Besides the show my pic came from, which most of you have seen... I'd recommend....
Elfen Lied
A teenage boy and his female cousin find a naked girl at the beach with long red hair and horns on her head that look like cat ears. She had just escaped from a secret lab. So they take her home. It seems she suffers from mutiple personality. During the day she has a 'chii' personality: she knows dick about real life like she was born yesterday, and the only word she says is "Nyo". During the night, she's a homocidal maniac named Lucy, with telekenetic powers and a fetish of turning people into sliced ham.
This is the bloodiest, goriest thing I've seen this year, and it's worth it just for the massive amount of blood spraying around like a bad hong-kong flick. There's also quite a bit of "chobits"-style fanservice. Retard girl gets in compromising situation with boy, another girl walks in and kicks his ass. Also, the female cousin seems to be a typical emo japanese schoolgirl and whines or cries a lot or takes her anger out on her male cousin. She also has a crush on him and wants him to fondle her boobs and shit.
The anime cliches bug the hell out of me, but the excessive violence makes up for it. For an example of how bloody it can get, there's a scene in the beginning with one of those ditzy clutzy females, she falls over and finds herself between Lucy and a bunch of guards. So what does Lucy do? She lops the girl's head off and uses her body for a shield to block the bullets while she dismembers the guard's bodies. Flawless Victory!

It's a show. I saw the DVD at Suncoast. On the front rack. Near the entrance. Right next to GITS: Second Gig. And I wanted to wash GITS and hug it.

I've been getting Elfen Lied off Netflix, and the third volume should be in the mailbox today. If nothing substantial happens, I may be dropping it from my pull list...it just doesn't really do anything for me. But if violence and gore is your bag and you want more, make sure you watch Gantz.
Azumanga Daioh collection came out yesterday, and I've got it ordered. You are hereby cordially commanded to buy, watch, and love this show. Make sure you have all of GITS:SAC, too. I'm growing to like Planetes the more I watch it, and Genshiken=teh win.

If you guys aren't going to bother with my suggestions, I guess I won't suggest Monster then. I won't mention that it's a pretty good drama/mystery/thriller show from the studio that made Master Keaton.
It's probably not good enough anway, someone I talked to passed it up for MaiHiME, because HiME has jiggly boobs, magical girls, fanservice, and mecha, and Monster doesn't.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex (http://forums.shwiggie.com/index.php?showtopic=1497) is one of the better anime series I've yet seen...and it's a good intro for non-anime sci-fi fans, too. I just got the first volume of the second season in yesterday, so we've got another 26 eps headed our way soon.
And if you haven't seen Macross Zero (http://forums.shwiggie.com/index.php?showtopic=1669) yet, what are you waiting on?
I'm looking forward to seeing the new Ah! My Goddess series. Maybe they'll finally do this property right in animation.

Monster was a great read. Anything by Naoki Urasawa is gold. Hopefully he'll tie up 20th Century Boys in the next couple of years so that they can animate that as well.
I think I got about halfway through Mai-Hime before stalling out. Same with Ah! My Goddess, Bakuretsu Tenshi, Madlax, and Tactics. They've been sitting on my hard drive since long before they were licensed.
Lately I've just been watching raws. If I really like a series, I'll buy it when it's licensed, as it's released. Otherwise I'll just grab the series box set later on.
Right now I'd say Basilisk: Koga Ninpo Cho is the best new series of 2005, and I doubt anything in the October flood will top it.

As hot as Alica Witt is....I just can't sit through that movie. At least I didn't spend money on it. Someone got it for me for Christmas like six years ago. I can only guess that they thought I was into that whole teeny slasher shit that was everywhere back then. Course I think this was the same person that gave me a hacky sack one year too.

but it's soooooooo bad. Worse then House on Haunted Hill and 13 Ghost combined. Plus it has the now has been Rebecca Gayheart in it and it's just more then I can bare. And I even like shitty TV and movies. I regualrly sit through not one, but many episodes of Power Rangers and go out of my way to track down old Serials from the 30s and 40s and even with that love of cheese I still cannot watch the whole thing.

I can't watch a movie just because an actress is hot...I just can't. My friend REALLY wanted to see Dark Water because he has a huge hard-on for Jennifer Connely, despite everything I told him about how bad the movie was he still saw it...and sat through the whole thing because he thought I was lying about there being no wet t-shirt scene.

Hey I liked David Lynch's DUNE, I actually own that as well. Course I'm a whore for anything with DUNE on it. God, I love that book.
And I love the Rocketeer. It's one of my top ten movies and one of the few things apart from Tron that I actually liked that came out of Disney's "Live action" department. Now we just get crap like Ice Princess.

The Rocketeer was one of the last movies I saw in theaters while I was a kid and is one of the few movies I have memories of seeing (we had some lean years during my childhood so my folks didn't take me to movies often). So finding a DVD of the movie a few months ago in Suncoast split my happy ass laterally in half. It's just a really fun little movie, and I was surprised that it aged as well as it had.

I LOVED the casting in Dune, much more so than the Sci-Fi channel version. Loved the fact that Kyle Mc Lachlan read & re-read Dune as obsessivly as I did. The cut-up version that hit the theatre had gaps aplenty and the rainstorm at the end of the movie had us all going WTF? I wish David Lynch could have done a nice extended TV version because I liked his interpretation up to that point, but I think screwing with the ending was required by the backers. "History will call us wives" is a bit underwhelming for 1980's Hollywood.

