I applied for a Job at a Hobbytown USA opening up in town in about a week or so. Really excited at the prospect of working at a place that isn't really retail and has lots of stuff that's nifty. I'm crossing my fingers in anticipation, hoping really hard...
THen, come to find out, the Older Bro wants to submit an application there too.
SON OF A BITCH.
He dropped out of college this semester for whatever bullshit reason, and has been out of work for...like...two or so months. He's an asshole, and has only applied once at Comp USA and isn't following up on it AT ALL, despite the fact he knows a guy that works there.
Now, I'm thinking...He does have qualifications to work at aHobby store, since all he ever fucking does at home is sit in his stanky room (It STINKS cause I swear he never BATHES.) painting little warcraft miniatures and shit, he has cashiers experience....But He's doubly qualified to work at CompUSA with all it's computery stuff, which he's good with.
Now, I'm figuring the Pay for CompUSA would be better, there might be more benefits, and it sure as hell would be better to work with someone you know rather than a bunch of people you wouldn't..
So I KNOW for a fact he's only applying there because I applied there, and he doesn't want it the situation where "His Little brother has a job whereas he, at 23, does not". And what really burns me is that he is more qualified, experience wise, than myself. He's worked at three other places, while all I do is bust my ass selling trading cards at campus and work twice as hard as he does at everything at home.
I know I'm more reliable than him, I know I can work ten times as hard as him, and I know I won't be a total screw up like him, but god damn it if he does submit that application and actually SNAGS that job over me, I swear I might just put him in traction. Seriously. Nobody in this household would bust my balls over it.
-
Just knife him in his sleep and be over with it.
-
>_> I'm not that evil. Knifing in the back is too underhanded for me.
-
Okay, in the front then.
-
If you know who he put as personal references on his application tell them that if Hobbytown calls they should say that he'd only be working that job until one he really wants comes up and that he dropped out recently so he might not be too reliable on a long-term basis. And then they could mention that his younger yet much more reliable brother also applied and really wants the job.
-
Or you could knife him.
-

Thass the thing. He WON'T Drop out of it. He'll keep it so as to keep Dad off his ass about getting a job. BY TAKING MY JOB. My potential job. The Job I really want.
-
Really, the best you could do is just apply and hope the better man gets the job.
-
Or have a phantom order up a clone army, give them to the Jedi to use, then when the Jedi are nice a comfortable, have the clones kill the Jedi, kill your pregnant wife, then bring order to the Galaxy through fear. I don't see how it could possibly go wrong.
-
Tom, just shut up. Just, stuff it in your James Earl Jones Voice filter and shut up.
-
Somebody is alittle too excited about St*r WarzzZZ.
-

The point is getting his references to say he'd quit. Who gives a crap if it's true or not. The employer will just toss his app out when he hears that. And if they recommend you it'd be a big plus in your column. And if you don't know his references you could always make the call yourself if you really think Hobbytown is considering hiring him. And also just calling and going over there to ask about your application and let them know how much you want the job will go a long way. Then again it's not like I have a job so what's my advice worth?
-

*uses the filter to mask his giggles*
-

Yeah what Nuri said. I had that happen to me before, not with my sis but someone I knew.
-
Oh bullocks. If this drops out I can always try the outlet stores.
-
you would be a good bouncer
-
Dude, I sure as hell wouldn't pull any shit if you're bouncing a club I was attending. You're fucking mean looking, in my mind's eye. Plus, you can get tatoos to match your bouncer buddies.
-
I look so much more intimidating than Emerid.
-
Does E have muscle? If not, then fuck it and just work at a Game Stop.
-
>_> Gamestop? You're kidding right? Nooo thank you. Yardbirds, maybe.
-
One of my cousins is a bouncer and he got a gun pulled on him once. Somebody died in that incident I think. Merla knows about it better than I.
-
My Mom's friend's brother was killed outside a nightclub because some gay guy was harassing a girl who hit on his boyfriend, and when the brother left the club, he opened up his stomach and kicked his face in.
