The angry mother of a fallen U.S. soldier staged a protest near President Bush's ranch Saturday, demanding an accounting from Bush of how he has conducted the war in Iraq.

Supported by more than 50 demonstrators who chanted, "W. killed her son!" Cindy Sheehan told reporters: "I want to ask the president, 'Why did you kill my son? What did my son die for?"'

Sheehan, 48, didn't get to see Bush, but did talk about 45 minutes with national security adviser Steve Hadley and deputy White House chief of staff Joe Hagin, who went out to hear her concerns.

She said Hagin told her, "I want to assure you that he (Bush) really does care."

"And I said if he does care, why doesn't he come out and talk to me."

It's true. Why aren't they serving? At least medieval kings sent their children into battle...

Maybe he can't come out and talk to them because he's AT THE WHITE HOUSE (or somewhere else).

You mean he wouldn't come outside and face down fifty people crying for his blood...I wonder why he stayed inside?

Nobody goes outside in central Texas in August unless they have to.  Obviously, he doesn't feel he has to.

That's a good point.  If there's no work or school I'm pretty much in like a hibernating bear.

I'm also reminded of when my parents wanted to have a birthday party for me outside.  I was very young at the time, but even then my strongest memory was something along of the lines of "but it's hot.  what the fuck for?"

I had one.  I think I was eight, and we all ended up back inside anyway.  Never again.
