This enrages me.

I'll post the Powet link first since that's where I heard about it:

Warner Bros Bans Female Leads, Boycott Ensues

Here's an update on the story:

Is this the 1920s?
I said its hot outside let me go swimming in your eyes;
We been running for awhile. Why don't you lay dow, I'll make you smile.
I could never ask for nothing better than this;
It's just tequila and the beach, it's quite salty when we kiss.

I don't think there are any chicks that can open an action movie based on their star powet right now.  Kill Bill was good but that wasn't because of what's her face (I can't even recall her name right now) it was because it was a tarantino movie.  Does a majority of the public say "Oh I gotta catch that new nicole kidman action flick!" No.

Uma Thurman is beatrix kiddo right?  I wouldn't throw out all movie genres with female leads and I hope that's not what he meant when he said that (there has to be chicks in chick flicks).  He probably meant female action scripts.  I know I could do without ultra violet.  Aeon Flux sucked. Can anyone think of any female action lead movies that didn't suck besides kill bill?  Maybe you didn't even like Kill Bill.

I saw Ultra Violet, too.  WTF was that?  Seriously.  A writer shouldn't even have been credited for that.  As for action with a female lead, what about Aliens?  Not necessarily action in the traditional sense but people die.

And no, there are no action chicks with real star powet right now that could open their own film.  But the studios and such need to help that along by providing females decent action roles that can build up that sort of cred, and nobody really offers that sort of thing.  Ultra Violet was nothing but pretty colors, costumes, and polish with no one bringing a fucking good story.  Mila does more acting in the Feria hair color commercials.  And while I hear everywhere how a woman can't carry a film or how no one wants to see an action film with a chick, I don't think that's the point at all.  Putting aside my bone of contention with the sorts of scripts offered, WTF kind of logic is boycotting all scripts with a woman in the lead role?  What about being pickier about what you make and fund and choosing high-quality scripts, period (no pun intended).  Whether the lead is a man or a woman or whatever race or whatever should have nothing to do with anything.  The bonanza scripts are what should get made.  What morons greenlit the "the Brave One"?  Boycott those mofos.  For all they know, there's a diamond of a script with a female lead, and they're gonna pass on it or worse, "man it up" with a boyfriend or daddy-figure that pops in to save the day.  And with at least one major studio (though there are surely more) refusing to so much as look at scripts with leading females, why would anyone be motivated to go out and write a good one?  It's all bs.

Yeah aliens was great but that movie also had well...aliens.  Personally I want monsters in my action flicks or crazy kung fu shit no matter what sex the lead role is.

And they never will.  The people that make these decisions aren't driven to nurture an initiative like that.  The only way this trend will turn around is if someone makes a successful one.  Then everyone will band wagon onto that.  But women in general aren't considered to be "openers" for any genre.  Opener meaning someone with enough draw to make a movie #1 at the box offices.  There's only been 1 chick in recent times and that was the one he mentioned, Julia Roberts...Who fucked George Clooney when she did Ocean's 11 part 1 even though she was engaged to some other guy who I saw in the tabloids recently that he left her...probably found out about George takin the ole hammer to her.  I know this because my cousin works with his acupuncturist.

A friend of a friend of a friend?

A bigger question though... who cares? They will always make shitty movies.

As negative as I generally am, I prefer to not adopt defeatist thoughts like that one.
