I'm going to pull a Doug here and bitch and complain. Okay maybe not. I'm just feeling sad. I came across the myspace profile of an old classmate. The woman is working on her Ph.D.! I greatly admire her ambition yet I am dismayed at my own lack of ambition. I’ve been sulking all day. I know I shouldn’t compare myself to other but my lack of drive is disturbing to me. I remember a time when I dreamed big and wanted to achieve in life. I failed to plan properly during college and after and now I am stuck. I do not want to be stuck behind this library counter or any counter for that matter for the rest of my life. I’m tired of never having money. I called my father this morning with the intention of asking for some money but I couldn’t muster up the nerve. I would love to say I have no debt, and I own my own home, and I am able to do things for those I care about. I know I have to change this but I am lost as to how to do it. I needed to let this off my chest.

Sweetened with Splenda!
Fails at spam. Needs a link to splenda website.

Every other thing she drinks has Splenda in it. She doesn't need a link.
-
I have no motivation or goals in life, and I'm betting, almost hoping, that I'll be dead before I turn 25.
Meh.

.....Live, Make some money, Enjoy Life, Get married, have some Sex, Have a daughter or son, Live as long as possible, have some fun, then die.

party hardy, sex, husband, children with nannies, travel.

Well at least I'm better off then Merla...that makes me feel slightly better.

party hardy, sex, husband, children with nannies, travel.
I agree.
On the last one anyway.
-
don't tell me you dont wanna have sex!
-
Something about babies and diseases and my general misanthropy somehow make the horny go away.
-
Not me! I love sex. So much so that eventually they're gonna make a game called Penis Hero and my johnson will be the mold for the controller. You'll watch videos of me doing it and have to stroke it up and down while pressing it's 3 balls in order to pass the stage.
-
What did you major in, Merla, if you don't mind me asking?
*is having a crisis on what he wants to do for college*
-
what!
"do for college"??? whatever! i'm graduating in 2 months:'(

Well at least I'm better off then Merla...that makes me feel slightly better
You are?!?! O_O that’s news to me buddy. I guess your book is further along than I thought.
Who the heck told me to have kids needs to be shot. I do not like them.
TM2 I majored in Liberal Studies with a core in History (the majority of my coursework is in history and political science). I started out a biology major (24 or so credits), however I hated chemistry and all biology majors have to minor in chemistry (to include 2 semesters of organic chemistry and in some cases bio. Chem.). I then changed to history and I would have stayed that way except my advisor took a sabbatical one semester and I had no one to help me plan for my defense exit exam plus I was missing my a European and an Asian history class. I changed to liberal studies which did not require a final paper or a defense exit exam.
A liberal studies degree is the type of an elementary teacher gets. Except mine’s without teacher certification. The degree is not, for obvious reasons, marketable. At the time I wasn’t concerned because I planned on becoming a librarian. Library schools expect all types of majors into their programs. One does not need to have a specific undergraduate degree. I no longer want to be a librarian but that’s a different story I don’t have time for now.
While I would never tell someone not to do what they love, my advice to you would be to major is something marketable. I hear finance majors are doing quite well.

