[TV, etc.] What are you watching?!
« on: Apr 30, 2010, 02:41:43 PM »
I watch alot of unconventional TV. Let's see what we watch.

I just watched the first two episodes of Gravity on STARS. It's a series about suicide, and I liked it. The characters are interesting, and every episode seems to be revealing what they did/felt to kill themselves and how they're reacting to life after fucking suicide up.

Shows I currently watch regularly:

Fringe
Lost
Heroes (sometimes with heavy regret)
South Park (I constantly forget that this is two words instead of a compound)
V (it is getting better
Community
Parks and Recreation
The Office
30 Rock
Caprica
Family Guy
The Cleveland Show
American Dad (I really only like the fish and the alien, why do I still watch this?)

I just got finished watching through Farscape for the first time (still need the second half of The Peacekeeper Wars). I watched Twin Peaks earlier this year, and I also have X-Files on the backburner (never watched it while it was on).

I can think of few shows that I can watch over and over, but the one at the top of my list is Arrested Development. I really can think of nothing else I would love to watch every year.

The only show I go out of my way to catch is Big Bang Theory, and it's new episodes have been spotty at best lately. So I only watch when I get an update on Facebook telling me the episode will be new. Other then that I just surf a lot.

No, I mean the ones where they show off the finished house.

The only show I go out of my way to catch is Big Bang Theory, and it's new episodes have been spotty at best lately.

I tried sitting through that but no dice.  It reminds me of every other pretentious white-bread geek culture web comic out there.  But yeah, at least it's not another fat man with an inexplicably hot wife.

I'll also catch Ming Tsai's show at times.  He's awesome.

I used to love Top Chef. Watched till the Marcel season. I saw a commercial the other day. That woman that is a judge, white woman with long hair, has gained weight. Like a LOT. She really does seems to take her job as a judge serious huh

I think she's pregnant, she just got married (last season had them cooking for her wedding) so now I think she's knocked up. Either that, or her husband is pissed.

Takes all kinds I guess. I have yet to be able to sit through Lost, or through Hedwig and the Angry Itch, but I know you love them. Course I'd stop watching if Sheldon wasn't on there.

It's hard to lose those post-baby pounds.

Last night's gunfight on Breaking Bad was epic. Great effects and real tension.

Touché on Hedwig but I don't love Lost.  I'm so angry at it for wasting my fucking time that I don't watch it anymore.  In fact, I dare say ABC on the whole just pisses me off.  I can't think of any other locally shown station that comes off as such a fucking uppity thumb-in-your-face know-it-all.  I see the round ABC logo and I want to punch a puppy.  Again, I will applaud Big Bang for daring to be a geek comedy considering the other overused formulas it could've been but I can't really sit down and watch.

No it aint. I lost 25 pounds the first 2 weeks post partum and I only had 5 more pounds to go. This was like a month ago, I probably shred those 5 left already. She has no excuse for her fatness

Well I hope you at least liked Lost at some point. You kept watching it. Why watch a show you hate?

But I really think that Hedwig is to you like Rocky Horror is to me. It's that movie that when you tell people you like it they give you funny looks.

Touché on Hedwig but I don't love Lost.

Well I hope you at least liked Lost at some point. You kept watching it. Why watch a show you hate?

But I really think that Hedwig is to you like Rocky Horror is to me. It's that movie that when you tell people you like it they give you funny looks.

I did at one point but as the story "progressed", it became more and more apparent that big chunks of it were completely useless, time-eating Cell Games-esque filler that I could've gone without seeing and still have been able to keep up with the story.

The show started out with a premise of a select group people on a mysterious island, strongly implying that there was some kooky scientific answer and that everyone had special connections to each other, with a few even getting strange benefits from the island.  Then it goes into spiritual mode with god-like characters and wonky time travel/alternate streams and throwing in character after character (and I'm not talking about incidental characters, I mean ones they actually gave some sort of story to) while tossing others into the background and/or bumping them off with no real meaning or impact.  Then you can actually tell someone in production was all "Oh shit, maybe we shouldn't have killed that one off!  I know we'll make them illusions/someone see ghosts/someone crazy/throw them all in flashbacks/alternate times."  (Or in the case of Michael, "let's just bring him back and kill him off!")  We would sometimes see dead people before and now it's become expected.  What am I watching, fucking Ghost Whisperer?

I also think LOST followed this trend I feel has shown up where shows and movies obsessively concentrate on characters' pasts.  Combined with its propensity for character over-saturation, this was almost torturous.  Like if old school G.I.Joe did a hour-long episode on the past of every freaking Joe.  NOT EVERYONE HAS AN INTERESTING PAST.  SOME THINGS CAN BE TOLD AND NOT SHOWN.  IF IT'S NOT RELEVANT TO THE STORY, I DO NOT NEED TO SEE IT.  I DO NOT GIVE SHIT.  Too many times we were shown pasts to characters we never had to see or ones we did need to know but for unwarranted lengths of time.

Granted, I'll end up watching the last season anyway because I need to know how they're ending this shit, but I'm likely to do so with DVDs I can skip the hell out of.

And I have never seen Rocky Horror.  Been meaning to, but when I would turn it on I would just tune out.

Rocky Horror is one of those movies you either love, hate, or just don't understand what the big deal about it is. Never met anyone that came away from it going "I liked it, but it was just OK."

This morning my room mate was saying that the episode where they revealed what the smoke monster is was the first episode in five years that did not leave him angry at the show. I agreed, and then said, "Why the fuck are we still watching this?"

That had the opposite effect on me.  I thought the smoke monster was cool when I thought it was some sort of trickery.  Like they had the island rigged and the smoke hid what it really was.  But no.  It's an actual...  Smoke.  Monster.  Boo hiss.

House is awesome. I need to start watching the old seasons.

I am watching through Weeds now.

My other room mate wants me to watch the Clone Wars. I do not think I want to. I have not made up my mind.
