"LOLZ I'M MIKEL BAY AND JERKY CAMERA ACTION SCENZ LIEK TOTALLY RULEZ!!!1111 IT ALL LIKE IMMERSES YOU IN THE MOVIE N SHITS!!!1"

I went last night to see it, and the theater was about 3/4ths full. But every time I wanted to complain about some problem in the movie (like the jerkey camera syndrome), Optimus Prime would speak with Peter Cullen's voice and I'd get all misty eyed and forget all about the errors in the movie. AND I'M NOT EVEN A HARDCORE TRANSFORMERS FAN!!!

The fact they used the original Optimus Prime voice validated the entire movie for me.

The Section 7 guy was about the most annoying character in the entire movie. Even the fat black hacker was better.

Also, I remember thinking, when Sam was running into the abandoned building, that it reminded me of an abandoned building in Detroit. According to IMDB, the location was actually the Michigan Central Depot in Detroit. So I was right.

Today's the first day for Harry Potter, so when we left the theater at 10:30pm, there was a very long line of people wearing hats, scarfs, robes, ect... to see the 12:01 screening. I laugh at those freaks.

Edit: Hugo Weaving was Megatron? Oh god, that just upped this movie a couple notches on my movie ranking list.

I must be blind to product placement though, unless you're talking about the vehicles the Autobots choose to mimic.

Oh yea, if anything sucked it was the movie theater. During the battle on Air Force 1, the movie cut out and the lights went on, and then a second later the movie started again, but we missed half the battle. Where's my fucking refund/free movie pass?!?!?!

The Transformers cartoon will be taking place in Detroit, too.  Yay.  ::)

I disavow any knowledge of that pile of ignorance.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Where's my fucking refund/free movie pass?!?!?!

Well did you ask for it? You can't expect them to walk in after the movie and be all "our bad! here's a free one on us!"  You've leveled your bitching to 375.  Get out there and use it for christ's sake.

From the Hoover Dam to Detroit...

 :o

Impressive...

Well the movie was cut like crazy so I wonder if we will see more on the DVD.  And it looks like it will be an up year for Detroit....

.... The city the battle happened in was NOT Detroit. It seems Michael Bay hodgepodged the city in that movie from several different cities. The Michigan Central building is actually located outside of downtown, surrounded by abandoned factories and squatters homes.

Here's some photos of the building. Bernie and Tom might want to chell out the other photos on that site, Detroit has a lot of beautiful abandoned buildings.

Time for counterpoint.

The movie is all about the giant robot action.
That's what I was expecting.

Then I got stupid jokes, and too much movie time wasted on unimportant human characters. Sam's parents, Sector Seven guy, Anthony Anderson (black hacker), and Maggie (blond hacker) each got more screentime and lines than most of the robots, like Jazz, Starscream, and maybe Megatron.

Oh, and that scene with the tank transformer (Brawl/Devastator)... I don't think we ever got a good look at that guy. He transforms while Jazz is on him, and then there's a confusing shot with Ratchet flipping over the tank guy and cutting his hand off (so I assume they've got him under control, right? And we can move on and not worry about him anymore...). Then the tank guy is not shown again, I believe... until the "I'll drive, you shoot!" scene. At that point I was wondering, "What the hell is Bumblebee shooting at?" And then a couple seconds too long later, it shows the tank guy! Like I knew he was an ongoing threat... I never even got a good look at him.

And it seemed to end pretty quickly... just as long as the opening to that Linkin Park song would permit. And... we get to see Sam's parents make cliched lines about government conspiracies!

I think this was a clumsy movie... The opening was great, though. Probably from the beginning to the end of the Blackout scene was pretty good. The robot action that we did get was neat, but I thought the fights lasted too short, and I was also expecting a lot more after the build-up that I had to sit through.

I don't disagree with anything you said..."clumsy" is a good description.  But despite the fact it could have been done better, the action was worth going to see it, and I actually liked Sam and the "boy and his car" storyline.

Linkin Park wasn't a problem for me, since I don't know what they sound like and I have no clue what it was they were responsible for in the movie.

Linkin Park?  Meh.  I guess that would be the least of their problems.

Except he forgot to mention that as soon as the credit hit, it cuts from the shitty Linkin Park song to Billy Corgan's audible turd known as "Tarantula".

What happened to Corgan anyway? He use to be good. I heard the new Pumpkins song and it's horrid. I mean it's the Pumpkins, but it's "Filler on an 21 track album" Pumpkins. Not "worthy of a single so you'll buy our new album" Pumpkins.

I don't know how but I'm pretty sure he broke the 300 mark long before the expansion.

*BUMP*

I finally saw Transformers today.  I'm with Zero and Rampy on this one.  I'm glad I didn't pay to watch it and I had a remote in my hand to watch the "homemade edited" version.  We get only two transformations in first thirty minutes.  And while we meet Optimus and the others before the halfway point, it's over an hour into the damn movie (which was longer than it needed to be).  There were too, too, too many humans and too much focus on the humans and their boring inconsequential relationships and none of the robots.

Spike was a jerk.  Bernie Mac was completely unneccessary and also a jerk.  In fact, a lot of the people were assholes.  Megan Fox has a damn nice bod but unless it turns into a Kawasaki Vulcan Drifter, I don't know what the fuck she's doing in a transforming robot movie.  "Look at me.  Tits and ass."  I would've rather seen more of the blonde hacker, who was completely uncreditable as a hacker but whatever.  They set up too many people's stories and then just let them fade by the end of the movie.  I don't get why anyone would have any need to see this over again except possibly for some of the sequences with the robots destroying shit.  It kinda picked up about an hour and forty minutes in once the Decepticons mobilize.  Some action sequences were cool but too many were sloppy.  The only thing that keeps the movie from being a complete POS is that it at least looked slick, evening though upon viewing, you find it really wasn't.  It's never a good thing when you find yourself saying after a film, "That could've used more Anthony Anderson."  FTW.

Also, I liked the Frenzy robot.  And Starscream.  I was less impressed with the other bots.

They need a two hour long movie of nothing but the robots kicking each other's asses. Then it would be awesome beyond all.

Two hours of fighting robots would totally work.  Even if it sucks balls, it still has fighting robots in it fighting other robots who fight.  It's hard to lose.
