Well, then, there you go.

I don't think I finished Sekirei, come to think of it...it peaked at the end of the first season, but it was downhill from there. Queen's Blade got better as it went, but sometimes it was too ecchi for even me.

Tu Love-Ru season 2 (and the start of the third, so far) was probably the most fan-service I've ever seen in any show (no plot but funny), though High School DxD was darn close (a little more story, less funny). I have two more eps to go with Dakara Boku wa H ga Dekinai, which is full of service but actually has a pretty hard twist in the story a few eps before the end that has ground the pacing to a halt but has kept me interested in how it pans out.

I just got through watching Bodacious Space Pirates (Moretsu Pirates) last night.

On a future world where space travel is common, a high school girl named Marika Kato discovers her father has died. She also learns that he was a space pirate, and that she must take over his ship and crew. Her mother has groomed her all her life for this, and combined with her natural talent and hands-on experience through her school's yacht club, she actually gives it a shot. It turns out she's very good at it, which is good because they have to engage in privateering at regular times to retain their official letter of marque. But she also wants to graduate from high school, so she has to juggle two sets of responsibilities as best she can: one set as a civilian student; the other as a pirate captain.

While the weird anime fixation on high schoolers doing unbelievable stuff continues here, it manages to make it fun and engaging. It starts with likeable characters, from the lead to her crew to her classmates (and, later, crewmates). Even though the piracy is sanctioned and largely benevolently applied (they often raid cruise ships who request them to do so as a show for their guests), there are regularly developing dangers for Marika to overcome on the job while she gets a handle on things...all while maintaining her grades, club activities, and part-time job on the ground.

The visuals are animated nicely for a television series, with nice ship design and character art. Although most of the girls sort of blur together to start with, they begin to be used more towards the end of the run, so it's not a problem. If you're wondering, there's not a lot of service here, which is appropriate for the majority of ages depicted, so don't look to this show for that.

I didn't expect to care for this series too much, but I really enjoyed it and look forward to it continuing. They should be making a movie to expand on the conclusion, and I hope it proves successful enough that they shoot for a second season.

TL;DR version: Bodacious Space Pirates is a whole lot of fun. Highly recommended.

The third Evangelion movie premiered today. I just read some of the spoilers. Hideaki Anno has apparently gone bat-crap crazy! Again!

Now the wait for the blu-ray (and inevitable fan-sub) is on, and then it'll be sometime in 2014 before an English version floats around. The fourth film was supposed to have been done simultaneously for release come spring, so hopefully we won't have to wait so long for the conclusion.

After the wholesale changes made in the second movie, I can't wait to see how they gloriously mangle the last two! The manga is magnificently going awol with the original progression of the series, so hopefully it and the Rebuild movies will conclude concurrently.

I have to say I'm interested.  Especially since, going by art, the lead actually looks nice and cute not like the bitchy tsundere, emotionless robot, or vapid weirdo that I've come to expect as of late.

That's was the first good thing about this show. Marika is a good character. In fact there's a distinct lack of what you described in the series. There is what I guess you could categorize as a tsun in Chiaki, but she's more serious than an actual bitch.

I just read a solicit for the first Bluray collection. Two points:

First, two releases? Seriously? It's just 26 episodes. I'm not paying $50 for 13 eps (and I presume $50 for the remainder) of a show after having just paid $30 for the first half (33 episodes!) of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I already have it downloaded in high definition...all I'd be getting is the dub, and contrary to what some think I can quite happily live without that. I like BSP, and I want to support it, but no. Release the whole thing for fifty or even sixty bucks, and I'd bite. I don't buy anime piecemeal anymore...FMA:B was the exception.

Second: the promotional blurb used for the DVD release. The first two paragraphs aren't bad, despite a bit of exaggeration regarding a minor plot point. But the last line?
Quote
Get ready for intergalactic buccaneering unlike any you've ever seen before as the spaceways get broad-sided by cutting lasses, curvy knaves and the sexiest pirate's chest ever in Bodacious Space Pirates Collection 1!
"Sexiest pirate's chest ever"? Marika is a 15 year old girl! That's funny coming from me, who's motto on anime is the trashier the better, but seriously. This is pure otaku-flavored skeev that is a disservice both to casual browsers who might be put off by such objectification and to actual pervs whose interest would lead only to disappointment.

I don't know exactly why this riled me up so much. I guess that it's because the last word I'd ever use to describe this show is "sexy". But sex sells, right?

They've got to get the Dougs on board somehow.  But yeah, I don't see the point in not just releasing the entire series.  Guess this goes on my wishlist with FMA:B and Princess Jellyfish while I wait for the next big sale.

Somewhat related, FMA:B has still not added more eps on Netflix in over a year.  I wonder if whatever deal was in place was never renewed because stuff (meaning anime in general and not just Funi stuff) is just expiring left and right without new shit taking its place.  Kinda a bummer.

Also Moon Phase.  Merla's been watching it and I thought about trying it.  But then I heard Monica Rial's screech through her wall.  Ugh.  One of the two voices I can barely stand anymore.  I swear, if you dubbed a show starring Monica Rial's whiny screech and Greg Ayres's scratchy bitch-squeal, it would be form of torture.

I don't like Hulu.  It's not nice to me.  It always steals my juicebox.

No idea. Given how popular the trashy stuff is these days, I don't know why they would.

Even though I haven't collected anime recently (Panty and Stocking was an exception), I do appreciate that companies aren't releasing 3-episode discs for $25-$30 anymore. Seasons or even half-seasons is definitely the way to go.

