Title: Official Back-Up Board
Post by: B E C K on Oct 02, 2010, 11:25:45 AM

BAD ASS PAC MAN'S BAD ASS YUKU (http://badasspacman.yuku.com/)

That's right, I'm sending you back to an EzBoard (now Yuku).  Anyway, save the link, troll it, or whatever.
If you still have your Ezboard accounts, you can actually dust it off and use it.

Why do we need a back-up board? Is BAPM planning a terrorist attack on this board?
Title: Re: Official Back-Up Board
Post by: B E C K on Oct 02, 2010, 03:02:36 PM
Yes.  Yes, he is.  To answer your initial question though:

- I was unsuccessful at upgrading to the newest mysql for the board's database, so I still need to shut down the board sometime and try that again.
- In the event board dies or something, it's nice to have a fall back since not everyone's on FB.
- I just wanted to make a Yuku and test out shit.
- I just wanted to invite you folks to my Yuku.
- I like the sound of "Bad Ass Pac Man's Bad Ass Yuku".
- Other reason here.

LOL did you have to reregister or something?  Why are you Rama Sha @ badasspacman (http://ramasha.badasspacman.yuku.com/)?  That sounds so wrong.

I know they've been changing things up at Yuku.  I was able to connect five of my old accounts but then I read somewhere that the maximum is three.  And you can't delete an account.  (I wanted to kill off Kali Sha. *snork*)  I guess I should've saved one of my other accounts while I could even thought they're technically not dead, but it would've been nice to have one of those connected instead of one I don't intend to use ever again.  The same goes for my .realitytvtalk acct.  That wasn't even a Yuku, that a was vbullentin or some junk I visited some six or so years ago.  Those people apparently downgraded.

I couldn't remember my password. I changed it like once a month back then, and the email a registered with went the way of the dodo about 7 years ago.

And Yuku added that little "@ badasspacman" part. I had nothing to do with that. Kept telling me RamaSha was available, but then wouldn't let me register it. It finally went though, but turned into that.

And you wanted to to kill off Kali? I think 40th trimester abortions are illegal.

Yes, I know it did.  I just find it hilarious.  If you post somewhere other than BAPM's Yuku, your username'll be RamaSha.badasspacman.  Why wouldn't it let you register it?  And shoot, "once a month"?  People would try to hack you or somethin'?

You're going from MySQL 4 to 5 on ICDSoft? Yeah, I remember it being a PITA, but I got it to work after backing off a while and looking at it fresh.

Yeah, I had backed up everything, made a new DB, but then I all but broke the board and it refused to run on my settings.  And then I realized I was nearly using up all of my disk space so I deleted the new db as well as the one from the previous board software that I had saved.  So I am gonna try again, but I'm not sure when.  Also I figured I might prune a bit (I deleted a bunch of spammer accounts and old attachments) and such.

Ha ha, oh dear, good times.

I also noticed I can't give you points.  Not that I have any idea what the points do.  I was able to give a couple to Squirrel because he has the same account-type as me but not to you.
Title: Re: Official Back-Up Board
Post by: B E C K on Oct 04, 2010, 04:23:28 AM
And I'm able to give my other ones except Huntress points, too.  Wow, so it's like the whole global vs. local account thing except the locals can go post at other boards.  That's kinda neat if the local accounts weren't so neutered.

I noticed this a while back but never clicked on it until today.  Years ago, I put BAPM's location as Pac-Land and now Yuku has BAPM based in the Phillipines.  http://bad-ass-pac-man.u.yuku.com/

lol, well, according to yuku, having a leashed account is an UPGRADE.  And when I was browsing profiles in it as Huntress, I actually had ads pop up at the bottom of the screen.  And that's an UPGRADE.  They crazy, chief!

Oh Purple...I love Purple.

Yeah I had some nice ads that told me that I should watch Glee. Guess what's going on the list.

Yeah, some of my old globals accounts (which I had forgotten about) were leashed to the main one and it's screaming upgrade at me.

Seems Yuku's attempting a degree of social networking with their system. No thanks, I get enough crap like that from Facebook.

Yeah, talk about "innovating" way too late.  This would've probably been a hit if they had done this when we were all first using Ezboard.  Needless to say, I'm not interested in it now.  Especially not when I'm getting extra ads for my trouble.

It's better to get the social stuff than be hit up for a "Gold CSC" membership everytime I log on.

So far I've stayed logged in and I get far less bombarded using my old accounts.  With my Huntress account, the pages slow down and the dumb Glee thing or whatever pops up at the bottom.  I hate those little chat/status bars or whatever.

I had backed up everything, made a new DB, but then I all but broke the board and it refused to run on my settings.

I'm fuzzy on this, since I actually get into Wordpress' guts more than SMF's, but make sure that the database server is set to "localhost:/tmp/mysql5.sock" and that the database name, user, and passwords are all square before you try anything. I wish I knew which file this modified, since it'd be way easy to get in there and edit that if your board gets borked again. I mean, I'll feel silly if you already did this before, but if it sounds new to you...that's probably where the snafu happened.