You should chell out the Director's cut of DUNE then.....the rainstorm is still at the end (Which didn't get a WTF from me when I first saw it cause I saw DUNE way back in 1980 something when I was still reading Golden Books....So I didn't know any better.), but there are some changes to it. It was actually BECAUSE of Lynch's Dune that I went and checked out Dune from my local library and I have been hooked on all things DUNE ever since. I've actually thought about stealing the Library's copy of the DUNE encylopidea because it's been out of print for so long and it really hard to come by, but I couldn't bring my self to steal from a Library. A Wal-mart....yeah, but not a library.
I liked the SCI-FI Mini-series too, but they both got stuff wrong. What was funny about that was they each got different stuff wrong. Lynch's Still suits where spot on, but they didn't wear the masks or the robes over it. In the Sci-Fi one they wore the masks and robes but now they where kinda offwhite and nothing like the ones in the book. That's just one example of many.

Yes you can....but only in the used book section and you have to pay an arm and leg for it. In fact the paperpack version sells for 35 bucks on Amazon.

The one the Library has is the hardcover which fetches even higher prices. From 45-75 bucks.
The story behind this is that the book has not been in print for a very long time, because Frank Herbert's son has put a stop to any future printings of this book. His reason being is that he totally rewrote the history of DUNE with his DUNE Prequel books that he wrote with Kevin J. Anderson. So he doesn't want any other "offical" book out there contradicting what he wrote, even if that book was written first.

I watched the Sci-Fi channel sequel last week, which was a meshing of Dune Messiah & Children of Dune. Not too bad, except Alia was reduced from tormented abomination to petulant bitch. Also saw the new season of Doctor Who, thanks to a friend with a Region 3 player. All bad memories of rubber monsters and hokey aliens have been purged by top-notch writers and effects, plus this Doctor kicks ass, kisses the girl and has a bisexual companion. Why BBC America passed it up and picks up dredge like Footballer's Wives is beyond me. <_<

I rented Elfen Lied dvd two.
What I liked about this series from the beginning was the spontaneous and random gratuitous violence. But that seems to be pushed to the side for "filler", which is comprised of fanservice, incest, and emo whining and bullshit. The Japanese must need buckets of prozac because it seems half the series I see, the women whine, bitch, and cry too much, and the males are pussies.
I hope the show's going to speed up more and not become another Ceres Celestial Legend. That anime became a shoujo emofest before half the series was over.
I just figured out that Nana's everyday life (http://manga.clone-army.org/nana.php) is based off of one of the characters of Elfen Lied.
Oh, and before I post this, I heard rumors of a new Hellsing OVA.

Don't hate me for not being in love with Benny Hill or Monty Python, but I need other things. I had to rely on IFC to give me a British dose with a version of Austen's Persuasion. Hot damn, I know the British make other things. I thought I'd like What Not To Wear, but the state-side version is much better. If only it were a half-hour like the British version... and less whored-out. I saw those ladies on Oprah once, and man, are they bitches. The busty one is kinda fun to watch but come on... They believe nobody over a size ten should wear jeans... or shorts. The fuck? Would a muu muu make you crumpet-eaters happy?
Footballers Wives... gah. I saw about a minute of that since I was curious about NY-Lon and my timer records a minute early. "We found an ovary and a fallopian tube in your infant son." "Bloody 'ell!!!" What trash. As for NY-Lon, you'd think a trans-Atlantic love story would be far more interesting, but they managed to stack it just the same. That boob I saw in the beginning of the episode was probably the best part.

Eddie loves MP, which is why I gave him the 14-DVD set for Xmas one year. Same with Fawlty Towers & Black Adder. Most hard-core fans have done the same because of all the extras on the DVDs. I have Are You Being Served and AbFab practically memorized. So show SOMETHING ELSE already!! :angry: The Wooster & Jeeves series with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie is hysterical. Blake's 7 & the Tomorrow People were fun. There are so many possibilities it's ridiculous.

If BBC ever does pick up Doctor Who, you'll love one of the episodes. Players are picked by lottery, and losers are disintegrated, but the equally-bitchy WNTW droids get pwn3d. :lol:

War Planets: Friggin' love it. Proof that CGI and Storytelling DO GO TOGETHER, despite what recent Toon Trash has shown. I'd forgotten how much I really did enjoy that show.
Andromeda: I like the show, but I'm waiting to watch the DVD's until after my mum watches'em, since I got them for her to begin with.
Azumanga Daioh: LOVE IT.
ALSO. I got something extra shipped with my DVD's. I didn't get charged for it, but something called "Generator Gawl" got put in. Any good?

The new series should start up after the Valentine brothers are defeated and pick up on the Millenium storyline from the manga, which was abandoned in the anime since the manga hadn't gotten that far yet. I still haven't figured out why they can't wait until there's sufficient material to worth with before trying to adapt it to animation....
In any case, the new series involves the manga-ka and is being partially bankrolled by Geneon, who did the North American release. Given their stability in the past concerning VAs, I figure Freeman and Harwood will be locks in the English adaptation.
Azumanga Daioh: LOVE IT.
Score. I was slightly disappointed in the Thinpak release (stripped down menus and even fewer extras), but the series itself makes up for it.

I never saw it, so I can't say. There are some who really loved it, but most people said meh. My understanding is that it was an interesting concept for a show but was mediocre all-around with a very unfaithful English adaptation.

Certainly looks like the animation will be better - thanks! :D I've also heard rumour, which I hope is true, that a third prequel OVA is in the planning stages which will concentrate on Walter & Alucard during WWII up to Alucard's confinement. Young Walter.... :wub: True about Geneon & VAs, and I know Freeman loved playing Alucard. Considering that Harwood has been billed at cons as the voice of Integra and that she agreed to even DO a con in the first place, I have hopes for her as well. She's in Texhnolyze, but I don't know of anyone else who's even seen it. :mellow:

An anime I can't imagine recommending has to be Stelliva. It's like Harry Potter in space, but Harry Potter doesn't suck. I'm bored with it already.
