(not really though, SARS has flu-like symptoms)

Almost 4 weeks ago, I started getting cold-like symptoms. I just thought it was a regular cold, and everyone else seemed to be getting it, so I thought the cold was spreading around. Runny nose, stuffed nose, cough.

Of course the best cure is chicken soup and bedrest, and I almost coughed up the soup and due to work/school bedrest was not available. But after a week and a half the symptoms seemed to be going away.

The runny nose is gone. But after two weeks went by and I'm still coughing, I start worrying. The coughing is dry cough and sporadic. I can be fine and not cough at all for an entire day, and then suddenly the next day, I'll start coughing so hard I almost vomit. And then it will go away and I'll be fine again. But it's a pain in the ass when I cough and I'm trying to drive for work.

I signed up for a low income health insurance plan over 4 weeks ago when I was feeling fine. I haven't heard shit from the company and I'm about to bust into their offices and go apeshit on the place and overturn chairs and fling my poo. Regular insurance for me apparently runs $150 a month. The school has student insurance which is $400 a semester or $1000 a year.

I haven't started working out thanks to this. Not only do I want to get a physical first, but if I start working out and start coughing uncontrollably, what's the point?

I bet I have some kind of new mutant virus that will spread to all the planet and cause all humans to be destroyed.

...see, right now I'm coughing very weakly for no reason. Yet I was out in the rain an hour ago and felt fine! Teh fuck?

Ah fuck SARS, I just looked it up and I may have Asthma! I thought that was something people were born with, not something that appeared out of nowhere. Other causes may be sinus infection or postnasal drip, bronchitis, acid reflux (heartburn), fungus or mold, tuberculosis, interstitial lung diseases, or even cancer. Yay.

And now, out of nowhere, I'm having to clear my throat every minute or two and I'm coughing weakly. So it's not an enviromental cause which probably rules out asthma.

Allergies? Or a really persistent cold? I've had my runny nose and cough for a while. And I've been feeling feverish. Usually some medicine makes it work out okay. Chill.

Oh yea, and that does bug me though. Any one of us could expire and none of the rest of us would have any clue that the person had died. We could also go into a coma, be stuck in the hospital for months, get stranded on some remote island with wierd bunkers and giant shadow creatures (or a volleyball named Wilson), or get stuck in an African Village for a while.

That's not quite as odd as people tend to think it is. I suspect the vast majority of the human workforce is prone ot taking much more time to convalecse than is truly needed, as people generally "snap back" from short illnesses with ease.
