Not that I'm writing much, but I can't do it with the tv on.  Not even when I was sixteen, could multitask, and already had a handwritten script.  That's why I like doing it at night, since everything's relatively quiet.

Shit, i'm the opposite....I got the TV on, music playing, and wirting all the same time. It's like I have to keep all the other sections of my brain busy so they are not constantly going "I wonder what's on TV...we should go see...we can do this later.." and so on and so forth.

Really? Huh.....the only reason I didn't turn mine into Screenplay was because I was realstic and knew without connections...I wasn't going to get it made, but a book. AH-HA....That I could do.

But you say this friend is a producer eh? Well the friend of a Producer is my Friend! LOL!

What sucks for me is that a big time TV Producer actually lives in the same area as I do. One Kim Manners, writer/producer/Director for the X-Files and Producer for WB's Supernatural. I do have a way to get him my work, but I can't use it. I can't even tell you why I can't use it, cause if you knew why then even that could get people in serious trouble. It sucks, but it's the truth. So I guess I'll just try to keep making it on my own.

Music, I do.  I even make playlists to suit whatever I'm writing as a kind of soundtrack.

Oh yeah...I've actually come up with new scenes because of a song. And I have certain songs I listen too write a specfic type of scene. Like Black Beatty is my offical "Car Chase" song. lol

Ha ha, yeah, I do that, too.  I've always attached my own scenes to songs.  It also helps me retain ideas and expand scenes.

Course then you always have to loop the song, or at least I do, cause I can never write the whole thing in like 4 mins so I end up listening to the song over and over until a get sick of it, and then I can't stand to hear for months after that.

and I use to be able to retain all my ideas in my head, but I must be getting old or just burning up too many brain cells but I've had to start writing them down on Index cards. And I get these ideas and I don't really have any idea where they go....It was just an idea and so I have to fit it in someplace. So I bought these peg board and I just pin them up there where I think they'll fit best and if I want to change it later I can just move it around. Works pretty good...but then I got them up on the wall and I don't need them cause after I went through all that work with it now I can't forget it.

Well if you want to send me a script for my friend it will get some consideration...and you could insist that I play the lead role or at least get me one of those sweet mafia style "no-show" jobs...or a story credit! How am I involved in the story? Who knows!

I don't know who to feel more sorry for, you guys who work so hard on stories that may never publish, or me for never getting off my ass and doing anything with the ideas I have in my head because I assume they're too stupid/cliche to be published.
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

I use notebooks, the 91/2" x 6" ones so I can squeeze it into my purse.  (If I go any smaller than that, I don't have enough room on the page.)  I usually make them do double or triple duty so I can carry around the same one for everything.  So part of it will have a joke or a conversation, another part will have a grocery list, and then all of my class notes for my three sit-in classes all have their own spots.  When it gets full, I put it on the shelf and move on to a fresh one.  I also use post-it notes, which I file away in one of the notebooks later.

I carry around those little like black and white marblized notebooks with me most of the time. They are pretty small and I can't fit much on them but I have to fit them in my pocket. Which I almost have too cause stuff will hit me at strange times, like once I got an idea while taking a piss in restroom in Iowa of all places. And that's pretty normal, when I sit down to write stuff rarely comes to me, but they'll hit me out of the blue when I least expect them.  I don't usually use them for a lot though just make notes on them. I use to write everything in full note books, but then I'd have this whole thing full of jibberish. I mean one page would be one thing and the very next one would be something completely unrelated to it. And then I'd never go back to them. So I'd have stacks of these things laying around and I'd be so scared to throw them away cause there might be something good buried in them. I still do that to some degree, but not as bad anymore. I started using the index cards so it'd always be right in front of me and I couldn't forget I wrote it down.

Well you wouldn't be right for the main character. There is one you'd fit well for, but he is just a huge guy that the much smaller Hero beats up to prove a point. He has like 5 sec. of screentime and like two lines.