I'm at the point where I've started looking for a publisher...And have started working on the Treatment to send out. And I also know this is what I want to do, there is no more limbo about what I should do with my life. I also don't have any debt to speak of and I have a pretty good credit score.
I was also fixing up a a house that happens to be on property we own and had plans to work out a deal to buy the land it sat on and the house off my Mom and Aunt (who own the land now that my Grandma has passed) but I ended up having to rip out all the guts of the house. First the floor had broken through so I ripped up the floor, only to discover the subfloor was damaged as well. So I ripped that up and the joist underneath had rotted out so I replaced them as well, and then I found out the still plate was also rotted so I said to hell with it as it was starting to be cheaper to just build a house then to fix this one. So we are still even on the owning a home bit.
And I agree about the kids...I don't know if I want kids or not. I use to say I did, but every time one screams at the top of his lungs in the mall and it echoes off the wall and it's that ear piecing, just below a dog whistle scream it just makes me want to go get a vasectomy that minute. For every cute thing a kid does they do about 100 non-cute make you wish you had never had them things and that doesn't seem like a fair trade off to me. I think I'm the only one that I graduated with that does not have a kid. Seems everytime I run into someone from High School they always have small country in tow behind them.
-
And they don't come with return receipts if you find out that a kid doesn't fit you.
If undecided, there are plenty of ways to have enjoyable interaction with kids and possibly do them some good as well without making a DNA replicant. Eddie is having fun coaching youth hockey. I used to read to kids in the library before I got heavily involved with animal welfare (and the kids who work with the adoption programs are fantastic). Lots of people have kids because it's "the thing to do" or part of the Life Script they don't have the originality to consider rewriting and don't have time for them once they're past the ga-goo stage. <_<
-
In order to understand the way I am now, you must go back, back to my childhood...
*insert flashback sequence*
Back when I was a child, my dream was to become some sort of scientist or inventor or explorer. I wanted to make some great discovery or invention to change the world, like exploring ruins, finding the missing link, creating the cure for cancer, or even being an astronaut.
But, during high school I realized there was no real degree for being an inventor. (actually, there is, it's called Engineering). I considered going into science but couldn't decide which field I wanted to go into. Engineering was too math oriented and I dislike math. So was architecture. I loved working on computers and had a nack with multimedia, so people suggested a computer major, and I had taken one programming class and enjoyed it, so that became my major.
* end shitty flashback *
Now, I wouldn't be in Computer Science if I hated it. It's not something I love to death, but it's challenging in a good way, and I seem to be really good at it because I usually get assignments done before everyone else, and everyone comes to me for tutoring (no hot chicks yet though :( :( ). So I am in something I'm good at, but personally, I'm not sure I really want to be a desk jocky when I graduate. Personally, if I could do anything I wanted at all, I'd be trying to get greedy, powet-hungry nutjobs like CEOs, dictators, and Bush & co out of powet, and stopping terrorism and war and poverty to boot. But there's no superhero degrees at my school.
-
Also, I was thinking, if IDE wants to make his life goal sexing up young college girls, he should consider being a college professor. Then he can give good grades for hot sexor. I certainly wouldn't mind having such a job. :P
-
Not me! I love sex. So much so that eventually they're gonna make a game called Penis Hero and my johnson will be the mold for the controller. You'll watch videos of me doing it and have to stroke it up and down while pressing it's 3 balls in order to pass the stage.
 Tell you what, if they make it I'll buy one.
I still don't know what I'm majoring in. I went in with the intention of going into Accounting, but have been told by a few people (including an accountant) not to because there isn't much room for upward mobility. Not to metion I read it's a popular major now so I imagine by the time I'm done the market might be oversaturated. Now I'm looking at Finance or Economics. The Marketing and Management ones don't look like they're for me. At least I still have until the end of the Fall Sem to declare.

I don't even really like to be around them all that much. I don't know if it would be different if it was one my kid, but I just don't like to be around them. Plus all the names I like i usually assign to characters I've created for my writing. I got two dogs and two cats and people tell me that kids are 100 times worse and I don't know if I like the sound of that. I'm always chasing some animal around the house yelling "Would you give me that!" or "GET DOWN FROM THERE!" and doing that a 100 times more then I do now doesn't sound like its "The greatest experience you'll ever have" to me.
-
Today on both trips into downtown, there were kids screeching. God, I just wanted to club their little brains in. I don't even want to imagine them roaming my house and defacing my stuff.

Ah, thanks, Merla.
... I wanted to major in Illustration until looking at www.salary.com and that Princeton Review site that it'd be a hard life of freelance (but you do it b/c you love your job) and that my income would be less than a high school teacher's, it seems.
-
Illustration? You draw? Can I see?
-
Maybe I'll show you something once I'm done with this all this school-related work in the next 2 weeks... >_>
I'd either draw a sketch of something new or post a traditional fine art-y pic from school...

I need to have a son at some point if for no other reason than to transfer my soul into his body so that I may live another 100 years.