What is sad is, the guy gets out in two months. The mother is livid, and will probably call a hit out on him, their Italian.
-
he opened up his stomach and kicked his face in?? WHAT???
like, what????? face IN the stomach???? huh??
-
....
Yes.
-
I'm going to apply at YardBirds, Winco Foods, and Nugget Marketplace, methinks.
-
I'm going to apply at YardBirds, Winco Foods, and Nugget Marketplace, methinks.
Your area has some queer names for places.
-
 Yeah, no shit.
-
I'll third that.
-
I don't care what they're named, as long as they're willing to PAY ME.
-
You'll care when they're paying you in nuggets and cr0n.
-
You'll care when they're paying you in nuggets and cr0n.
You just reminded me that E lives kind of out in the country, right?
-
I think so. There COULD be urban emus, I suppose.
-
I think so. There COULD be urban emus, I suppose.
I don't know why, but the thought of an emu farm in the middle of a busy city is cracking me the hell up.
-
coould be cause of...marihuana??
-
....Yeah I live out in the boonies....
-
I think so. There COULD be urban emus, I suppose.
I don't know why, but the thought of an emu farm in the middle of a busy city is cracking me the hell up.
It could happen. I'm sure you've seen "Pretty Woman"....
-
I do not remember that part at all.
-
Yeah, most people don't.
-
I saw a paid internship for a webdesigner at some company. Most of the skills they expect, knowing HTML, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Visio, Excel, Word are things I know, but they also perfer you to know XML, and I've never touched that.
I think I'll throw in a resume anway. It's $12-15 an hour if I get it, part time.
-
*impressed whistle*

i did some promo for jose cuervo and they paid me 40 bucks an hour.
-
Winco Called me today, Want an interview for a graveyard shift position.
-
Don't do it. You'll just get eaten by rats.
-
10pm to 8am, $9.20 an hour, 20-40 work hours a week. Unloading Freight basically.
If nothing better comes up...

haha, dock boy!
-
It's at Winco. There's no DOCK FOR A HUNDRED MILES!!
-

The dock where the trucks dock.

No you can't!
You'll be making more than me. =(
-
And me, shit!
-
But that is hard labor, and all at night.
-
Yep. Is it strange that I'm so positive about it?
-
No, because it's hard labor and all at night. Can you do hard all night? CAN YOU?
*snicker*
-
*sgiggle*
-
Ohhh Yeah.
-
XML doesn't seem hard. It's like HTML but you make your own tags and define them in a header file.
Other jobs that look promising are a job as a porter at a cab company. Sure it pays $10, you park cars, do minor maintence on them, but you have to clean them too and I hope I don't have to clean puke out of them or something.
There's also jobs available at the local library for $8-$15, but some of their jobs require.. get this.. a "masters degree".
-
I noticed that too since I go peek over at the city job listings just to see if there's anything I'd like to apply for. "Master's Degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university with major coursework in Library Science". FTW. Maybe for the head librarian or whatever but this is for a lower position, like two tiers from being a leading librarian and the position right above the clerical staff.
Essential Job Functions
# Assists the general public with information regarding library materials and equipment;
# Participates in library committee work;
# Reviews assigned media for books and library materials and selects materials on the basis of established criteria and the needs of the users;
# Promotes use of the library by the community;
# Answers reference questions and performs readers' advisory services;
# Prepares and presents programs regarding library services and materials to various age groups;
# Maintains work records and prepares reports;
# Analyzes, evaluates, and selects materials;
# Prepares original cataloging copy for non-specialized materials;
# Solves routine classification and cataloging problems;
# Reconciles differences in bibliographic records;
# Trains clerical staff in acquisition policies, procedures, and operation of various automated systems;
# Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Somebody needs to a master's to do this shit? It just sounds excessive to me.
-
I dunno, Analyzing things would be hard for most people. Cause the majority of the planet is t3h stupid.
