So I've finally moved into my new place. It's in a building that looks a little rundown, but the apartment itself is really nice. The landlord went to college with my dad and has been a friend of the family my entire life, so that's nice. He's a contractor with a lot of nervous energy, and the apartment was recently remodeled, which is also nice. One of the people that live in the building has ferrets, so that's not nice.
Since I've always lived like a hermit, I had next to nothing for furnishing, limited to only a bed, my desk, and a beanbag chair with a hole in it. The situation is great for college living -- you're poor as dirt and moving constantly. But I have a real job now and it's probably time to put that style of living behind me. Since I've saved up some money while living at home, I went out and bought a new living room set; add a 26" LCD tv, surround system, a little kitchen set and all the other miscellanious shit one needs to live alone and my checking account is screaming for mercy.
However, my apartment actually looks pretty nice now. It almost looks like an adult with some modicum of style lives there. Of course the adult portion gets tossed out when you wander into the sedond bedroom, filled with boxes and boxes of toys...and the "style" portion evaporates when you walk into my bedroom with the broken Rubbermaid drawers as a makeshift dresser and the unmade bed with the mismatched sheets. But it's a nice illusion while it lasts.

If I were near enough, I'd bring over a Walmart deli cake to you for a housewarming present.
-
Style -5! But I'm sure it would be delicious and cost effective.
-
And Style -10 if the icing gives you the runs.
-
Didn't you move there like 1 month ago?
-
1 week ago I started moving shit in. This last weekend I finished.
-
Congratulations! ... and stuff....
Appartment living sucks balls. I can't wait to get a house.
-
California Is too god damn expensive to live in.
-
So's Maryland.
Our gas is not only 4 cents above the national average, but our Governor's recent de-regulation of energy services is about to result in a 72% hike in the cost of energy...
-
Congrats on your new apartment. Are you allowed to paint it at all? Or is it too nice to paint?
-
My place is white. I hate it. It's boring... that being said painting would be too much like agreeing that I'm staying here for a long time and I have no desire to do such a thing. This is a temporary arrangement.
That's the problem with renting. Painting once is one thing but you have to paint it all white again when you move out and, especially with a dark colour, it can take a lot of coats of white to cover up.
-
Use screens or hang fabric. You could take it with you when you move.
I can't stand white myself. My room right now is completely hot pink. I love it. With my lamp on, it's like I'm in the womb. A womb with huge curtains and rope lights and a computer.
-
I don't remember all that stuff being in the womb. My childhood sucked.
I could probably paint, but I honestly don't feel like putting that kind of effort into it.

no fucking way! really?
i know for sure that lake tahoe is veeeery cheap
-
Florida is extremely expensive to live in x.x
I loved Tax-a-chusettes.
-
Property values in vegas are cheap and it's like living in the middle of a perpetual spring break
-
Like anyone'd really want to live in the stench of whores and gambled-away dreams.
-
A X-files style monster that lived on the broken dreams of others might....or lived off whores. You know, either one.

I've heard differently from people who live there.
-
I don't know how much rent is there but if the property values have gone up it happened in the past year and a half. And when I say cheap I mean they're the same as around here (Tallahassee, FL).
-
Nuri's room is like a womb. I never thought of it before.
If I lived near by I would bring a plant or something. Maybe I can mail you some seeds.
-
Florida is way too expensive for repossessed swamp land. When the bubble bursts, Florida will be horrid to live in.
-
It won't be so bad...
I'll shave my head, get an air boat, a eye patch and rule over the half human gator mutants with an iron fist.
-
Wow, who heard about this?

well there goes my summer vacation :(
-
My room is a color called "Posh Red" on the top half and a Wood paneling on the bottom that has a leather look to it. That's all accented by black trim.

According to today's USA Today, natural disaster-wise Nevada is the best place in the US to live and Texas the worst. It's not really scientific by any means, but they did it crudely on a eight-point system by counting how many disasters could hit that particular state. Not a very good measure since Texas is friggin' huge, too. Two of the disasters that gained us two points, hurricanes and tornados don't really hit San Antonio. The worst we have is the heat and the occassional flood. And, I guess the Mexicans, too.
Pfft, Nevada. No way in hell is that place safe.

Except for volcanos and earthquakes, Houston is pretty much nature's bitch. <_<
-
I think I could live in San Antonio. The older the city the more I like it, and I'm pretty tired of the winters up here. Although I'd have to live on the outskirts of town. I'd never get any peace if you dropped me right into the middle of town. Found that out last time I was in Saint Louis.

No! No Homers!
-
No!! Go away you!!
-
That's two. Tribe has spoken!
-
I can just feel the love.....Seriously. <_<
-
You don't get to talk, just take the torch and go.

No....In fact, If Merla doesn't want me to do it....well ,damnit, that's reason enough TO do it for me. Watch out Alamo city...Rama's coming!
But don't panic just yet...I have to sell the book first.

The ring came off my pudding can. :(

*sends Sam a housewarming can opener*

The Alamo City is over rated. All we have a green river.
-
So...Water is green here too. I'd just be trading in a green lake for a green river.
-
The ring came off my pudding can. :(
Fuk! I hate when that happens. Welcome to my childhood, circa 1988.
-
Damnit! Someone was supposed to say "Take my penknife, my good man."
-
What? Are you mad, woman!? What if you don't give it back?
