Everything in Iowa is made out of cr0n, didn't you know that?  It's a renewable resource.

Isn't Iowa flooded?
I said its hot outside let me go swimming in your eyes;
We been running for awhile. Why don't you lay dow, I'll make you smile.
I could never ask for nothing better than this;
It's just tequila and the beach, it's quite salty when we kiss.

That's what I thought.  Turns out they made a giant dam out of cr0n and kept the water out.

No, we have too many levees and they all broke.  But yea, half of Iowa is pretty much underwater and smells bad.  It sucks because I have a lot of friends who were in the flood areas but I think they're all okay.

Another sucky thing: Apparently, everyone in Iowa thought that flood insurance was a waste of money even though they live along a river.  I'm just surprised that my town didn't get flooded when Mississippi is RIGHT THERE!

People are idiots. They never take geography and geology into account when buying a home. Sure hardwood floors are nice, but what is it built on? They deserve it.

I think anyone that builds a home in a floodplain, or at the base of a Volcano gives up all rights to bitch when it gets destroyed.

The flood people should totally build their houses on stilts like Amazonian villages.  That would rule.  And everybody just gets in their boat and paddles to work when it floods and STFU.

The volcano people though...  That's tricky.  The view is great.  I can see how someone would be hesitant to give what's more or less an island paradise discounting those few hellish days every so often that the wrath of god goops molten earth on them.  They should have escape plans and keep few possessions.  And a camcorder so we can watch their homes burn down on "Inside Edition".

It's hard to find a good place to live in the US with floods, tornados, hurricanes, fires, earthquakes, children, volcanoes, heat waves, and crazy rednecks ruining everything.

I agree with Nuri with the Amazonian houses.  The houses in Iowa that are like 5 feet from the river are built on platforms and such.  Duh, it makes perfect sense.  Though I think we should go Jetsons and just build our houses into the stratosphere.

THose amazonian villages are AWESOME.

If they are in a volcano area, then they could just pile looooots of stones together and build their homes on top of them. Also work for when they are infested with graboids

It won't matter how many stones you pile up...if a river of lava is going by your house it's going to catch fire just from the radiant heat.

I expected Chelsey's house to be floating down the river considering her state's a giant lake now. She seems to have lucked out on that one. Stick to the high ground so you can avoid floods and pretend everyone living below you are your loyal vassals.

The weather went from uber-hot to 60 degrees. Last night I delivered in a rather agressive storm for a little while. The rain was coming down very hard, streets were flooding or turning into rivers with a few inches of water, and pea-sized hail came down for several minutes.
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

Yeah...I think it would depend on how dense the rock was, but since Lava is just melted rock it's self a lot of stone would melt under it's heat.

Send that water this way.  It's so hot and dry that fireworks with fins/wings, missiles, and bottle rockets will be illegal this fourth of July.

Sadly...it wouldn't matter if it was dry or wet in Iowa they won't let them have Fireworks.

I always found it odd that they didn't trust them with Fireworks, but there are no helmet laws.

Ha, that's right, your state's one of those firework-happy ones.  Well, at least those Iowans don't have to worry about a bottle rocket skewering them in the ear.

We can have fireworks - bottle rockets, black cats and SNAKES!

But that's okay because for me, Wisconsin is a hop, skip and a jump away and there's a small business just inside of WI that sells AWESOME fireworks.  The man makes so much money, he can pay off the police.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the situation is like on the Minnesota border, but visitors from Iowa and Illinois are greeted with a plethora of fireworks stores just as they cross over.

The situation I saw on the Minnesota border were Iowa cops waiting to catch people speeding as they crossed the state line since the speed limit is 10 miles slower in Iowa then it is in Minnesota. Or that was how it was back in the 90s. I haven’t been since then.

Same thing here. Everything that launches in the sky is illegal in Michigan, but every major highway going out of the state has 1, 2, even 3 or 4 fireworks shops on the other side of the border.

I think my town is a grace area since it's so close to WI and IL, so nobody really cares.  "Oh, you got big fireworks?  You be careful with those.  Point them away from your face."

It's also illegal to go to Illinois (also very close to my town) and buy cigarettes to "smuggle" them back to Iowa because they're like a dollar cheaper in Illinois.  I think the fine is something to the tune of $40 a pack you get caught with.

Thank God I don't smoke cigarettes, but I'm sick of hearing people bitch about smoking bans like it's discrimination.  If you don't get a job because you're black, that's discrimination.  Making somebody stand outside to smoke a cigarette is NOT.  You choose to smoke so either quit or deal with it.  Why don't you try marching to the capital?  Oh wait, you'll probably run out of breath.
