I don't know why people are obsessed with Haruhi the character. The series is crazy and pretty interesting, but the title character is willing to manipulate whoever she chooses to get her way, not matter how the other person feels. Poor Mikuru. 
I don't like Haruhi. I think she's too immature. And not attractive in any way.


What should I put on it next? I'm thinking of doing the entire new Battlestar series, all the seasons, no matter how long it would take to watch them.

Is this normal for you other netflix subscribers? I returned Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya disk 1 and 2, and instead of getting 3 and 4, I got the next series on my queue. Checked my queue and it said there was a "short wait" on disks 3 and 4.

That means is that all copies are currently rented out but that some are expected back soon.  It's aggravating, but it's the way of things. 

You're not wrong about Haruhi's personality, but her energy is what fuels the show and the situations the others find themselves in, and that's what makes her and the show popular.  While I don't quite get the whole phenomenon surrounding it, I found it to be a very good show in all respects, aside from the goofy episode ordering that all the SOS nerds got pissy about with its North American release.

Good news is that they're coming with a season two sometime in the future.

I can understand the frustration with the episode ordering a little bit. Although with the episodes mixed up it gets confusing, at least it had a climatic ending (because the part where Haruhi almost destroys the universe is at the end not in the middle). With the episodes in order, it becomes anti-climatic. The anime ends with stuff left open (in other words the message give is "read the damn manga to find out more you knuckleheads"). There is an indication that she's no longer trying to subconsciously change the world because she's finding things to make her happy and she's falling for Kyon (the last episode indicates they're walking to her house). In other words, to make God happy, find her a boyfriend/fucktoy???

But if there's another season that's all moot.

I rather liked the first half better than the second half... more things were revealed and it was just plain wierd... giant ectoplasm monsters and alien constructs trying to kill students. The second half was just everyone trying to keep Haruhi happy. It almost makes a stab at monothestic religion in general, where you have to please your diety and keep him/her happy or he/she'll destroy the universe.


As for the DVDs themselves, I was happy they had so much additional content. The last DVD has two disks, one with the episodes in proper order, and one with the last episodes in broadcast order. The last DVD also had the full Hare Hare dance and also a preview of Lucky Star. :3




Next on my list is the rest of Paniponi Dash, Golden Boy, Speed Grapher, Negima!?, and Lucky Star.

Ok this shit's gotten lame.

I finish with Suzumiya, and expect to get the last two disks of Paniponi. Instead I get the next disk of Paniponi, and then they skip over Golden Boy in my queue, and send the first disk of Speed Grapher.

So they don't send the last disk in my current series and then skip over the next series to go to the series after that!

The skip of Golden boy might be explained due to the fact that the first disk in the two disk series is not in my queue, but in my "Saved DVDs" list, whatever that means. Availability is "unknown".

First off, Netflix, please figure out how to send your fucking disks in the right order!

Second off, and I think this is related to my problem - for all the people renting shit from netflix, just because there's no late fees doesn't mean you can keep the fucking disks a month or two!

Um, isn't it possible that they didn't have the disc when it was time to send it, so they just sent the next one in your queue? Plus, if you're so adamant about what time you watch the series, wouldn't it be much easier and more economical just to download the damn things?

Netflix gets shitty every now and then.  I got stuff from the bottom of my queue this last time instead of stuff that was available close to the top (I keep yet to be released stuff at the top).  It's happened before...not too regularly, but enough to piss me off.

It's a fact of life when you use Netflix.  Otherwise all you can do is delete some stuff off your list and just leave what you really want on there.

They aren't being cryptic with you.  It's saved in your queue.  They don't have it and don't know when they'll get it.  When availability is known or Netflix reacquires it, it's bumped automatically into your active queue at the bottom and when it reaches the top, they'll send it to you.  When it's part of a series, it probably means the copies they had were lost/stolen/damaged and they didn't bother buying any more.

When that happens, your disc will have "Long Wait" or "Very Long Wait" next to it.  The Saved portion of your queue has nothing to do with someone keeping a disc unless they decide steal it and report it lost.  If they're just keeping it to watch over and over again with intent to eventually return it, it'll be in your regular queue.

I must be unlucky, or netflix hates me.

