I like owning a house. It was one of my major life goals. However, sometimes that means staying home some weekends to do the yard, taxes every year, paying out of pocket for repairs & improvements, which is what we've been spending every spare minute on for about 2 months; either doing shit or supervising it, but we have the new roof, upgraded electricity, cedar fence & multi-level deck we've been saving for, and there's only about 3-4 more projects to go. We do this for US, not to impress anyone else. We don't go around whining about our sore muscles and how haaaarrdd and expensive it is to own a house because we had a CHOICE - buy or rent. We're not rich enough to hire other people to do everything. Not too different from having a successful career OR kids - that, too, is a choice. Both require work. Both do NOT merit salaries anymore than I should be paid as a contractor from some mystery source because I hired the fence guys, roofer & electrician.
