Firstly, school's been kicking my ass. I have two upper level courses that are really tough. I had nothing but tests, quizzes, and projects this week. When I do have free time, I write or watch DVDs-- mainly stuff from Netflix. Merla has "Bravestarr" in her queue so we've been watching that. I never really saw "Bravestarr" as a kid and seeing it now, I think it aged nicely. The lessons at the end are hilarious, with things like how smoking will kill you. I think I just like the fact a character can smoke constantly on screen and how another character mentioned he "had killed a man". It reminds me that despite being total fluff, "Bravestarr" has far more balls than many cartoons today. The commentary on one episode was actually decent, and goes along with "Pet Shop of Horrors" and "Giant Robo" as listenable materal.
In my own queue, I've been getting my dose of wuxia with "Laughing in the Wind", based on Louis Cha's "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer". It's my first real dose of wuxia material that is a nicely-sized series and not a single film. Kind of like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" where they practically fly and jump on trees and shit. Really awesome. The subtitles are pretty fricken shitty though. Like where the nun hoped a dead girl would be a man in her "nest" life and mangled grammar and shit like that. I've seen better translated fansubs. But the series itself is beautiful. Each disc I get is five hours long and I pretty much watch it in one sitting.
I've been reading, too. I finished the book of "Farewell to my Concubine". The movie was kind of a downer as it is (got a library copy and rewatched it before I read), but the depressing book shows you how glamourized the film version really was. I have a whole list of other books I want to get to, wuxia-related and not, so I may be reading even more.
Also, I've bought some music, so I've been sorting though it trying to get it in my library how I want it. iTunes is so shitty. It makes WMP look like a diamond tiara. I suppose it's great if you have an iPod and no interest in organizing your music on your own terms, but neither one of those is me. It's convenient for me to buy certain artists using iTunes, so I deal with it in order to get stuff from the people I want. I picked up the newest Animal Alpha CD "You Pay For The Whole Seat But You'll Only Need The Edge", "Flicker" by Ayria, some Velvet Revolver (I'm not touching any band's actual CDs when they do that copy-protect BS) and a few other things. And I bought a couple of Lisa Lisa CDs, too. (Old school!)
And I dyed my red hair blue-black and cut it. For anyone thinking "I thought her hair was black", it's naturally dark brown. There is a difference. :b I get bored with my hair.
Oh yeah, and I made the switch to rye and whole wheat bread. Not a big deal, but just felt like adding unnecessarily to this post.
Anyway, just mentioning what I've been up to and stuff because I don't know if I'll be around. I very well could be, but just FYI in case I pull a Houdini on you guys. I'm probably off watching wuxia while eating a sandwich with rye bread and doing fake peoples' taxes.
