4) What three things can most likely DECREASE their chances of getting accepted?

1. Drawings or paintings copied from photographs.

2. Work that tells us nothing about the personality of the artist.

3. Even ONE piece of anime

Luffie feels rejected now. :(

Well the Japanese look on Americans that try to create anime, with just about as much contempt as Art schools do when you try to submit it as part of your portfolio.

Besides, it's all become rather cliche now.

Art school is a scam. There isn't anything being taught in an art school that you couldn't get either online or from a book. However art school is a easy way to get a college degree. Assuming you could pay the tuition of course.

It happens.  Learning all the "rules" and shit ruins some people.

Nothing like forcing creativity into a set of guidelines and rules.

I think Faye would prefer that drawings are done with feet or something.

It's from a Red Dwarf episode.  Along with the performance of "Tongue Tied", one of Danny John-Jules' finest moments.

The whole scene was beyond surreal, even for the Dwarf.

Its so true, back when I got accepted to SCAD the professors noted that they loved that I didnt draw any anime.
Its too bad I was too poor to actually enroll.

SCAD = Savannah College of Art and Design ??

I remember that school being whored to us back when I was a graphic arts major, but also thinking I couldn't afford it.  All of these places wanting porfolios threw me for loop.  I didn't know where to begin in constructing one (and I still don't know).

I think it's a form of discrimination.  Unfortunately at the time I began college, anime began to have a greater influence in my stuff.  One professor asked all of us to bring something we drew the first day of class, so I brought in a character I designed.  He accused me of "ripping" off anime, though he didn't name anything specifically.  I doubt he could because I didn't rip off shit.  A guy in that class drew the Simpsons (not Simpsons-like, THE Simpsons) and **nothing** was said about his piece.  After class, that guy even said he felt sorry that I got singled out like that while he was passed over.  It was obvious that professor was a hater.  If he didn't want any cartoony sorts of things brought in, he should've said so.  It's like 101 people can rip off Bugs Bunny, but if I use a couple of frilly anime-like eyeballs I've suddenly robbed Clamp's secret cache.  Goddamn, it still pisses me off to this day.

I've thought about drawing in an anime-ish style, but now I'm not so sure...

...I guess we can blame every wapanese fucker who wants to be a bigger otaku by drawing anime, learning japanese, cosplaying in real life, and basically being the biggest, stupidest geek in the entire universe.

Why not?  Try it.  I think people should try all sorts of things in art.
