Title: motherFUCK, this is getting frustrating!!!
Post by: Bernie AKA on Oct 26, 2005, 12:44:00 PM
I have:

$2500 sitting in the bank for a down payment

a pre-approved loan from my credit union

the car I want picked out online with the spec sheet and stock number sitting on my desk

Carmax gets the same commission regardless of which car they sell - the price is not an issue.

So who the HELL do I have to sleep with for a Carmax sales rep to have time to talk to me??!!!  I sent an e-mail yesterday, left a message this morning and finally spoke to a human who said he would call me back in a few minutes. That was 3 hours ago.

If I didn't want this particular car so bad, I'd blow them off, but it's a green Toyota Echo, stick, low miles AND located in Maryland so the chances of it being a Katrina casualty are next to none.  There are no 2005 Echos left in a 5-state area since they're being totally redesigned in 2006, so I have to go used.

Anyone else ever deal with Carmax?

Oddly enough, it's me.  Sorry for the wait, but I've been a little behind schedule lately

A turtle man with a green car....the irony.

Fuck that Carmax  clown with a splintery flagpole.  I'm going to test drive a 2001 Corolla in town with lower mileage that costs less tonight.

It just annoyed me so much because I'm nice to people in retail and service jobs.  I mean really nice.  Even when I make a complaint, I tell the person I'm speaking with that I'm not blaming thm personally and "please/thank you" them all over the place.  I've been there - most of them deserve courtesy and respect.  I had done 90% of the Carmax guy's work for him with pre-approved financing and specific cars in that price range chosen - all he had to do was pick up the phone, get the car transferred here and give me the papers to sign when it arrived.  If he's too damn lazy to do that or give it to someone else to do, he should get out of that job.  There are too many people willing to work who need it.

When I first saw this thread and the word Carmax, I thought you were getting pissed at lip balm or something.

No, Carmex has never done me wrong.  I have a tin frolicking somewhere in the bottom of my purse right now.

I called another location (we have 4) and got someone with a totally different attitude.  If all goes well, I'll have a blue 2002 Echo on the way this weekend and will finally have a car built in the current decade. :)   It's hard to find a newer used car with manual transmission - apparently not many people drive stick anymore.

Would you expect a cave man to go back to eating wolly mammoth raw after discovering fire? That's why it's so hard to find a standard. They should only put Standard Transmission on high end sports cars now days.

I can sum up my preference for manual transmission in two words: push starts.

Retarded, but happy.  :D I just faxed back the transfer order, and should have an Indigo Pearl 2002 Toyota Echo here in a couple of weeks.  Just in time, apparently, as my ancient Zephyr is sitting here in the parking garage refusing to engage any gear but reverse.

I love nosy people - someone  was asked why I was smiling at the fax machine, so I told her and got an incredulous, "You're financing a $10,000 used car instead of paying cash?"  Well yeah, Ms. Dumps, I am.  Crabtwat would probably shit herself if she knew  I actually had to SAVE for the down payment.  <_<

I prefer to deal with dealerships...

Well, if I'd wanted a make of car from one of the dealerships my agency writes, I could have gotten it for invoice plus zero financing, but we don't write any Toyota dealerships.  Or if there had been a 2005 Echo left at a dealership in a five-state radius, but there isn't.  I'm stubborn.
