Text is kinda small on my computer but it looks great in mobile. However, it also zaps away our avatars in mobile, which I don't like. Because then I have to read who's typing the reply when I used to just look at the image.

Kiiiiinda fixed avatars in posts on mobile. Kinda. It's sloppy. A testament to my long-rusted css skillz.

I was all, "What even is this?"
Then I closed the tab.
Seems like these days a conversation isn't worth having unless EVERYONE can see it.

I'm tempted to join one because gaming streamers love to talk about their Discords. But it's also just another thing to look at and log into and stuff.

I've mostly been watching fighting games lately.

I don't really watch female streamers and I will shut off anyone who screams. It's not on purpose that I don't watch female streamers. I just haven't found one who both interests me and plays games I'd watch.
I mainly only follow one guy on Twitch regularly and he has a small following. When he plays a game I don't care for, I don't bother with him until he begins something new. But he tends to be consistently entertaining when I'm actually interested in the game. He also streams live at a convenient time of day so I can actually make it even if I'm working. He's playing Bravely Default 2 so I'm watching that.
I'll also watch CohhCarnage's vods if he happens to pick up something of interest but he plays a lot of stuff I don't care for. It's not on a regular basis or anything, especially since I can't make it live with his schedule anyway.
I like to watch something with an adventure in it of some sort. It can be like a Metroidvania, rpg, or even something that leans more into a visual novel.

My local nerd herd uses Discord, but I don't care for it; just text me. I use it to keep up with some anime subgroups, but only because they don't run actual websites and Nyaa can be unreliable.
I'm still on the default theme. I'll chell it out.

I'm glad because the first theme I chose was wonky. I tried it out on my profile only--which was dumb: I should've dug up and logged into Bitey or Pacman as a test account. It gave me an error that wouldn't load anything and I was like "oh, shit, gonna break the board again." I was able to get it uninstalled and find/install this one instead. I just wanted something dark and simple with minimal to no fanciness.
Weirdly (or not), this place looks better for me when I shut off my Dark Reader extension on Chrome. Dark Reader makes my board look light gray for some reason. But that's whatever. I'm on High Contrast mode so most of the places I visit look dark/black anyway.

How does Discord work? It appears to be something you can only access with an account, even the "public" Discords. And I find that off-putting. I get not letting anyone reply or only have specific permissions, but these days I just hate making new accounts for stuff.

It's a collection of chat rooms, but you have to know about the chat room from somewhere else. It also has decent streaming and audio functions (I've used it for playing Jackbox online during lockdown). Decent amount of customization options, including the security, but also stuff like custom emoji reacts. I'm not sure why gaming embraced Discord as hard as it did but gamers are basically why it was successful but I think it was the decent quality, fairly reliable, free voice chat.
There's also Slack, which I have recently seen described by some alleged GenXers kid as "boomer Discord."

Yeah, I like dark modes, so this works great for me.

Note to self to fix color of quote boxes. I didn't notice because my laptop is on high contrast mode so the quote boxes aren't stark white like on mobile. But, then again, Dark Mode on my cellphone is pretty shitty. "Hyuck, we made some things graaaaay." Gah, just as bad as Windows.