-
$9.20 isnt enough for those hours i think, do they pay a shift differential?
I work from 4am to whenever at target and I get an extra 1.50 for working so early.
Which actually isnt that much more than you, as Im making about $9.35 total, but I dont do any heavy lifting, just really putting up dvds and such.
-
IT starts at I think 8.75 with a 50 cent differential...
-
*sgiggle*
I second that. Mwhahahhaha!!!!!
-
I'm this close to applying at Bed, Bath, & Beyond just to see if they'd hire me...
-
I'm this close to applying at Bed, Bath, & Beyond just to see if they'd hire me...
FA-G-OTT!
-
Now now, the PC term is 'Metrosexual'
-
No the term is "Desperate for money."
-
I'm getting a job at the IRS.
-
How much is the pay?
-
About $16 an hour with full Government Health Benefits. It's an internship, mind you--so I'll be well on my way to an actual career.
-
I'm getting a job at the IRS.
i'm getting a job at the UN
-
You all SUCK DAMMIT.
-
I'm this close to applying at Bed, Bath, & Beyond just to see if they'd hire me...
All right, discount!
-
On WHAT? What would I want to buy at Bed, Bath, and BEYOND that I couldn't get at Wal-Mart cheaper?
-
Whatever you do DO NOT ask to see the "Beyond". Took the last guys five years of sliding to finally get it all sorted out, half of them died, one guy got combined with his interdimensional double and became a completely different person, and they got their home world invaded by fugly mutant monkeythings.
-
o_o you watch too much Family Guy.
-
Probably but what does that have to do with anything?
-
to you all people, never buy the liquid soap-Dove. It can fuck up your skin.
There, I can go to heaven now
-
Really? I think that's what the girl told me to use when I got my lip pierced.
-
nono its in general. i started gettin these little "un-tanned" spots on my arms, and i went to the doctor and he said that liquid soap, especially dove, is very strong for very delicate skin and this is the result.
-
Let's make a list of where I've applied so far and the current status...
Winco Foods
Hobbytown USA
Nugget Marketplace
Yardbirds
Petco
And...
Winco Foods - Hasn't called me back since the Interview last week, so that's probably out the window.
Hobbytown USA - Currently not hiring, so that's out too.
Nugget Marketplace - Have to call back this afternoon, see if I can get a hold of a guy named Eric.
Yardbirds - No phone call
Petco - No phone call, I plan to call'em today.
Places I'm also going to apply for in the near future.
Digger's Deli
Wal-Mart / Sam's Club
Target
Safeway
Big Lots
Gamestop
Michaels
Outlet stores
Kohls (HAHAHAHHA! If I'm really desperate!!)
And a couple more places I can think of, but I'm starting to run out of spots that're local...
-
Avoid Safeway like the plague, E. Kohl's actually isn't too bad, I've never worked there, but you can get started at $10 an hour with health benefits *IF* you're full time and take the right shift... Gamestop I believe has benefits for part-time employees availiable too, so I'd also look into that direction aswell.
-
If you don't mind Starbucks I remember them starting at $9 an hour with benefits for part-timers.
-
I don't think dealing with the addict-like Starbucks customers (/junkies) would be all too fun.
-
Those are the "Backup tryouts". Failing tto get a call back from anyone on the list will force me to try to apply at Starbucks/Safeway...
Also, I've submitted an application to Wal-Mart, and am going to send in my application to Digger's Deli today.
-
Whoa, if the Starbucks is *IN* the Safeway, REALLY avoid it E. I'm not kidding. You aren't even allowed to keep tips there, you have to pay Union dues and you're started at a set rate of $6.00. If you can, find an independent Starbucks to work at, the conditions there will be much, MUCH better. Trust me, a good friend of mine has worked in a Safeway Starbucks for a year, a job I actually got him, and he's only making $6.25, like Fiero said, you'd be making alot more at a regular Starbucks plus you won't be paying those crappy Union dues for benefits you won't see until almost two years. I think the Union initiation fee is something like $50 too...
