Yeah... Yeah. They try to have it both ways, too. After all the Deadpools make their dramatic entrance, Deadpool Prime makes a speech about multiverses being played out and haven't we had enough of this already, etc. Yes, but you're still doing it. But because you're furiously winking and nodding at the audience, that's meant to bring it all back around to being entertaining again? Nope.

To be fair, it's all just setup for a prolonged murder montage that's actually pretty fun, if ultimately meaningless. Because what is Deadpool known for? Getting back up after being horribly mangled/mutilated.

Huh. They liked it.

Also, it made like almost $450m this weekend. I guess the cow will continue to be milked into the foreseeable future.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'll watch it for free later on. I'm not a big fan of Deadpool, but I find those flicks more entertaining than roughly 75% of everything else Marvel produces.

BTW, the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths movies are utter trash. The resemblance between these and the source material is virtually non-existent, and it only exists to kill all the animated movie continuity from the last ten or so years.

The first half of the animated Watchmen effort was actually enjoyable, although I could live without the herky-jerkiness of the animation. But it actually looks like the book, which counts for something. However, the live-action Watchmen was one of the few adaptations that actually improved on the book, so take it as you will.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Eh. It was okay. Way too many subplots. In fact, it was nothing but subplots, with no real main throughline. The "threat" spends the entire runtime searching for Beetlejuice, only to be vanquished almost immediately in the final act.

Almost as if the writers held a brainstorming session and didn't really land on any one great idea, so they just settled on throwing in all the middling ones.

I'm kind of baffled by the mostly positive reception it's getting. Maybe "good enough" is enough for some, but I certainly wouldn't call the movie good.

Any cool visuals in it? Or a snazzy musical number?

It seemed like a lot of the effects were practical, which I appreciate, but when the visuals aren't really serving the plot/characters/humor, they're quickly and easily forgotten.

That's another big problem, it's just not very funny. I heard some snickering and mild chuckles scattered throughout, but they almost sounded obligatory. As in, "I paid for a comedy, I should probably be laughing a little bit." Exceedingly lukewarm audience reactions.

As for the music, I'm sure you're wondering if there's anything like the Harry Belafonte sequence from the first film. There is, but it's utterly forced and (forgive me) CRINGE as fuck. Not only that, it absolutely goes on FOREVER.

Transformers One was alright. Some of the attempts at humor didn't land with me, but overall it was a pretty decent modern reimagining of the Transformers' origins. I'd certainly take more of these purely animated things over another hybrid live action trainwreck.

The new Salem's Lot is hot garbage. I can totally understand why WB didn't know what to do with it. I would have skipped a release altogether and stuffed it in the water tower with Yakko, Wakko, Dot, and Batgirl.

Joker 2 was okay. Critics and audiences alike really seem to be dogpiling on it, though...

I watched a review and read a summary of it and it sounds boring. But I didn't even bother with the first one. "Lee"?  What's with the "Lee" thing?  What the fuck was wrong with "Harley"?

Venom: The Last Dance wasn't awful. Probably the best Venom movie? Low bar to clear, I know.

I didn't even know there was a third one until people at work were talking about seeing it. And it was, like, oh, they're still making those, I guess.

Watched Transformers One. I didn't find it atrocious, but it's about ten years too late for me to care about the property as a film franchise anymore.

Weird these days how I hear about a remake or reboot and I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't happen. Like how the Xena reboot curled up into a ball and died. Oh, yeah and the Daria reboot where they tried to shoehorn her black friend as a title character. So glad that shit died, too. I know that's mega cynical and we shouldn't want this stuff to fade away and "they can't ever take the old one away from you" or whatever. But I also like the idea that sometimes things begin and then end.  And they get put to rest peacefully instead of greedy suits spending twenty years playing Weekend at Bernie's with their corpse.

I forgot to talk about Heretic. It was good, but it's already begun to fade. I will say it's the first time in a long while that a movie has made me feel like I was sitting on the edge of a panic attack for a decent chunk of its runtime.

Super pretty to look at. No real conflict to speak of. Just a nice story, I suppose.
