Take the Reavers from Firefly/Serenity, add a little Resident Evil and Blade, and you have I Am Legend, which me and my friend went and saw last night.

The idea is that humans tried to make a genetically altered virus to cure cancer, and it became a plague that kills most people, and turns the rest into violent, hyper-aggressive, light sensitive, flesh eating zombie/vampire things.

Will Smith plays a guy who thinks he's the last living uninfected human on earth, having a natural immunity to the virus. By day he hunts deer, gathers supplies, looks for other survivors, and works on a cure for the virus. By night he locks himself in a fortress so the infected can't find him.

The movie does a pretty good job of showing the effects of isolation on a human... Will talks to maniquins as if they're living people and has lengthly conversations with his dog. Eventually he starts going crazy. The only negative was that the monsters were all CG and they didn't look entirely real. If they can make Gollum look solid, why do they often fuck up in other movies?

It had it's slow, quiet moments, it's moments of Will's character going fruity, it had scary horror moments, and it had moments with Will running around with machine guns killing the zombie people. It was a good movie.

It wasn't faithful to the book though... if you want faithful, stick with the original movie, The Last Man On Earth.

Yeah. I don't want to see a movie where a pet dies. Well the non-annoying ones anyway. A chihuahua smashing into the pavement is something I take on a case-by-case basis.

There are people that don't even read the potter books that still see the movies. This book isn't nearly as popular as them so the amount of people who don't want to be spoiled should be pretty high for this one. I already know about the main premise so maybe I'm spoiled. The dog doesn't really die you simpering pansies its just a story! I would only need to be spoiled if an actual dog was actually going to lose its life on screen.

Also, I won't be returning to this thread until after I've seen this movie (which could be months from now) so don't reply to this post!

And since I'm never coming back I can safely tell you all to suck it!

It doesn't matter if it's not necessarily popular and people haven't read it. There's still a book of the same name where the guy dies at the end. The book was written in 1954. That means loads of people already know the ending. That means all you have to do is Wikipedia the movie and you could still find something about the book and the book's ending. In fact, if you Google "I am Legend", the book entry is #4 (and the ending is there). He doesn't die the same way, but it's there that Neville dies.

Anyone going into Harry Potter movies have no business getting hissy when the book's been out for years. Besides, what do you care about spoilage? You had no problems shouting the ending out to a book the night it was released. Nevermind the whole, "what are you doing in an I Am Legend thread when you were so set at not being spoiled" thing.

After watching it I've decided I look the book version better even though I haven't read it. I like that he was a "legend" among the non insane vampires. This I'm a "legend" because I "lol made the cure" thing is crap in comparison. I kept waiting for the cool vampires to show up and they never did :/

And I agree with the rest of what you said. The cure thing was stupid.

As for ppl not reading the book, Faye, they wouldn't have to. The point I was making was that book and its ending have been out for years. Someone's grandparents could inadvertently spoil it.

Well, of course the dog doesn't really die. I go to movies for suspension of belief and entertainment. I don't consider the death of an animal, especially elevated to the companionship level the dog was in that story, to be "entertainment". You sound like my ex-husband who got pissed off because I couldn't watch the torment scenes in "Elephant Man" and eat dinner at the same time.

Actually, my favorite movies are Picnic at Hanging Rock, Dangerous Liaisons, and Battle of the Bulge. Of the three, BOTB probably has the most happy bunnies and angel farts. Mock away.

I concur. I know and don't care if it's pretend. It's like Adam Sandler movies, weddings, and MTV after 1995: I don't want to see it and seeing it doesn't entertain me.

Honorable mention: Das Boot, almost for soundtrack alone. Saw it again last night.

"Greatest movie" is an abstract concept. That accolade is frequently given to Gone With The Wind; usually by people who aren't black. I doubt anyone with an unsolved child abduction in the family would enjoy Picnic at Hanging Rock. After being the only survivor of night raids twice in the Phillipines and getting bronze stars for pulling tentmates from the scene (some on fire), my dad didn't care to watch WWII movies.

If I want to see a suffering animal, all I have to do is go to one of the rescue groups I work with. If I want to see one die, all I have to do is hang around for a few days until one that didn't match the carpet or had the misfortune to belong to some worthless shits who had a baby and decided that the loving faithful pet was expendable doesn't get adopted or fostered and has to be put down. I don't need to pay ten bucks to see it on film.
