In The Price of Motherhood, author Ann Crittenden comments on the professional hits that stay-at-home parents take. According to her, mothers pay too large a lifetime price in lost income and status beacause of the time and energy they devote to their children. "Raising children may be the most important job in the world," she wrote, "but you can't put it on a resume."

I don't know about you, but if I feel I'm doing the "most important job" in the world, I'm not gonna whine about how I've lost income and status.  Raising another human being is supposed to be your reward.  You can't have everything.  Sacrifices have to be made.

Stay-at-home mothers wear many hats. They're the family CEO, the day care provider, accountant, chauffeur, counselor, chef, nurse, laundress, entertainer, personal stylist, and educator.

This is so stupid.  Family CEO?  Jeez, if moms can claim that, then I'm also a fucking chef.  I can do laundry, so I must be a laundress.  I comb my cats, so now I'm a personal stylist.  I count money, I'm an accountant.  I can put a bandaid on, I'm a nurse.  There's another list that has janitor.  I wipe up shit, I'm a janitoriatrix.  So if they didn't have kids, they wouldn't clean their houses, do their laundry, cook, or take charge of their finances.  Dumb.

Mothers shouldn't be compensated.  We should just take less from them and more from fathers.  Even fucking steven.

I think one thing you should consider Nuri is that mothers do all that stuff for the entire family, not just one person (themselves).

I did consider that and that still doesn't give them 90K a year.

Doing stuff for the entire family is how it should be, no matter who you are.  Whether you're a spouse or a caregiver for an infirm relative or whatever, people that cohabitate should do shit for each other.  Whether or not kids are present shouldn't figure into it.

Being a "mom" isn't a big deal that their breeding asses deserve 90K a year for screwing around and producing a child, and the point is that there's this aura of deserved compensation (whether through money or status), when the "compensation" is suppose to come from raising (you would hope) a successful and loving child.  Especially some of the moms I've seen.  If anything, they should give the rest of us 90K a year for raising retards and future drug dealers and bullies.

What's more, that article and many others like it assume that if a woman doesn't have kids, she wouldn't do most of those things anyway.  Laundry machine operator?  Are they joking?  You're just doing it for one other person more or however many.

I'm hate when people use their children as an excuse.  One of my group members recently had a baby and has been using the baby as an excuse for slacking off.  I'm thinking hell your on maternity leave, the baby had to sleep sometime so you can get some work done.  The other woman in my group is iritatied with her as well.  Lady you knew you were going to have this baby then why did you sign up for graduate school?!?  We just e-mailed our fourth project and the bitch hasn't lifted a finger to help.

Yeah that's why I don't plan to have a baby until I'm 100% I 'll be able to work without decreasing my results because of the baby.

I like owning a house.  It was one of my major life goals.  However, sometimes that means staying home some weekends to do the yard, taxes every year, paying out of pocket for repairs & improvements, which is what we've been spending every spare minute on for about 2 months; either doing shit or supervising it, but we have the new roof, upgraded electricity, cedar fence & multi-level deck we've been saving for, and there's only about 3-4 more projects to go.  We do this for US, not to impress anyone else.  We don't go around whining about our sore muscles and how haaaarrdd and expensive it is to own a house because we had a CHOICE - buy or rent.  We're not rich enough to hire other people to do everything.  Not too different from having a successful career OR kids - that, too, is a choice.  Both require work.  Both do NOT merit salaries anymore than I should be paid as a contractor from some mystery source because I hired the fence guys, roofer & electrician. :rolleyes:

I feel the need to repeat, if it's the most important job in the world, why are they whining about it?  Not exactly the same, mind you, but take religious zealots.  Not the faux-zealots ripping off the other followers' money, but die-hard zealots who think they are doing God's work or the most important work in the world for them.  Why isn't religious zealot on the list, because some of them sure give up a lot.  And they do a lot of work.  Unyielding doctrine maintainence, cross and bible handler, door-to-door conversionist (aka "sales"), mass suicide CEO, janitor (for the ones that didn't get any koolaid, hah).

I think mass suicide is a tax exception if it's more then fifty person. So if you got 49 people in the pack, better get out there and get you another convert.