You guys remind me of a Justice League comic once, where Guy Gardner goes out with Ice. A sweet and caring woman, Ice comments about wanting children one day. A crass and despicable bastard, Guy says he just wants in on making them.
I don't understand the irrational fury towards children. Sure, they're annoying sometimes, but point out any human being regardless of age and I'll show you a person with the potential of being an asshole at any given stage of life. At least with a child of your own, you can influence how that child turns out.
I'm going to father a child some day, and I hope he or she turns out to be just like me. But if even if that doesn't happen, I'll be happy about it. But like David Alan Grier told Damon Wayans in Blankman, "man, you gotta be with a woman, first!"
-
You're talking like those of us who don't like children somehow only dislike children. Don't forget the seniors!
-
I'd like a daughter. The only problem with that is I'll probably end up going to jail for killing boyfriends.
-
Every childfree individual I've ever spoken with wants the following. It's really not much.
- Not to get a steaming load of shit in the form of insults and character assassination for not wanting children.
- Recognition of the simple fact that not everyone wants to be or should be a parent. We don't want to "have just one and try it". Chances are very much AGAINST our "changing our minds once we have one". Give us some credit for recognizing that we're talking about another LIFE. Having a kid isn't nickle slots in Vegas.
Now I can only speak for myself here, but not having children was never a "hedonistic lifestyle choice" for me. It was a gut feeling that had been there since I hit puberty. Possibly this is an innate species survival technique to ensure enough resources, as I've heard theorized. Hell, there are muriqui monkeys in South America that practice birth control by eating phytoestrogens. Obviously they're not making a lifestyle choice.
I don't understand the irrational fury towards children.
99.99% of my fury is toward the irresponsible parents. From day one, it is a parent's JOB to guide, direct and prepare his/her offspring to be a functioning member of whatever society they are a part. This includes correction when the child behaves inappropriately, which has been terribly out of fashion for some time now in the sacred cause of "damaging self-esteem" (usually a synonym for "I don't want to admit that I can't handle my child"). Withholding such is one of the worst forms of child abuse I can think of because the parent is denying the child the opportunity to learn. Mommy and Daddy can't protect the kid forever - someday, there will be a college prof or a boss or someone else in authority that will take Junior or Princess in their jaws and shake him/her until teeth are rattling. Trophies for everyone and not bothering with teaching the social lubrication of simple courtesy and manners are piss-poor methods of preparing for that day.
-
Now I can only speak for myself here, but not having children was never a "hedonistic lifestyle choice" for me.
On the flip side to this, someone with a hedonistic lifestyle probably wouldn't be the best canidate to be a parent.

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!![/size]
So why try to talk them into it? Envy? Misery loves company? Or, as was sneered at me by a former co-worker after my sterilization, "So you're really going to get away with it!" Get away with what??! :joe:
-
That was your cue to babble "robble, robble" and run off.
-
I wonder what the Veggieburglar says?
-
I hear he's an even bigger loser compared to the hamburgler. Why the heck did the hamburgler have to steal anyhow? They cost like what? a dollar a piece? and I know they were even less than that when I was a kid.
-
He did it for the thrill.
And I hate that "Just have one and you'll change you're mind"arguement. Oh yeah and what if I don't? What if it's just as bad as I thought it was going to be? Not like I can take it back to the hospital and say I changed my mind. I think they are just trying to trick us into being breeders like them.
-
I cringe every time I see a headline about some broad having a kid long after the age she should be doing so. Someone invariably bounces up to me with the good news that "it's not too late!" I swear someone's going to be shaking my cremation urn hollering, "SURE YOU DON'T WANT ANY KIDS?"
-

Not if you remember the receipt. "Yes, I'd like to return this child. It's unwrapped but I never used it."
I think even if I wanted children, I still wouldn't want to give birth. Bleh. Forget what it would do to my body, I'd be mortified that every other thing I did would somehow kill it. And then there would be a corpse inside of me, and I'd give birth to a zombie and everyone would be screaming.

