Please vote. I may support Kerry, but everyone should have thier voice count... well if they are over 18.

I'd like to vote, but I'm almost to the point where I'd vote for Mickey Mouse.  I hate both candidates.

In the interest of everything at stake this year, I'm going to be extremely honest.

How much did most of you pay in taxes last year?  How much did you get back?

Bush's tax cuts favor two groups:  The Haves and the Have Mores.  Eddie & I have, according to U.S. labor statistics, worked our way up to the former group.

In 2002, our combined gross income (not counting bartending income, which I file quarterly & pay my own taxes on) was $69,000.  We got a very nice chell back that year.

Last year, our combined gross income (less bartending) was $92,000.  We got a 4-figure chell back that was almost THREE TIMES what we got the year before.  We have no dependents and one house.  We have no huge tax shelters other than retirement plans, give quite a bit of money to animal welfare charities, but many of the causes we support, such as NARAL, aren't tax-deductible.

This year, due to raises & bonuses, our gross income will be six figures.  Unless tax laws are suddenly changed before 12/31/04 (which they won't be), our refund will be enough to walk into Best Buy, get a 42" HD Plasma TV and have a very nice lunch with the change.

Is this fair?

We should be, if not paying, getting next to nothing back, in my opinion.  I'd like to feel that there is some karmic balance in the number of animals we assist, but that doesn't cancel out the fact that our situation is the norm under this administration.

No, we're not going to give our income away out of guilt.  We WORKED for it and never took a dime from our parents for our education after high school, but we're not the only ones who work hard to get ahead.

Now, Eddie & I are in the low middle income ranges at both of our firms.  Imagine what people we work with drive, live in AND get back from Uncle George.

This is wrong, and one of the many reasons we're voting for Kerry.

I'll never understand why rich people need tax cuts.  FTW?  At least the government gives me enough to go to school or I'd be picketing... well because I'd be too poor to go to school and have nothing else to do with the time.

And Fiero, if you feel that way, at least go out and find people you can support (if only for small offices) and vote for them.  Canidates out of the major two parties find it difficult to get into office because no one does vote for them.  In certain cases, if they don't get enough votes they can't keep running for offices.  Every vote does count.

Well My dad is a have definately. He makes 200k + a year, but still is struggling. Why? Bills, debt, taxes. Sending me to school means he pays an arm and leg in taxes. Plus his job is uncertain, because of Bush's peddling, his company was left 'alone' and was fucked over by the government for 25 Million dollars. So his company was left out that much, while bigger companies snatched up what they needed to be able to bounce back. Now his comapny is waiting for the plug to be pulled, all because his company was screwed over, and tax breaks on larger corps. allow them to do work cheaper, screwing the littler companies. His company of 91 people is now down to three.

So that's one reason I hate Bush ^_^ His economics premote globablism, instead of capitalistic free enterprise.

O, and Bush hates fags, abortion, the enviroment, freedom, and uses fear to hold his powet and set his own agenda.

Excellent point made by Andre Heinz:

Q: What would four more years of Bush mean?

A: It would mean another four years of Americans dragging their asses with respect to modernization. Imagine the rest of the world gets to a level four years from now where they go, OK, we've got huge purchase orders for clean technologies from India and China, the economies of the other countries have grown. America is all of a sudden the one that can provide only the dirty services, only the dirty products.

Georgie Boy's "Yee-haw, I caught SADAAM" act is gonna wear real thin when coutries like Sweden are eating our lunch in the global market.

Unfortunately, as in your dad's case, tom, the expense of a small business can eat up a good income in no time.  My best friend is part-owner of the Meridian, a huge concert club neat the Toyota Center in revitalized downtown Houston and lost a fucking fortune during Super Bowl Week, of all things.  You can't even get in the doors for half the shows, and he figures he'll personally clear maybe $12K this year for his 70+ hour weeks.  Go figure.

Of course, if you don't give 'em tax cuts, they'll just get their financial managers to make sure they have tax-free accounts or some shit.
