Title: Just saw 'Hostel'...
Post by: Extra Zero on Jan 07, 2006, 12:54:15 AM
It was a much better film than 'Cabin Fever', and a bit better than I was expecting.  It takes quite awhile to get started, but they do a good job setting up the plot--although there is a sex-overload in the first third of the film, which is a stark contrast to the rest of the film.  I can't remember one scene in the first third that didn't have sex or nudity.

Eli Roth does a good job of creating a tense movie, but he likes to create tense moments that lasted too long--which makes the movie somewhat frustrating...  It's not much of a gore-fest, but it is graphic.   My friends who saw it with me forgot that it was low-budget horror film by today's standards.  The imagery created was indeed disturbing, it's no Mikai film (granted he does a great job replicating his sense of humor), but good none-the-less.

I was surprised by the film in the end, and I'd recommend seeing it at least once.  It's a sick movie, more snuff than horror, so if you thought something like 'Saw' was bad, you'll want to avoid this.

Oh yeah and despite the fact that I went to an 11:30 showing, and the nature of this film, there was a stupid bitch who brought her kid to this who sitting infront of us and the kid could have been no older than 5 and he behaved, but still find a babysitter you whore ...  If you didn't want that kind of responsibility, you should have kept your legs closed or put him up for ADOPTION!  JESUS, I swear, the people in this country...

Yeah no way would I show my 4 yr old a bunch of sex and torture. I don't remember if I knew for sure what I saw on tv wasn't real at that age...in fact I'm still trying to fight crime with my nose hairs to this very day even.

Well, I'm not a big believer in people confusing movies and tv with reality...I knew the difference.  However, the way kids are raised these days, who knows.  I all know is that I could see the little shit looking at the screen as a Japanese girl was getting her eye burnt out of the socket with a blow-torch while being raped...

What was funny was all the kids brought to Boat Trip. That movie was definately not for kids, and the parents were dumbfucks not to realize a movie about a gay cruise would have alot of penis in it.

Yeah.  I knew the difference, too.  I think it's definetely in the way a kid is raised.  Most of them know you can't fly off the roof as Superman.  A kid who feels worthless, or who's on drugs, or who doesn't care though, or who has parents retarded enough to take him to "Hostel" is not disuaded from trying anyway.

I actually had a similar talk about kids and inappropriate movies with a co-worker.  I still remember to this day being a little kid and in the room while my parents saw "Fatal Attraction".  Sex scenes in movies have always made me a bit uncomfortable, and I think that dirty feeling that I was watching something grossly inappropriate for my age plays a huge part in it to this day.  Not with just that film, but that's one of the ones I remember.  Though I liked the violence of R-rated movies as a kid, the sexual content always bothered me.

There's a difference between seeing inevitabilites and seeing things at a comfortable age to understand them.  Horror movies and their imagery was also very disturbing to me as a child.  I never saw Freddy, or Jason, or Hellraiser or any of that.  Stuff that I can watch now harmlessly would've given me countless nightmares back then.  Amusingly, it wasn't my parents that prevented me from watching any it either.  I knew what those movies would do to me, and left the room.  Frankly, I'm grateful I had the foresight to do so.  I didn't give a damn and still don't if that makes me a pussy or a wimp.  I was the one that had to worry about me being able to sleep at night.

And I will not be watching Hostel on account that I just find it appalling.  IFC showed a clip, and the preview was just a vile piece of garbage.  I see no reason in the world why I would pay movie admission and deal with douches on their cellphones, just to see what looks like a lot of blood and torture.  I can imagine worse for free.

And I did see Saw and I liked it.  (Not like-like, but in the way one could like such a film.)  But I had already read spoilers and I borrowed it from my cousins, so I saw it for free.