-
hmmmm Starbucks is soooo goooood
-
I know I've asked this already but what's a Safeway again? Is that like a department store or a grocer?
I think it'd be awesome to work at Petco.
-
Grocery store.
And Petco's hasn't called me back at all.
-
I know I've asked this already but what's a Safeway again? Is that like a department store or a grocer?
I think it'd be awesome to work at Petco.
Fuck that, the guilt of all the animals they don't sell on my head is not pleasant.
-
Submitted the application for Digger's Deli, and filled out an application for Breden Theatre's.
-
My grandmother works at a Petco, and she likes it.
-
>_> I'd probably like it too if they'd call me. I'll probably call'em tuesday, see if there's a job opening.
-
hmmmm Starbucks is soooo goooood
Ick, it's overpriced and it's got a funky aftertaste. @.x
Gimme Seven-11 Coffee. Oh Thank Heaven!
-
I don't like coffee.
-
o.o;
Are you mad?
-
Possibly. Safeway's has an opening in it's bakery department.
-
I don't like coffee either, but the only reason I don't try it is because I drink enough tea and I don't need anything else stainin' me teeth.
-
Yeah, I had teeth whitening done after I graduated from highschool. Now they are the lovely yellow color.
In Heian Japan, black teeth were seen as sexy. White Teeth were seen as disgusting.
-
...Coffee is still nasty.
-
i was dating this guy, hes such a metro! he whitens his teeth like every week, his teeth are whiter than ANYONEEE
-
o.o
That is dangerous, he won't have any enamel.
-
Ahhh let the Bastard's teeth end up as brittle as ..something really brittle.
-
Peanut Brittle?
-
Sure that.
-
It'll be funny, as he screams when he smiles, cuz the air will his nerves on fire, and yet the screaming will encourage more screaming, then boom, one less metro.
-
If he's that obsessive, he'll probably be one of those people that ends up putting a second mortgage on his house (or selling himself for teh sex, whatever) in order to finance porcelin veneers once he's left with little more than Lee Press On Nails covering danglin' nerves.
-
x.x
-
o.o
That is dangerous, he won't have any enamel.
he goes to the tanning salon once a week, and put highlights on his hair too
-
Cancer! Overcompensation!
-
Smells like chicken.
-
Well it's supposed to be pigs. But Metro Sexuals probably do smell like chicken.
-
I knew Tom had a method for separating them from gays.
-
Like pigs? Really? Groovy. Get me some breading and a beaten egg and I'm totally there.
-
Wh-what?
-
I don't know if I should go with potatoes or rice as the side dish though.
-
Lo-mein.
-
Nice! Good idea.
-
I'm quite "metro" you might say. Axe Body Spray.
-
That's not metro, you damn poser.
-
Yeah, spraying Axe on your hairy ass and gut is the opposite of Metro. Carson just fainted. NOW HE IS ON THE FLOOR IN A HUGO BOSS SUIT! SEE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!?
-
o_O To get this de-railed thread back to at least limping on track....
No word from Digger's Deli, Applied at Target and Brenden Theater's. Target's supposed to set up an interview next week sometime.
-
Don't work at Target.
-
Score! Discount!
-
And Brainwashing. Welcome to the... 'team'.
-
Yeah, Tom? Not much choice. I'd take work as the toilet cleaner at a football stadium at this point
-
Yeah, Tom? Not much choice. I'd take work as the toilet cleaner at a football stadium at this point
I believe they only give that job to people with leprosy.
-
No, football stadium bathrooms are for those who WANT leprosy.
They give those who already have it the job of cleaning gas station bathrooms.
-
Work at a drugstore as a cashier.
-
Work at a drugstore as a cashier.
I'm not sure if this would be better or worse than wal-mart. You'd have a much smaller area to hide from the hickss and lard-os.
