for Sonia, and that shit just doesn't happen.

I more or less agree though I will add that there are instances, especially in familial interactions I've personally witnessed, where women have powet but *still* yield it to men and often to the woman's own detriment. All of this has often made me feel very hopeless and depressed, even back since I was a little girl.
In fact, I am far more sensitive to sexism than I am to racism. I remember being about five years old and thinking something along the lines of "Fuck, I'm boned. I'm a fucking girl." I honestly didn't even give race issues that much thought until a few years ago.

I don't know what you mean by "latino country productions". Like films in Mexico and such? I have no way of knowing without taking insane amounts of time and I don't see enough Latin films to know off the top of my head. Also, as far as I know, the film industry in Mexico is not one non-Latin people yearn to break into like the American one, so the number would certainly be low. However, prominent Latino producer/directors like Robert Rodriguez, Guillermo del Toro, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and Alfonso Cuarón have all produced and directed films that starred non-Latinos.

Yeah I know what you said. But what I meant by beating my nose is that I've even been able to smell it on people that have clean cloths, bathed, and not smoked that day. I could still smell it then. (This was usually at work, before their first "Break") Especially the 2nd meeting. Cause we were very close to each other and I can't see you taking that whole bus ride and not smoked at least once. Course if you were smoking GPC brand I have been around that brand so much that might explain why I didn't notice at all.

I fail to see what 4 kids in a diner has to do with what I'm talking about. The people that kept them out of there were racists. Well if it's just a bunch of little things I don't see what you're all up in arms about. As for the feedback of being boned I'm just going on what I've been told. I've never been boned and have no plans to experience it (regardless of where I work apparently). But to be truthful I think girls got the better deal sexually. Well I did once throw one of my shirts away cause I went over to a friends house and his dad smoked and I couldn't get the smell out of it even after washing it. I can tell the difference between Diet and reg. soda by smell (very helpful when a waitress/waiter messes up and you don't want to have to drink after someone.) It just blows my mind how people take for granted that which they're afforded here. In other parts of the world minorities aren't treated to any representation at all, instead they're treated to mustard gas. And the reason that's not so here is because of the predominantly white american culture that set this place up, but is apparently out to get the minorities.
You can't lump the people that are "keeping you down" in with the rest of the white people. (not that you are specifically, but a lot of people to do)

I have to disagree. Society doesn't dictate male dominance it was dictated by nature. I cite the animals that are closest to us as evidence. Which is why I say it's two different worlds. Also (and more importantly), androgens in the womb do shit to our brains that make the genders unique. We don't think the same. So technically you wouldn't be you no matter how you slice it, but as far as what would actually happen I guess we'll never know for sure.

You are reading things too exact. I'm not saying to divide shit up, I'm saying this: All things being equal, if there is 35% red and 65% blue, then if there were no biases, inequalities, etc., 35% of anything should be red and the rest should be blue. But it's not. I'm am using the disproportionate amount to show the inequality, period. I never said we should divide powet that way ourselves, but if all things were equal, it should already be that way.

I wasn't talking about civil rights activists per say (I meant the civil war) but how can you say that you want to honor them when you don't believe in the ideal here that people aren't judged by race. Yes there are some racists here just like everywhere in the world, but if that statement was entirely false then there would have been some ethnic cleansing done by now. As far as the natural 35% representation there are plenty of other reasons other than racism for why it doesn't automatically instantly come out that way. And yes you do have to give up your individual cutlural identity to do this. All those other groups I mentioned did it. Lighter skin? The president is black. The number one box office draw celebrity in hollywood is also black. The italians spoke a different language and weren't all white either. In fact they should be used as the model. Did they immigrate in large groups? Yes, and there was room for them. So for example, in the case of mexico we should just accept this alien culture slowly trickling in and not assimilating just because they live next door? Being from miami is like being from the future here. I've seen first hand what happens when a foreign group is allowed unmitigated immigration and retains it's own cultural identity instead of going native and takes over a portion of a state. The discrimination goes beyond racism to culturalism, which is something that I can't see a solution for.
And how can we measure the assimilation? When everyone is speaking english as their primary language in public is a very good sign. I don't want to go into a government building and hear everyone speaking spanish. Not making english the official language of America has to be one of the stupidest things ever. It's not racism to do that, it helps ties the citizens together culturally.

Minorities should have to sacrifice their culture and identity to some degree. The degree of the italians (which is why I said they should be the model). English is their main language. You don't see them walking around speaking italian in america giving dirty looks to people that can't speak it.

People can make songs and movies in other languages if they wish, but that would be out of artistic expression rather than because that's the primary language they speak. We wouldn't be marketing foreign language stuff to people that primarily speak foreign languages anymore.

It was fun, my friend Mike's g/f worked at the bar in the Hyatt so I got free drinks the whole time.
Didn't go to very many panels and I didn't bring any money for the dealer room, in general I was not very prepared.
For the love of goth preregister if you plan on going, the line is hours long and un-ventilated if you do not.
Next year I may decide to cosplay if I can think of a character that suits me.

The Republican party controls the insurance industry in Texas, so I know what my opinion at work has to be on anything related to the health care debate, whether it's my opinion or not. :laugh: The few times I've been around a political argument and it was obvious I was expected to make a comment, I've said, "You know, if we apologize and go back to England, we'll see Prince William on TV a lot more...." with a big grin. I have worked at two restaurant jobs, and at both of them, the entire kitchen staff was hispanic/mexicans who barely spoke english. Odds are they were all illegal immigrants. I would bet you real money if you were to go to any popular restaurant chain, or hell, any restaurant at all, and you'd find the same thing. They slave them over a hot griddle for 12 hours a day and pay them $3 an hour. They don't bitch, they don't get benefits, they don't get vacations.
Gotta love all these fucking shitheads who whine about illegal immigrants stealing all our jobs, and then turn around and hire them because they're cheap exploitable labor like the Chinese are. You don't want illegals, don't fucking hire them.