Illustration? You draw? Can I see?
Okay, here's 3 pieces that I did for art classes in high school...
http://members.cox.net/tm3rampage/bottle2.jpg (http://members.cox.net/tm3rampage/bottle2.jpg)
http://members.cox.net/tm3rampage/pumpkin2.jpg (http://members.cox.net/tm3rampage/pumpkin2.jpg)
http://members.cox.net/tm3rampage/toomuch2.jpg (http://members.cox.net/tm3rampage/toomuch2.jpg)
I do fanart and stuff, too btw... except I hardly have any right now... Art class has discouraged fan art and anime-y or comic-y styles... except they still want us to do stylized stuff that is either of our own original styles or something that is less common in comics/anime and more common in art galleries (my person opinion).
-
Ah. Sweet. I remember drawing bottles and gourdes in art!
-
Ha ha, "cox". Reminds me of one of my old art professors who I would make fun of in my dumb drawings: http://www.darthnuriko.com/forums/uploads/...-1146116975.jpg (http://www.darthnuriko.com/forums/uploads/post-2-1146116975.jpg)
I love that last one, Ramps. I wish I drew even half as good. Is that more your style?
-
my ex art history professor wants to fuck me.
-
Art history, eh? He probably wants to fuck me too.
-
No, hes 100% straight and all the girls love him cause he flirts a LOT.
-
Sounds like a class act. I say go for it.
-
won't, im worried he'll have a wrinkly ass. that would freak me out
-
My career planning instructor wanted to fuck me...
she got her wish.
-
won't, im worried he'll have a wrinkly ass. that would freak me out
 Then don't look?
-
Yeah. Let him go anal.

Ah, thanks Nuri. I used a black marker with a brush tip (only shaped like it; no actual bristles) to draw it. I used a bunch of references, though, so it wasn't too hard. My dad took my picture in those poses/angles and I sketched them out before using the marker. You can kinda tell which ones I made up real quick where the face is too round... (I did it late at night before it was due).
So uh... what's a switch?
-
I shut my brain off, so here:
A Switch is a flexible rod typically used for punishment. Switches can be made of willow branches, for example.
What kind of marker was it? Just curious. I used to draw early, early stuff back when I was a kid with sharpies, not knowing the damn things greened over time. But yeah, it's pretty damn good for you having done it late at night. Also wondering, do you have one of those posable mannequins? Or do you prefer using pictures as a reference?
-
It was a black Copic Ciao marker. Yeah, expensive <_< (well, it's like 5 bucks for one)I just used it because it came in a set... yeah, even more expensive <_<.
There are brush-tip markers and pens that are much cheaper and actually the ink on those are darker and blacker (and don't fade) than a black Copic marker. I have 2 Faber Castell pens that I use that don't smudge/bleed when you color over it with a Copic marker, so the ink on a Faber Castell is alcohol-proof and waterproof (as it says on the pen).
I don't have any of those poseable mannequins. I don't feel that they realistically represent human anatomy, and they are not that poseable. I've drawn enough figures using guidelines and 3d geometric shapes that I can usually draw a figure and work it out from memory and adjust to make it look right.
When I do need a reference, I either look for a photo or take one, or even look at another artist's work from a comic or something.
Or, I use a Super Poseable Spider-Man figure from the Spider-Man 2 movie's action figure line. http://www.mwctoys.com/REVIEW_010504b.htm (http://www.mwctoys.com/REVIEW_010504b.htm)
Yeah he's rigid and looks very odd when you try to stand him up straight like a normal person, but it kinda helps... at least for drawing people in Spider-Man poses. But his poseability is pretty impressive... I think it's the first time where I've seen an American action figure where you can move the shoulders forward and back.
What's weird is that the current version of this toy has magnets in his hands. I feel kinda gipped.
-
Magnets? Can you toss him up on your fridge?
-
Yes.
Actually now I think the magnets are in his feet.. anyway the point is I got mine early on and it has no magnets at all.
-
I have that figure......I have the one too with magnets in the hands and feet. He's been on my Fridge for years now.
-
Give him a carrot.