But even though I'd like to have my story made into a movie, I could also do without it. I'd be happy enough just having them be books. I could write one every 2-3 years and I could just spend the rest of my life working on those.Ttaking a trip someplace once-twice a year, travel around a little you know...and of course make those settings in my books so I could write those trips off in my taxes. Booyeah!

You should feel more sorry for yourself. Cause at least I'm trying, which is more then can be said for your lame ass.

This show just came on here. It's called "Jakers: The Adventures of Piggley Winks." And Mel Brooks of all people does some voice work on this show.

Composition books?  The ones bound with thread?  I can't stand those.  I think they look cute, but if I feel like I messed up a page, the OCD side of me demands that I rip it out and shred it to bits, and doing that automatically takes out the opposite page on the other side.  With a spiral, I can pretend the offending page never existed.

It does look a little bit like code, with phrases, situations and drawings messily scribbled on a page, but I prefer it that way.  (Once I write something on my comp, I get a highlighter or a different colored pen so I can still see through the marking and code a file name over it like "X_9r".)  Bothering to be neat is time consuming and I believe not being neat is also a throwback to when I would write and draw in middle school and people would look over my shoulder.  I couldn't stand that, and I don't know why.  I remember when I first started getting majorly depressed in middle school and I would draw monsters, eyeballs, and flowers (!!) and the few people who saw them thought they were cool.  I regret not having opened myself up for more feedback in those days.

They look like mini-versions of Composition books, and are held together by glue. They are small enough for me to fit them in my back pocket, and you can get them in four packs at like Wal-Mart. I use to use small spiral notebooks, but then every time I sat down the metal coil would dig into my back and make damn near impossible to sit comfortably. The few times I've tried to tear stuff out of it took the cover with it.

I also hate the thread bound notebooks, I only used one once for my writing and that was enough. I was dumb enough to think that the nice little lines on the front would make it really easy to organize cause I could put the name of what I was working on right there on the cover. I also seem to suffer from a minor OCD in the regard, but I tend to tear stuff out and then reorganize it using three ring binders and a three-hole punch. And like you anything that doesn't make the cut has to be totally destroyed. I actually ended up buying one of those 10 sheets at a time shedder because of it. Much faster, but a lot more noisy. One of these days I'll have to take a picture of the bookcase full of binders and the "Inbox" which amounts to a pile of papers on top of said bookcase which havn't been cut down (Which amounts to another OCD of cutting the frayed edge off from the notebook.) and then filed away in it's approiate binder.

I can identify with that. I'll sketch something so fast just to get the idea down that really only I know what it is. It's more a mental not then an actual finished work of some kind, just meant for me.

Opening up to feedback can be a double edged sword in a way. I actually showed a lot of stuff in HS to people and it always got mixed reviews depending on the person. But I actually like it. When I have people read my stuff I tell them to be as brutal as they can, because I don't want them to say something nice just cause they are afraid of hurting my feelings. And as long it's not something like "You're a Douche Bag." Or "This is so gay." I'm usually open to it.

My biggest thing at the moment is I'm paranoid of letting people see what I'm working on. I only let people that I trust read it cause I'm afriad someone will steal it. Like I'd proably let you read it, cause I  know you wouldn't do that...but I'd never post it on this board. Or anywhere it could just be looked up on the net by anyone with a search engine. I'd proably send it to someone in an email, but I'd like to avoid it if I could. My ideal is an actual hard copy (be it Manuscript, or saved word file on disk)  handed directly to the person I want to read it. I might send it through the mail, but again only if I had to.

But I'm hoping to start working on a treatment here pretty soon and then register it with the Writers Guild of America. They'll keep it on record for 5 years and if anyone else steals you're idea between now and then end of that 5 years, the fact that it's on file with guild will help you're case if you do get ripped off. Cost 40 bucks, but I think it'll be worth it in the long wrong. Then I can be a little more open with my work and also a littlle more open to feedback. As it stands now...I think only 2 people have ever read the full first draft I've written.