-
psht you all people don't know how to do it right.
just put that you work in ireland, england or somewhere in europe as a reference and thats it! they won't chell it and they'd obviously prefer you
-
:: bites own thumb ::
-
"Yes, and I've spent four years as a nuclear physicist in Luxembourg."
"Okay, I see. And after that... you worked... at... Long John Silver's?"
"Yeah, well, after one my more dangerous targets eluded me as a professional pygmy hunter in Romania, I had to lay low."
-
O_o I like the honest approach...
-
sometimes honesty dont get you anywhere. the most powerful people in the world are dishonest. you are just gonna get stomped over
-
Yeah but even if I was dishonest, I still wouldn't have a job right now.
-
sometimes honesty dont get you anywhere. the most powerful people in the world are dishonest. you are just gonna get stomped over
I never said I wanted to be one of those fuckers.
-
Same here.
-
sometimes honesty dont get you anywhere. the most powerful people in the world are dishonest. you are just gonna get stomped over
I never said I wanted to be one of those fuckers.
Those people can't get off without fucking 12 year old Thai Boys. Or cutting their bodies up until they look like skelator or a cathcers mitt. Who wants to be like that?
-
sometimes honesty dont get you anywhere. the most powerful people in the world are dishonest. you are just gonna get stomped over
I never said I wanted to be one of those fuckers.
i wasn't talking to you, i was talking to E
-
o_o I might get some work at a raceway event. Again.
-
WOOHOO!! I JUST GOT HIRED BY FEDEX!!! I take the picture for my I.D. badge tomorrow and start training next Wednesday!! :tom: :D :tom:
-
u mean you got Hired?
-
Yeah, WTF duder?
-
you see I am half retarded and when you're half retarded you do things like that.
-
WOOHOO!! I JUST GOT HIRED BY FEDEX!!! I take the picture for my I.D. badge tomorrow and start training next Wednesday!! :tom: :D :tom:
Are you going to wear brown hot pants and deliver to lonely housewives?
-
No, that's UPS. We wear blue hot pants at Fedex.
-
No, that's UPS. We wear blue hot pants at Fedex.
It's almost more stylish.
-
hellz yeah, brown's out
-
hellz yeah, brown's out
I hear moderate dress is coming back to, I hardly see girls wearing little skirts anymore, it's all jeans and t-shirts.
-
I think they finally figured out that dudes take pictures of them and put them on the internet.
-
I think they finally figured out that dudes take pictures of them and put them on the internet.
I think it's more like, "Yeah, I don't wanna be called a skank like my older sister and all her friends, cuz that's just dumb. Like, really."
-
hellz yeah, brown's out
I hear moderate dress is coming back to, I hardly see girls wearing little skirts anymore, it's all jeans and t-shirts.
where do YOU live?? this place is all about mini skirts.
-
It's all jeans and T-shirts in texas.
-
You'll fry if you don't cover up most of the time here. It really creeps me out to see women 5 & 10 years younger than me with that creased papery-looking chicken skin thing going on in the chest area. Why they think anyone wants to see their nasty wrinkly stuff & continue to wear low-cut shirts is beyond me. :x
-
I got an interview at the local anime store. I'm not sure I'll get it as I was interviewed along with a lot of other people. Also, although the job includes travel to conventions, it's a weekend-only job for now. I might have scared her away from me because I said I would want to work more hours than just weekends.
-
You're working at an Otaku hole? Appropriate.
-
Update:
A Regular job has eluded me, but I have become "employed" by a Temp Agency, who fandangled me a job at the Nascar Event last sunday up at Infineon Raceway, and a one day moving accounting records Job this last sunday. Both times Myself and the two others I was working with got high praise, so here's hoping they keep us busy.
-
Good luck! I hope you find something permanent soon, man. Believe me, I know what's it's like to want a job and not be able to find one.
-
I've stopped applying at places because...I've pretty much run out of places to apply at. The problem with Cowtown is the stores are either corporate or Family owned, so either I don't get hired because there's no opening/I'm not qualified or because I'm not related.
