Is it related to FLCL or something totally new?
-
God I hope not...
-
Gunbuster as in mecha anime?
-
Both are produced by GAINAX, so they share a lot of the same staff, including the director and character designer. Storywise, they're completely unrelated. It's also worth mentioning that like most OAV/OVA series, it's being released at an extremely relaxed pace, so while the first episode came out late last year, the finale probably won't show up until sometime next summer.
-
Have I ever mentioned how I hate that sort of release schedule?
-
I remember downlaoding an episode last year and never watching it... I really should get around to that.
Anyway....

I DO NOT KNOW BUT I SAW HIM ON STARCRAFT ONCE.
Hey, interesting sidenote. Bandai has condemed Gundam in America. ^^
-
Gundam would be good if the damn robots talked.

Fool, did you not see SD Gundam? The Gundams there talked and it was FAR from good...

Hey, interesting sidenote. Bandai has condemed Gundam in America. ^^
What is the meaning of this statement? Are you saying that Bandai believes Gundam shows, games, and merchandise are no longer viable in the American market? If so, please direct me to the site where you learned of this.
-
Do you really want to be directed to Tom pulling statements out of his ass?
-
I'm thinking this particular nugget came from somewhere else.

o.o
My news comes from Chris of the MAHQ.net website, where I serve as staff. Information?
Treatment of Gundam Seed, the resignation of Jerry Chu, and now the closing of GOUF. Basically Bandai isn't wasting any more money on Gundam in America, especially after the fan backlash against Gundam Seed Destiny. The GOUF (Gundam Official User Forum) while 'fan-run', was owned and supervised by Bandai, and Bandai has decided they can't release Destiny stateside on any network due to bad merchandise sales and poor ratings for Gundam Seed.

Honestly, the problems Bandai has had with Gundam has been its very marketing. Hell, the merchandise problem? They oversaturated the market with crappy SD Gundam figures (a release which breezes through the entire series in three weeks is not going to sell 27 different types of merchandise packaging), battle scarred MSiAs (Gundam Actionfigures that look like they have been microwaved), and even the lack of any real Gundam DVDs aside from Gundam Seed and F91. MSG has been floundered, Zeta's a boxset only, and the various others are very hard to find.
Or you can go by an official note from Mark Simmons...
GOUF -- or any company-owned forum -- exists only to support the needs of the company. With the demise of Gundam merchandise in North America, there was no business-related purpose in Bandai America, Inc. retaining a public forum for Gundam fans. Therefore, the plug was pulled.
Those who frequent toy stores shouldn't be surprised; over the last six to nine months the stocks of Gundam merchandise have been drying up at an astonishing rate. Without toys on the market, there was no company-related purpose in maintaing GOUF; it became a waste of already scarce resources.
Bandai exists to make a profit. Things which help it do so are worth keeping. Things that do not help it make a profit get cut.
It's what they call "business".
Eitherway... Gundam's been killed because Bandai America sucks at marketing. G Gundam was the true deathknell for it. Bad Voice acting, breezing through the series, and over saturation of the merchandise. Wow.
-
G Gundam being my favorite of the American-released Gundam programs.
-
Oh, G Gundam is awesome, but the way it was handled was fucked up.
The dub was awful. The series was rushed through on CN, which only worked for Wing. But with Wing, the aired it twice a day at a time when Toonami was the shit for kids, and they replayed the series like 5 times. The figures were thrown onto the market without an order to them. Figures were even released after the series wasn't on air.
Lame.
-
Is G Gundam the one with the canadian gundam? The one we were all saying was Joe.
-
Haha...
G Gundam was my favorite as well. The Japanese seiyuu must have been wicked to the extreme, because I didn't think the dub actors were bad at all. What was the problem? Did they make the dialogue way hammier than it should have been? I think the reason I liked the series so much was because it never took itself too seriously.
Damn. I'm no Gundam maniac, but this is kind of crappy. What happens to all the unreleased series now? Nothing?

Probably straight to DvD.
And my problem with the voice acting was that there were no accents. Everyone sounded alike. There was no soul to any of the characters, no likability of the dub voices. The Japanese ones rocked. x.x
Thankfully it was Sabat Free.

Am I the only one horrendously bored by most of the Gundam stuff? G Gundam was the only one I could watch most of. Even Wing got all blah at the end. Nothing that's come out since G Gundam has even made me the littlest bit curious, let alone want to watch it and buy merchandise.
-
You wouldn't say that if you had seen Gundam X. It featured animated characters, were they had actual expressions similar to other animes. It also did not hash the same damn plot that basically every other series had. The purpose of Gundam X was an ex-Gundam pilot, scarred by war, seeking out other psychics like himself to protect them from the military exploting and mind raping them.
Add Garroad, the token 15 year old who manages to actually be one of the best conceived Gundam pilots ever, and Gundam developers that actually design the Gundam with a security system so not every Heero and Kira can just hop in it's cockpit and pilot the damn thing.
^_^
-
I wanted to slap the both of them.
-
Who the heck is Kira?!?
-
At least no more angsty whiny teenager powered Gundams. those Wing dudes should've been dead Sixteen times over dammit.
-
Who the heck is Kira?!?
Kira is the main, fucked up character of Gundam Seed and GS Destiny. In the first he's a whiney punk who is invincible, and in GSD he's a bitch who's invincible. Eitherway, fuck a Kira.
Now Garroad was all man. And he got his ass kicked constantly.
-
Yeah, not the Bajoran from DS9 with the Jane Child nose chain.
-
DS9 was friggin' awesome.
