Ha ha, "fool's screen".  I like it.  Not to mention with most movies, there's a simple solution.  Most DVD players let you zoom the damn thing.  Zoom it once and fill the screen.  When you buy widescreen, you please everyone.

Contrary to popular belief, Jesus wasn't born December 25th, he was born on January 7th.
I don't think anyone actually knows the TRUE date of Jesus's birth, record keeping back then kinda sucked. But the rest of that stuff about pegan holidays and stuff is true.
Some may say Jan. 7th (I think Greek Orthodox say the 6th), the Roman Catholics say the 25th.  But both sides have been saying it since the second century, so it's not as recent as many think.  This debate is actually where we get the "twelve days of Christmas" stuff.

If one were to go by Biblical teaching, there wouldn't be any special holy days on the Christian calendar aside from those laid out in scripture (which don't include Christmas or Easter).  But people like their holidays.

Heh, heh, heh, Bueno...  I've been a Christian since 1985.  As for who I am, try visiting my Brand New Hovel for a hint.  Not that you would necessarily know me, but I'm a Spherian from way back.

As for the "X" I think it's supposed to represent a leaning cross.  I guess lower-case "t"-mas doesn't sound good to anyone but Mr. T.
Dude, I'd celebrate that!   Tmas!

"X" is the Greek letter ("chi") that comes first in the Greek spelling of Christ (see attached image for the actual Greek spelling).  It's been used as an abbreviation for the word "Christ" for hundreds of years.

Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I like widescreen for that exact reason.  I could care less about "the full picture" crap for the most part, but at least the format gives me a choice.  If I'm in the kitchen with LOTR running, I want fullscreen so I can see what's going on when I look up, so I use the zoom.  If I'm sitting there intently watching it, to borrow from All Your Base, "widescreen turn on, we get signal".

I was raised Christian, confirmed Lutheran, and still like attending services at Reconciling in Christ Lutheran churches or other denominations with similar philosophies.  I have a very difficult time, however, with most other interpretations of the faith, which strike me as very elitist and bigoted.  My beliefs are a meshing of Christian and Taoist, so I could do Tmas with no problem.  :P

I was raised Irish-Catholic, but severed most ties with the religion in 2000.  I just wish there was a way to un-do a baptism.

On a more important note, my new PS2 memory card is broken because it fell onto my floor.

Fuck em both. Speaking STRICTLY from what knowledge we have from the scriptures they're both wrong. If Jesus WAS born, it was most likely in the Fall.

Of course I don't even celebrate Christmas myself, fuck-a-Christmas. Yule. Now there's a holiday.

Being that He was explicitly mentioned in surviving Roman records, it's not a question of if.  But I read where someone said that shepherds of that time wouldn't have been keeping watch over flocks by night...in the dead of winter.  Good link, there.  It proves beyond doubt that Christmas is the attempted Christianization of a pagan holiday and an indication of the attempted marriage of both systems of thought into a singular one during the 2nd-4th centuries.

Guest?  Qu'est ce? :P

In addition to Josephus, Jesus was mentioned in writings attributed to Tacitus, Hadrian's personal secretary, and a Roman author and administrator named Pliny.  A Roman historian named Thallus (whose book is lost to time) was quoted in another work as having referred to Jesus, as well.

I'll have to look up specific document titles and quotes for your perusal.  But like Prego spaghetti sauce, it's in there.

Legends spread quickly, site one who was actually alive while Jesus was, and isn't referring to him as "Christus".

And do so in PM, since I don't want to drag this off topic.