By the way, did you guys hear they're doing a North American P&S Blu-Ray set? Shock! Glad I never opened my DVD box, now I can just resell it.

Oh, and has anyone ever watched Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere? I know it looks like a total titty show, but there's something about the character designs that appeals to me. It reminds me of something that would have come out during the early '00s, which preys on my nostalgia.

Remember the 2-episode sub- or dub-only VHS releases? I still have most of Evangelion on tape. Holy shit, we've come a long way for me to be bitching about not getting a whole season set vs. half. It's almost enough to make me feel like a real butthole about it, but not quite.

I figured there would be a BR version offered for P&S soon enough. The DVD set was allegedly a release meant to gauge interest, which is BS to me as I'm not interested in DVD format if I can avoid it. I figured I'd have to mux the audio with the 720p versions I already had, but that was far more effort than it's worth just to hear the Funimation Regulars screeching high-speed expletives in my first language for thirteen episodes with high-def visuals.

I haven't seen Horizon, but I may download it and chell it out. Apparently the lead is a groper, so it sounds like one of those type shows...in other words, probably right up my alley, sad to say. There's also a second season of this that's already done airing, as well.
*EDIT, 11/24@12:48AMCDT* downloading the first season now. Will let you know what I think of the first couple episodes hopefully by this time tomorrow night.
*EDIT, 11/24@9:56PMCDT* After watching the first two and a half episodes, I'm not impressed. The world they're setting up is pretty convoluted at the start, with a bunch of kids fighting for no real reason. Half the chicks have blatantly huge tits wearing clothes to accentuate them, and there's the one guy inexplicably the head of the students wanting to grope his teacher and classmates to give him confidence to confess to a robot. It might come together later, but right now it's a hot mess.

I remember reading similar reviews saying the premise was a complete clusterfuck, that's why I ended up ignoring it. But when it popped on Amazon the other day, I was reminded of my initial interest.

Around the fourth or fifth ep, the show apparently went through a sea change. So I'll have to watch a bit more to find out what difference it made. Seems like they're still trying to put the whole group together at this point, so...I'll see soon enough.

Well, it is Evangelion, after all. And Anno is still crazy. The reason the pilots don't look any older is because they aren't: according to 3.0, exposure to LCL made them stop aging.

If we apply this to the ending of the original Eva series Shinji and Asuka will remain alive unaging on a desolate unpopulated Earth forever.

... assuming neither of them kills the other.

You mean the End of Eva movie. The series ended with everybody being shiny happy complemented people. The movies ever with the refusal of instrumentality.

Basically they were the new Adam and Eve...which probably explains Asuka's last line in the movie. But if the "logic"hold, then you're right. It'd be a living hell for them.

There aren't a lot of quality reviews of this thing, but this one was the last one I read.

I don't know what to think of it until I actually see it. And if what I heard a few months ago pans out, the fourth movie should trail this one pretty closely and not take a whole year to come out. I think I heard they were shooting for a Spring '13 release, as the two movies were made concurrently.

Not at all....just that she's disgusted at the whole situation. There were no other people there--at least, not yet, based on Yui's line about them returning if they wanted to--which is why I mentioned the Adam and Eve thing.

The idea about her having morning sickness has been advanced before and is based on the mistranslation of the last line ("I feel sick" instead of "disgusting"). I find that absolutely ridiculous.

After watching the first two and a half episodes, I'm not impressed.

I finished the first season. I'm currently downloading bluray rips of the first half of the second, if that tells you anything. The show changes gears halfway through that first season and becomes somewhat interesting with more explanation of what they're doing and why (sort of). It was enough to keep me interested.

I was also surprised at the distinct lack of nudity in this show, since that's a big thing these days with ecchi programs. With the generous endowments the girls exhibit, I figured there'd be a lot of that. The closest they got was with the main character's sister, whose fighting powet is derived from some sort of Japanese burlesque dancing (which was pretty funny). Despite the cheesecake, though, she was still covered up.

While pretty gratuitous in the female character designs, the show avoided the recent proclivity to flash bare boobs all over the place. This isn't to say there aren't a lot of panty shots, but still...it's worth mentioning.

Apparently, the theme of this show is about do-overs. Humanity has left the earth, but couldn't travel to another world and had to come back for reasons they are not aware of. Thinking that it has something to do with a mistake made in the past, they order their society by a document called the Testament that contains the history of the world (given that they fight the Pope in the first season, I'll assume it's a biblical allusion). There is a union that oversees this that for whatever reason opposes the protagonists' region, which was based the only habitable area left on Earth's surface (naturally, it's Japan).

The series is about them overcoming this, tying into the personal story of Toori and Horizon, who died some time prior but was resurrected in the form of an artificial being whose emotions were somehow stolen and made into weapons. As you might imagine, they lost me there, but anyway. At least two major dialogues occur in the course of the season, which is pretty intriguing until you realize it's all a bunch of frivolous bullshit meant to provide some context to the cockamamie storyline. But once past that, I still wanted to see how it panned out. Pissed me off to see that the end of the first season was just a segue to the second, but anyway.

I'm watching the X-Men Anime and Angel Beats, neither being half as awful as I was expecting them to be.

I'm watching the X-Men Anime
Wait is that the one that used to be shown in Fox Kids, like 15 years ago? I used to watch the shit out of that show, had a huge crush on Gambit and all. Surprisingly thats where my love for all things Xmen finished, dont know why. The only thing I did do was buy a couple of Xmen comics in Buenos Aires but thats it. Some time ago I tried to read one of the characters bios and it was like a clusterfuck of dimensions, time tunnels and editions