I still have some writing E sent me to look over in my inbox.   I'm still reading it too because I'm so busy now with school and my own writing, and I'm just not that fast a reader.

It's ok. I was just saying I trust you enough if you ever wanted too. Truth be known,  the story has changed so much since I wrote the first draft that I'm actually not letting anyone read it anymore. I'm only saving it for posterity. If you had actually said "Yeah, go ahead and send it." I would have been been caught, but I didn't figure you would. But I've been told it's a "Fast Read" by the people that have read it, all two of them.

It'll be awhile before I finish the 2nd draft. It took me 2 months to write the first and and that was when I was doing anywhere from 5-10 pages a night. I've had a run of writers block. Well actually I don't want to call it that as I'm still feeling creative and I do a lot of notes and pacing and what not....It's more like Typing block.  When I sit down to type it out I just can't seem to follow through. I think I've started the 2ndd draft six times and havn't finished a single one of them. So it'll be a while before I have another copy of this thing ready to be read. But when that does happen, I would value you're opinon of it. Cause like I said, I don't trust to many people, but I also need some feedback on this thing if I ever hope to make it better.

It wasn't so much me saying I didn't want to or couldn't read yours, and more like me saying I suck at giving other people feedback.

I'm seriously considering attempting to draw my story as opposed to just writing it.  I think more people would read it that way.  I'll have to see how my drawings come out and how comfortable I am doing it.  I've been looking at various webcomics, and so many of them are so hideously drawn and unfunny, I don't see how I could manage do any worse.

Have you ever denied someone from reading your script or knowing your story, and they actually seem insulted by it?

You just made it sound like you were busy. I wasn't insulted or anyting, I just understand what it's like to be too busy to do something.

And you're feedback would have to be better then "I don't think you should change anything." which is what one said to me. I'm just parital to opinons of other writers. And like I said as long as it's not "You're a douche bag and this is gay." I'd more then welcome it....You can say that on a completely unrelated note to my writing if you want, however. Just as long as get the honest opinon about the story first.

Are thinking about putting them up on the web, or like trying to get it actual published in book form?

Not yet...not to say it won't happen, but it hasn't yet. I have denied a few people that said they wanted to read it though. I try not to get to rude about it when they ask, but I have resorted to "Well you can read it when you buy it." before.

Maybe both.

Is your story some kind of Sci-fi deal?  Just asking cause you really seem to be into that...

You actually going to be in the market for a publisher, or would you self publish? I've found out the hardway that a lot publishers won't even look at you without an agent,There are some that do take first timers on though. Self publishing is nice, but it takes a huge chunk of money on your part...I'm keeping it open as a back-up plan because of the cost.

Quote

Well it's set in the future..but I didn't do that for the fact of just making it Sci-Fi. I did it cause I needed certain elements in place in order to do the kind of characters and story I wanted to do. I'd actually say it's more action adventure that just happens to be set in the future. It won't be Sci-Fi in the vein of St*r WarzzZZ or Star Trek. There are not aliens, there are no spaceships, or anyting like that. I avoided those on purpose to increase the reality of the story. It's not so far out there that you'll say "This could never happen." Very much the opposite is what I'm going for in fact. There is only one element that is pretty out there...but it's part of the overall stroy and it won't show up till like the 5th book in the series....provided I ever get the chance to get that far into them.

Actually it's more of a tragic love story....but you don't know that's what you're reading cause it's wrapped in this Action Adventure shell...but the overall story that is suppose to span 6 books is a tragic love story.

I'm not really thinking about publishing right now.  I'd need material for that first.  So far, I've done some character designs and I've written out several parts but I'm not close to done.  I'd rather complete most of it first before seeking out an agent or putting money into self-publishing.

That's proably for the better...After just looking throught the Writers Market book (Which if you don't have and are serious about someday getting your stuff out there you should look at.) was depressing enough to where I didn't write for a whole week. Only thing I found more depressing was seeing if I could find any grants for writers. So I've decided to go that route as well....finish it and then shop it around
