So how's everyone doing?
« on: Feb 01, 2012, 03:54:35 PM »
So now I'm back after an 8 year hiatus or so, I'm kinda curious how everyone is these days?

Me, I'm kind of good. Managed to get my MBA and got a job as an IT consultant, which is too boring to talk about but pays shitloads of cash and gets me to see a lot of different companies from the inside. Even spent some in the States on a project a few years ago, though it was just in Missouri.
On top of that I managed to net myself a female of the species strong enough to finally get a hold of me and tune down my kind of chaotic and alcoholdriven lifestyle. Which makes me about 50% more reliable and about 500% less interesting.
But then again, there's a lot of competition for the official town drunk in my city, so I'd never would have made it to the big leagues anyway. So it's probably all for the best.

So how've you all been doing this past decade?

Hi. I don't think we know much of each other, though I have a vague memory that you might have also been on the Allsparks sub-forum of ridiculous happenings, whatever it was called.

Yeah. The years just become a blur, even without hooch.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Glad to hear things are going good for you, Rums.  As for myself, things are okay.  Finished the degree I should've gotten years ago, didn't have a job, finally got a job.  Yes, more or less that.  :)

Well, let's see. I'm 30 and still a perpetual failure. I live in my own apartment, have two associates degrees in programming and web design.... don't have a job in either, still am thinking of going to a 4-year college. I work full time in a warehouse distribution center for the new york times and wall street journal.

and I'm single because all the girls I court are already hooked up with douchebag drunk dutch guys. :V
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

Sounds good, but now I'm curious what degree and what job?

You only got yourself to blame for that. Being a drunk douchebag is easy, and everyone speaks Dutch when they're drunk enough.
Don't knock being single though, if nothing else you at least got a shitload more closet space if you're not shacked up with a demented shoehoarder (aka a woman).

BA in accounting, does that mean you can do my taxes?
And by that I mean make it so I don't have to pay any

I probably could do taxes but I don't even like doing my own.  Anyway, ppl without degrees go around doing taxes just fine.  And I use a free tax-majigger for myself anyway.

I watched my mother get smacked around by a drunk douche when I was younger, I'd rather not become one. Unless it means I get to fight evil and have hoards of fangirls.

In any case I wish it was that easy. I'd rather not go through any more school. Or at least only take the basic necessary classes and nothing else, which would probably be 5-6 classes at most.

Or just forgo going to school entirely. I, like most people, learn by doing. Give me a certain job and have me do it 40 days a week and I guarantee you that within 2-3 months I'll be running the place. But businesses these days expect you to have 2-3 years of experience when you leave the college rather than training you how to do the job, and they wonder why the can't find anyone to fill those positions.

You need to go into nursing. Plenty of hot chicks and job opportunities. You just have to be willing to put up with the nastiness and future uncertainty that accompanies health care.

Dude, I was making a joke.  Come on, 2 associates obviously don't make a 4 year degree.  Way to be an ass about it.  :poo:

No, I would need my master's to pursue that and I'm sick of school and its lies.

The only way it'd be worth it is if someone else was paying for it.  My upper division accounting courses were a joke and most of those profs "taught" the grad courses.  Maybe the bug will bite and I'll go back anyway, but I used to find accounting so much fun and the joy was sucked right out it.

I got a BS (ha) in engineering in '02, an AAS in radiologic technology (x-ray) in '10. This led to moving back to sorta engineering work, but this time in a hospital. Go figure.

I'm just glad to not be still in a bookstore or working for the government again.

So I started playing Dungeons and Dragons with a bunch of programmers. Their profitable careers make me cry at night. Luckily the other portion of the group have things like history degrees, so I get to be in the middle. I'm also at that point again where I'm starting to hate what I do for a living and want to change. I have this sot of crisis about every four years.

Yeah, but if I was actually going to change, I might try writing. Nah fuck that.
