If at all.

It'd hardly be a world war.  North Korea doesn't exactly have a long list of allies with treaties that would force them to jump in.

Really, it would be almost everyone else pointing there guns at North Korea, and then North Korea crying and giving up.

If they actually have a nuclear weapon, it might not be quite as simple, but as far as I can tell, the plant they mentioned could enrich but there is no evidence of it having already happened.

If china's willing to risk everything to help them out, which I wonder.

China is NOT on their side, except to keep South Korea from controlling the North. Considering NK has not been willing to negotiate on a number of things, including trade across the borders, the number of refugees crossing into China, and nuclear arms, China's leaders are probably tired of dealing with what amounts to childish behavior in the political sense.

This article sums it up decently, I think: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/24/world/asia/24beijing.html

They're not. China is moving from powet to super-powet to THE powet, they don't want that kind of ally.

The US will do the same thing it did when one of its other allied countries, Israel, got the shit rocketed out of it: nothing. This is due to present overextension and the fact that China might involve itself. South Korea will do nothing substantial, again, in fear of provoking a Chinese response...that is, unless they've grown some balls in the past sixty years. I wouldn't be shocked if they had access to atomic armaments, but that'd be bad for the US as the rest of the world would look down their long noses at us, presuming that we gave it to them. Then there'd be hell to pay.

China however will do nothing except be the 800lb gorilla in the room, thereby keeping the US out of it. Their intervention is ultimately unnecessary, as they will deal with NK if Kim ever threatens the Chi-Coms, which he won't if he wants to keep living.

By all rights, South Korea should be made into an island tonight. But it won't happen. Kim Jong Il and his darling son will also remain in powet, if for no other reason than half the North Korean people would probably commit suicide if they were removed.

Or they will do what they did with another one of their "allies" (Argentina) got into a war with a powerful nation (England), give money to a 3rd country that'd defend Argentina (in this case Peru) and act like they were neutral. True story btw, AND NO NOT FROM WIKIPEDIA FU.

Look like we are just going to tell China to keep his boy in line and then hang the spanking paddle on the wall in the form of the "George Washington" just in case.

So the US sent one of his big boats to Korea (to stay in front of the coast). Who owes me money?

This has also been done before during other situations when countries shell each other and nothing really came out of it.

The US Navy sends their big boats all over the place just in case.

Well that just confirms that they'll get involved.
