Huh, I didn't know the Sony deal. No wonder it blew up, because now there's real money at stake.
Here's the take of the Sphere's resident neanderthal: the guy's voice is annoying, but as I rarely watch English translations anymore it's a non-issue: thus he's irrelevant to me, so I have no reason to attack or defend him. But anyone who fawns over a voice actor at a convention to the point that they let them skeeve all over them is a God forsaken imbecile who shouldn't have been let out of the house by mommy or their court-assigned shrink. If the guy was doing shit to his peers and lording some semblance of authority or whatever over coworkers to suit his perverted purposes, why was nothing done about it? I just don't get the brou-ha-ha...sounds like he needed a good tending to after being such an asshole, but if it's more than just that (not saying it wasn't) where's the arrest record? Where're the affidavits? Where's the hospital report of an angry father/brother/boyfriend/husband who beat the shit out of him? Where's the cell footage of his public improprieties? Instead, we have online bitching, which makes me question the veracity and severity of the whole shebang (maybe a bad choice of words but anyway). It's not like he's a crime boss that everyone's scared to cross...he's a fucking cartoon voice actor.
I realize women are hesitant to do anything when stuff like this comes up. But that's how shit of this nature propagates, yet I'm not prepared to condemn and blackball someone when there's been nothing said or done that amounts to anything until very recently and hasn't been adjudicated. And I know that makes me merit my self-applied neanderthal label, but still. There's how things are and how they ought to be, and until people stand up for themselves and actually do something when they're being done wrong nothing will change. Whether it's an abusive spouse, an obsessive boy/girlfriend, an overbearing boss or coworker, or a creepy weeaboo seiyu.