I sent in two dvds last week, and only got one this week. According to my netflix account they are sending the second one and it's supposed to arrive today, and it will be the FINAL dvd of Paniponi Dash. I'm still wondering why it took them a week to send my second dvd....

especially considering yesterday at 5:00pm I dropped the only DVD I had into the mail box, and my account says they received it (in less than a day?! ) and are shipping the next dvd, which happens to be the first disk of my NEXT series in my queue, not the one I'm in the middle of.

So, they get my disk I put in the mail yesterday today, and they are shipping it today, yet my second disk in my two disk account takes over a week to ship to me?

And I finally get the last dvd in 'anime series 1' while I'm in the middle of 'anime series 2', and instead of sending the rest of the disks of 'anime series 2', they're sending the first disk of 'anime series 3'.

Confusing, and also very annoying.

Netflix has been sucking lately...the last two I got, Shoot 'Em Up and Charlie Wilson's War, were both near the bottom.  The last few I've been getting have been.  And why the hell haven't they got the corrected discs for He-man, AMG, and My Otome yet?  They're still "Very Long Wait"...AMG and MyO have been on or near the top of my list for months.

Maybe it's screwing up because of all the anime.  Merla's had Original Dirty Pair Vol 1 in her queue forever under "Long Wait".  A few days ago, she told me it got shot down into the Saved list.  Looks like that puppy ain't coming back.

Discs are received at a center near or at your city, but discs can get shipped out at different shipping centers far off from Detroit, D.  That's why they can receive one disc in your queue ahead of another, yet you get the disc replacing the second disc first.  That's happened to us a lot of times.  Or they could just have very few copies of it.

The last series I watched was a wuxia series called "The Handsome Siblings".  I swear, I think Netflix only owned two or three copies of it because I would get one disc a week.  And I went a whole week without getting one at all.  They literally took forever to get to me.  And when I was on "Laughing In The Wind" before that, I got a disc Saturday, sent it back on a Monday, and got the next one in the series on the Tuesday or Wednesday of the next week.

And I'm w/ Squirrel on Negima.  What a shitty show.  I know your pedo ass will love it.  I thought it was complete shit myself.  I tuned out after several eps and happened to catch the very last ep, where it was obvious some good shit was happening.

I last saw Negima a couple years ago and watched only half of it before becoming kinda bored and having my attention seized by better series, like Chobits. The reason I'm watching it now is to finish up the series as I did hear it picked up near the end.

If I'm pedo for watching Negima I might as well forgo watching anime period, since most series out there feature high school students as main characters and fanservice material. (who's worse, the anime fan who watches, or the freakish japanese guys who make teenage anime characters into sex symbols in the first place?) My next series on my list just happens to be My-HiME, which I also saw only a little bit of it several years ago and want to finish it now. You could call me pedo for renting that as well. The Negima anime has at least one thing going for it... it has little fanservice at all. The anime is virtually clean. Compare that to the Negima manga by Ken Akamatsu which I browsed through at a bookstore once... the manga has tons of gratuitous fanservice. PaniPoni, even though being a comedy like Azumanga Daioh, was loaded with fanservice in the most annoying and inappropriate locations. I'm actually annoyed by most excessive and obvious fanservice in anime because not only is it usually of teens, but they usually use it to cover up bland characters and shitty plot. Kinda like how they use boobs and violence in Hollywood to patch up a shitty movie.


But before My-HiME, I kept on seeing the ad for this Japanese movie on all my DVDs so I decided to rent it.

I have no idea why every single Japanese trailer I ever see has to start all dark and action packed, and then end with a dramatic, sad song with a woman singing. I'm serious, almost every long Japanese trailer fits that very format (I'm talking about the original trailers here, not the ones made in the US for Japanese shows).

After watching several Funi anime one after the other with both dubs and subtitles on, I have to say I really hate this company's dubbing. In some cases they even changed the dub from the sub even if there was no lip movement to match, or the person's face was off camera.

Negima really started to approve by the last several episodes, but it felt like it could have gone further. I have a feeling it was following the manga as usual so nothing was settled conclusively because of that. Also, the death of the one character I saw coming for a while... you could tell something was wrong two episodes before it happens and the character was all acting like a cancer patient the whole episode before she bit it.

I hear there's an alternate universe Negima OVA out there that's a lot better and more action-packed, but I don't think it's licensed in the US.

Now onto HiME and Natsuki's pure awesomeness.