I was under the impression that the database doesn't count towards your web space size total. You must be skirting pretty close to your limit. When I had that problem, I upgraded...the cost wasn't exorbitant and the much greater space is awesome.

It looks like it did because I had the old forum saved for years and was using this one, and I was no where close to my limit.  But once I made the new one I got the warning.

Thanks for the tips.  It'll help when I try it again.
Title: Re: Official Back-Up Board

I don't know how the account I'm using could be considered an upgrade. I uploaded an Avatar 3 days ago and it still hasn't shown up in my posts. Where as everyone that could access their old EzBoard accounts work just fine. Man I wish I could back into my old account. I don't remember how many I posts I had, but it was an obscene amount.

It also wouldn't let me leave a comment on Beck's profile because I'm too "Upgraded" to do that. HA! Oh and it was just I saw your stuff about wanting to be a writer and was going to post on it. Course I don't know if you should take advice from a guy with one thing published in the last 3 years.

HOLY SHIT.  I just got an email from my host saying I'm using 90% of my space.  And the bulk of that is filed under databases!  How the fuck is that possible?  The last time I got that email, I had three databases: this one, my old Invision Power Board one, and the new MySQL5.  I deleted two whole databases and their data/images and pruned users and images from this one.  I swear it must've cut usage in half at the time and now I'm back to 90% when I haven't even tried upgrading to MySQL5 again?  HUH!?   :goddammit: :goddammit: :goddammit:

W-W-WHA~~?   :o

I didn't even realize that error log saved every damn thing.  I had stuff from 2007 saying that me, Zero, and Squirrel forgot our passwords and other shit like that.  So I emptied that badboy out and got a shitload of space back.  I think it filled up from upgrading my board since a lot of errors appeared to be due to stuff I had before--like the ignore button, myspace button, etc--that isn't being found.  I'll let the errors occur again and then go about fixing them.

Well I had to go to Yuku to try to get into my account. No doubt they'll ask why I want into my old EZBoard account when I have this faaaaaar superior Yuku account, but I wants what I wants.

Strangely my default password I use for almost everything didn't work. At first I didn't think I used that password that far back, but then it was the password I gave to Beck here to access my email account when there was something strange about an email I got and that was at the height of the RP days. So I was using it then, but it wasn't the password for this. I've been entering passwords for the last three days now and none of them work. To make matters worse I think the email I had set on this account got deleted by Hotmail in one of those mass cleanings.

There's also a function in the SMF admin area to optimize the tables, which might net you some added space and fewer errors.

Well after 3 days of going back and forth with Yuku, they just told me tough shit. Course I'm being obnoxious and still trying to get it. I gave them a shit load of info about the account. Past passwords, past emails, past boards I'd posted at, and even said I could find people with old eZboard accounts that posted with me that could verify that was my account, but because I couldn't remember the email I used to register it 11 years ago...that they can't do it.

Bullshit!

I could have "reclaimed" a certain someone's ezboard ezOP account simply because I remembered that person mentioning his favorite color in an IM once upon a time. On hindsight, I should have commandeered it and been a real bastard, but I was too kindly in those days. Nowadays I'd have done so with impugnity and gone ahead with wrecking the sad sack lives of some truly pathetic people.

It probably ranks on my Time Machine to-do list at #31.

I couldn't remember an example but now I do.

I had bought shoes for $70~ ish dollars, found them to be uncomfortable, and returned them. "We can't take them back, you wore them." Of course I wore them, for a single day, to try them out. God damn. So they gave me a gift card.

I can't remember the details but I think the gift card accidentally had a zero balance on it, so I had lost quite a bit of money. I came into the store so much they knew my name by heart, and called their customer service and corporate a gazillion times. The store owner finally took pity on me (or maybe he was sick of me), and got me a new gift card.

Which I promptly sold on ebay. :D

I am shocked that my spooie account still works.  Though, it says I joined in October 2000, though I know it was before that.  Of course, was one of those rare people with a local AND global... local at Ass-spank in fall of 1999... but I know the global account was well before that.

I don't know when I've had the capability to create a forum and use it as a redirect, but I've now done so for the Yuku.  So I can unsticky/unpin this thread and let it float to the bottom.
Title: Re: Official Back-Up Board

*BA-BUMP!*

Okay, so fucking Yuku (and apparently some other board systems) were acquired by Tapatalk. It completely fucked stuff up. The little formatting I had done to the Yuku is goners. You can only edit some basic colors unless you stick in CSS in a hidden box on some random page somewhere. My custom emoticons went boom. There's random 404 errors that appear, making me go back to the previous page, refresh, and retry the link.

The reeeeeeeally stupid thing: the Yuku allowed me to access up to five ezBoard accounts with the same Yuku account. Tapatalk fucking nuked that. So if you forgot your password and put in your email, it could spit back any one of your five accounts and there doesn't appear to be any way to toggle through them anymore. So I forgot my Nuri password and ended up with a password reset for BAPM. I did a "work around" by changing BAPM's email to another email once I got inside that account. Then I tried the reset again and it shot me an email for my Nuri account. But what a fuckin' pain. Some people are gonna lose accounts again.
