Title: Gustav is on the way!
Post by: Bernie AKA on Aug 26, 2008, 03:55:22 PM
Oil prices are already on the rise - fill up now! :scared: Time for the Spam and Bottled Water Destruction Derby in Houston stores!

This damn thing best not land on Monday.  If I'm going to have to stay late every day afterwards handling claims, I'd better get a day off out of the deal.  >:(

Wish they had named it Gustavus, as in the Baron Munchausen movie character that blew everything down.  ;D

Not according to the Cone of Uncertainty.   :joe:

I think Baskin-Robbins shoud do a hurricane special called the Cone of Uncertainty whenever a storm gets into U.S. territory waters - for a dollar, the ice cream grunt closes his/her eyes and dives into the case with a scoop.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

People in the Meridian area have already bought up all the gas cans and bottled water, and all the hotels are "no vacancy" since we're a regular evac route for coasters.

Gas was $3.299 early this week...now at the same place it's $3.599.  Plus, Labor Day weekend's always a bitch when it comes to gas prices, so this is like a double whammy.

I've been opening my window and blowing really hard to push this bad boy away.  It can't rain on Saturday.  Gustav, keep back!  Shit, rain like hell on Tuesday and give me an extra day's vacation.

Normally we get out at 3 PM on a holiday weekend Friday, but today we have to stay and wrap everything up in plastic like that Twin Peaks chick.

You guys need to send that damn hurricane this way. Until today we've been in the middle of a drought so bad, that the pond in front of my mom's trailer park, that used to be 6 feet deep, is now less than 6 inches deep. And I've NEVER seen the pond shrink that much! It sometimes goes down a foot, but never enough so you can see nearly the entire bottom.

Gustav narrowly missed where I live, but it's supposed to be heading northeast at some point.

HERE COMES HANNA! That fucking storm is dancing around Haiti. Oh, Ike and Josephine are coming too. I guess putting 2 in the pink and 1 in the stink really does offend God.

Yesterday was great to clean, steam clean and reorganize a living room.  It sure felt nice walking outside to cool off.  Today has been rainy and gross though.

The most we got was spittle and some clouds.  They were talking about how it was going to rain but the rain never happened.  Not where I live.

The hurricane's in the middle of Texas and the damn thing's still a Cat 1.

For some reason when hurricanes come through the Gulf, we get a lot of rain too. It's raining like mad. Last time I checked the pond near my mother's house was completely dry... I wonder what it will look like tomorrow.

My mother called yesterday saying gas prices were going up to $6 due to the hurricane. I doubted that, but went out to get gas anyway because my car was almost at E and I'd have to get gas this weekend anyway. Out of paranoia, gas has gone up to $4.50 in some places, and the cheapest I saw was $3.89, with short lines at those gas stations. Cheaper Detroit stations had even longer lines. I bet most of those people heard the $6 rumor and went to get gas even though their cars have over a half tank.

Edit: I can't even joke about this shit. The fucker's coming straight for us!  :keelover:

We are expecting rain from Ike the next couple days...cause after the bad boy took a major dump on Houston he headed directly north.

Minor flooding, high winds, powet outages, and a tornado took out part of Plymouth! And the pond only has 6 inches in it right now!

And hurricane bears (http://), as well.

No hurricane is like another hurricane.  People on the coast who think, "Well, it held up fine during _____!" are idiots.  The majority of the damage was from storm surge, and even though Ike was technically a Cat 2 for wind speed, the height & powet of the surge was a Cat 4.  Run from water, hide from wind - hell, we had flood damage and we're 70 miles inland.

How about a good story?  Eddie found a gorgeous border collie (in heat, no less) after the hurricane.  No way we could keep her - ads on Petfinder & craigslist to no avail.  Got all her shots and a friend offered to keep her - she wiggled under the fence (friend neglected to mention that she'd be outside). I drove around and was about to give up when something told me to go down one more street, and there she was!  Got her spayed and she's been adopted by a friend who has a border collie and wanted our foundling for his mom, but his dog is having too much fun with her.  Since his dog is named Xena, her new name just had to be Gabrielle.  Gay guys....

Well, Xena started attacking her, so her name is Molly again and she's living in our spare bedroom.  Eddie wants to keep her, so we'll try for a couple of weeks. Working her in with our other dogs will take a while. So far, he's getting up at 5 AM to walk her - border collies need a lot more exercise than our 4 lugs, so we'll see how long this devotion to duty lasts.

Oh, and we're telling Comcast to fuck off 10/31 for U-Verse.  The soonest they could come to the house to see why our HD isn't working is after Thanksgiving.  Can get some channels on the non-HD box, and still no internet.  But do they want our $140 on time?  YOU BETCHA!!  :poo: NO credits issued until they have all the outages fixed!

What's U-Verse?  And was I supposed to picture one dog hitting the other with a chakram?

AT&T's IP TV/internet package.  Phone too, but we're keeping the regular landline.  Instead of paying $140 for digital cable & internet and $55 for phone, we'll be paying $129 for everything.  :)

Close - Xena started going for the throat & belly, which wasn't too good considering Molly still had her spay stitches.  Dog conflicts are more common between two females.  We have all boys, but they've never been very friendly with dogs outside their little pack, so it has to go slowly.  It's obvious she's more attached to Eddie, so "his" dogs aren't as accepting - then again, Sean & Killian are pointer & rat terrier respectively; not the calmest of breeds. Maki & Rowan are Eskie & Lab/shepherd and "my" dogs - they were fine after a few days.
