I thought he had already quit Oasis...
« on: Aug 29, 2009, 03:27:30 AM »
I guess not.   :D  There has to be a Brokeback Mountain joke here somewhere, there just has to be.

Noel Gallagher "quitting Oasis".

Quote
Noel Gallagher has announced he is quitting rock band Oasis because he can no longer work with his brother Liam.

Noel, the group's lead guitarist, made the statement on the band's website. He said a series of rows with his brother led to the decision.

The guitarist said: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight.

"People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."

More on the website.

Aren't those two twins? It's like saying you can't work with yourself anymore.

He'll be back when his personal project fails and Oasis falters.
I said its hot outside let me go swimming in your eyes;
We been running for awhile. Why don't you lay dow, I'll make you smile.
I could never ask for nothing better than this;
It's just tequila and the beach, it's quite salty when we kiss.

My world is shattered.  How will nomads make it without their precious oases?
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I only liked What's the Story Morning Glory, so this news doesn't affect me.

I haven't paid attention to Oasis in years so it doesn't really effect me either.  I mean, I really thought they had already broken up.

They actually released an album last year called "Dig Out Your Soul" (their 7th) and were already working on their next one. It rose to number 5 in the charts here in the US and number 1 in the UK where is Triple Platinum.

But this isn't the first time Noel has quit Oasis...in fact it's the third by my count. (back during the "What's the Story Morning Glory" tour and again during the "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants" tour. Always seem to happen on tours just like this one) That's why I am not worried as an Oasis fan. I actually think it might turn out for the better. Let him release some solo stuff and in a few years get back together with the WTSMG line up again and get back to their old sound. So I'm not sweating it. But there is no Oasis without Noel. He wrote almost all their songs, including all the songs off their first three albums.

Aren't those two twins? It's like saying you can't work with yourself anymore.

They arn't twins. Noel is the older of the two. There is actually a third brother that has nothing to do with the band.

What's really funny about him quiting is that now only Liam is left from the "What's the Story Morning Glory" fame. Paul Arthurs and Paul McGuigan left after having recorded some stuff for "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants" and then Alan White left after "Heathen Chemistry". So really if anything they should have just kicked Liam out. But some many people seem to think his voice is part of the key to the Oasis sound, but I'm not one of them. Noel could do the job just as good.

No. Just most of it. Noel does backing vocals a lot, but has taken the lead a few times. Most noteably to someone with only passive knowledge of Oasis, in the song "Don't Look Back in Anger." which was a single off "What's the Story Morning Glory" I also remember that when Oasis did MTV's unplugged that Noel sang the entire set cause Liam had a sore throat (which he nursed by chain smoking and heckling his brother from the crowd) and it sounded just fine to me.

I hated the newest Weezer album when the others took the the mic. System of a Down had that too, with the wierd sounding guy. Sometimes, the lead singer has that role for a reason.

Oasis hasn't sounded like Oasis since "Be Here Now" really. I keep buying cause I'm a fan, and I do like some of the stuff. But I've always hoped they would return to the sound of the first three albums.

Then you have those bands, that at least I think, sound better after they lose their lead singer. Genesis is one of those. After Peter Gabriel left and Phil Collins took over the band had a better sound and more success. And yes I like Genesis, and you can fuck off if you don't like that.

I also thought Van Halen sounded better with Sammy Haggar then with David Lee Roth, but I know I am in the minority with that one. Same with AC/DC.

Meh, in the examples you named, I liked both singers.  Maybe it helps that I was younger and not really paying attention and didn't realize certain songs came from the same band but with a different lead singer.

One that annoys me that happened fairly recently is Shiny Toy Guns.  Carah Faye Charnow's more calming melodious voice got replaced with Sisely Treasure's whiny one.  Velvet Revolver kinda annoys me just for the fact that they haven't fricken chosen anyone.  Can't Duff McKagan do vocals or something?  Just hire somebody already.

I think the book is very confusing and doesn't really follow a strong plot.
Get a little closer let it fold
Cut open my sternum and pull
My little ribs around you
