Sandra Oh, the winner for best supporting actress, is a native of Nepean which is a subburb of Ottawa where I come from. She is also one of the worst actresses and quite possibly the ugliest person on television.

This whole Brokeback Mountain thing is just rediculous. Where's the pudding?

If it makes the neocons squirm, gay ranchers are good enough for me.

What bothers me isn't the content, it's that Ang Lee's going to get alot of awards out of taking a easy script...and people will *assume* that he's a a good director only for him to pop out another crappy movie...like Hulk...

No they don't.
Brokeback mountain could be the best movie ever produced, but it didn't deserve any of the awards it got for two reasons:
One, It got awards to be PC. "Gay cowboys? WOW! We gotta give that some glitter or Frisco's gonna throw a hissy fit!"
Two: It's only been out like...TWO Months, MAX.

I actually thought people were joking when they first started talking about Brokeback Mountain. It just seemed to be lifted right from that episode of South Park so I didn't take it seriously for awhile, now I just don't give a shit.

As long as a movie beats the release deadline for a particular year, it's eligible.

I'm always annoyed when a straight actor plays a gay character and is automatically given that much more praise for the performance because they're so "different" from the character.  They're ACTORS.  It's their damn JOB to get inside the skin of a character and bring it to life and the casting director's job to find the right performer for the role.  John Lone has never gotten fallen all over for playing straight men.   Alan Rickman, who works tirelessly for Amnesty International, didn't get a nomination for playing a sadistic political interrogator in Closet Land.   How much more "different" can either get?

Oddly enough, Brokeback Mountain has gotten praise from a number of  very conservative reviewers like Christianity Today.  But there's still no pudding.

I like brokeback mountain.  I'll never see it but it makes for great gay jokes whenever someone says they're going to the movies.

Eh, I've never seen the big deal with awards shows.  It's just another event where people are rewarded for popularity instead of objectively on skill.  I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain, but even if it is the best movie of the year, I highly doubt when I do see it that it'll live up to half of the damn hype.  "OMG, there were never gay cowboys before."

And her name's "Geena Davis", with two e's.

Geena Davis needs a solid rogering from yours truly...but I would settle for adult film star desiree cousteau.
