Post by: IDE on Mar 22, 2006, 07:47:29 PM: So I'm in the gym and this guy comes up to me and asks if I watch any other anime besides DBZ?

And I say "yeah"

Then he tells me that theres gonna be an anime convention this saturday and that I should go also he knew I watched anime without even seeing my DBZ shirt because of the psychic bond that all otaku share.

*sigh*

I guess it was only a matter of time before my people found their savior. Now I must go forth and make them all cool. The days of the fat dorky anime fan are coming to an end. I will teach them that working out makes for better cosplay and soon they'll have bodies like mine and super spikey hair.

(plus there's gonna be a jpop band).

It's true I've never been to a con. The INTERNET led me to believe that hot cosplayers and muscley men were rare occurences.

I'm guessing they're just gonna be on display for japanophiles...but I could be wrong. I'll post more afterwards but I have a feeling this convention is just a little local thing that this anime club (I hear we have one...I don't know why I haven't gone trolling for fangirl over there yet) is putting on.

A finished set will run you $140+. I only paid $60 because I bought the kit. The aluminum pieces are pre-cut, the catch is that I have to attach them to the handles and polish the aluminum myself.

Post by: Extra Zero on Mar 25, 2006, 12:33:05 PM: As far as polishing is concerned, you start off with a really low grit sandpaper and wet-sand out all the bumps and scratches, then work your way up through higher grit sandpaper until the claws have a satin or brushed look to them. Then you buff and polish them until they get a mirror-like finish... That's as much as I know and I've never polished aluminum before, so this will be a fun project.

They come with 6 's' shaped rods that screw into the back ends of the claws and get bolted down to two thin aluminum blocks. The optical illusion comes from the backs of the claws being contoured and the top back is extended to give the appearance that they're coming out of your skin.

I went to the con and it was nerdtastic! There was a video game room and my friend owned these kids in third strike. One of them was really getting annoyed (which was great). I was the only one who could finally beat him. I wrote 4chan memes on scrap paper and left them in the art contest room. Then 2 busted nerd girls tried to flirt with me a little. Finally we watched about 15 minutes of an episode of harlock saga and left.

Cosplayers of note:

Black Mage from Final Fantasy
Lufee from one piece
and a persucom

There were a couple others but I couldnt tell who they were (like a guy in a white collared shirt and biger gloves claimg to be "jake" from something or other).
