Title: Merry Christmas, I suppose.

These are called Mondays.  :rawr:

They are also called "you can still go in and work off the clock if you want to" days. But my antagonism towards the popular commercial Christmas construct versus its theological importance in no way overrules my innate desire to lay about and do nothing productive.

I was grateful to have off because Merla and I were able to leave town and go visit my dad for a few days. It was nice to see the old fart and get away from this shit-hole I call my neighborhood.

Christmas was less than fun this year. My wife was sick as fuck (and now I'm sick as well but at least not as fuck), my shit-hole brother's decisions last year are still fucking with our family. We were never super functional but at least we all were still family.

Oh well, got a $50 Amazon gift card from my secret santa at work so that was awesome.

Also, hi, I'm back. Have I been here since getting married? Holy shit, I have no idea.

I don't know if you have.  But lucky for you "Marriage" is one of the acceptable excuses on my list here.  Funny enough, "Death" is not.

Did you both get the flu shot?  I'm just curious.  I heard it didn't even help.  Isn't the strain that goes around always something different than the shot?  Just seems that way.

I got a bunch of socks for Christmas.  I don't want to sound ungrateful.  I mean, I'm not all "boo, they're socks," it's because of the sheer number of them.  I don't need quite that many.  I'm not a bloody spider.

We always do, and we will again. There's no way for them to accurately know how the virus will mutate from year to year but most years it's a good protection. It's also important for protecting people who can't have it.

I did hear that this year's vaccine wasn't as effective as other years. I don't know that either of us had the flu but one of our friend's definitely did have it, as a doctor confirmed it. We still don't have new health insurance, so we haven't gone to any doctors since September. Fuck America's lack of a healthcare system.

The vaccine this year was crap. I always delay getting the shot, and this year I skipped it completely, like last year.

They offered flu shots at work but, yeah, I heard the shot this year was craptacular.

Stupid American healthcare... Fuckin' 45 dollars to wrap my broken pinky toe. I'm gonna be forever salty about that for the rest of my life.

Hell. I went to the local walk-in clinic on a Friday after my vacation because of a severe pain in my side (suspected a strained intercostal but wanted to dismiss a break and get a relaxer or something for pain). But they didn't have an x-ray tech available after lunch (I would have been happy to position myself as I used to be one) so they referred me to the ER (should have been run into the Fast Track care area so it'd be cheaper and faster), and I waited three hours for a nurse practitioner to tell me, yeah, radiographs show jack, you must have pulled something, here are your relaxers. Then a month later I get hit with a thousand dollar bill. Luckily I had insurance, or it would have been a $2500 bill. WTF? Maybe I shouldn't have had insurance, and maybe I'd have gotten it for nothing like the other assholes who come in for nothing major.

My complaint is more of a factor of lack of communication, poor triaging and me hurting too much to bitch at the time than the health care system (which would be served best by ending deductible-inflating federal mandates and the Medicrap programs that screw up service reimbursement and restrict alternative treatment options, and then giving commensurate write-offs and assistance to promote actual insurance coverage...but anyway). I hope they like getting $5 a month from here on.

Yeah, that's a bunch of bullshit. One year I got hit by a strong flu and went to one of those urgent care places. Slapped me with a bill and all he did was direct me to Target for freakin' Mucinex. Another time I had chest pain and I paid probably around a grand or so for emergency care. I had insurance at the time so like you I didn't end up eating the entire bill but still. I totally get the expenses for things like an xray but they took vitals, looked at my chart, consulted with me for under five minutes, and then shooed me out the door. I don't see where a four-figure bill came from.

Almost 3 weeks (every year for Xmas).
Bread, sausage and beer. Almost every day  :( :aroused:

I think you might've said, but do you go because of your husband? Like he has family there or something? And why the frowny face? Because you miss it?

Yes, and yes.

Also I LOVE the cold, dark weather.

Speaking of cold, hee hee, it's going to be just below freezing today with a chance of sleet. Me and Merla's jobs both gave us the day off to stay home. ;D If I ever leave South Texas, I'm going to miss when they do that. But I love when it gets cold here. I'm glad we're actually getting some semblance of winter here versus the prior years where we got shit.

WTF? Below freezing = day off?
But its hot as balls the rest of the year correct? Fuck that, I hate that kind of weather. Here in HCMC is hot and humid 365 days of the year, plus the pollution is terrible.

More like: below freezing + wet weather = day off. It's not the cold that gets us the day off, it's the ice. And, yeah, it can get pretty fricken hot the rest of the year. Last July, the heat was anywhere from 95 to 101 degrees at its hottest every day in the month. It's only because of rain activity and Hurricane Harvey that August wasn't the same.

I don't get snow days off, especially since I can't use my "but I drive a Camaro" excuse ever since buying a 4x4 last fall.

Yeah I bought and 4X4 (nothing big and load that says I have a small penis, just a Jeep Liberty) so I could get out in the snow....and then I was shit! What the fuck did I do that for, now they'll expect me to get out and go to work.

Which reminds me: I have a 2010 Camaro SS for sale. I'd keep it, but my inner V8-loving redneck must give way to fiscal responsibility.

"RABS"

Rabs sounds like something you have to have a special shampoo for.

I've heard tea tree shampoo works just as well.

Rezzing this topic because, well, it's Christmas, right? It has to be. That's why I'm already being bombarded by Christmas music, isn't it? There's no way that would happen when Thanksgiving hasn't even occurred yet.  :raiseeyebrow:

I'm guessing Jack Frost doesn't get to nip at many noses deep in the heart of Texas.

It lightly snowed on me while on the way to church tonight. Supposed to be 25°F in the morning.

He does but it's just that he doesn't have to try very hard: It's 45 right now so it's considered winter down here already.

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas and fun new year celebrations. I've been off work for a week and a half and have to go back tomorrow. Unfortunately it rained (with freaking tornado warnings earlier this week and monsoons last week) the majority of the non-holiday time, so my construction project and firearm training sessions got sidelined. Guess I will try again around Easter...when it's virtually guaranteed to be more crappy weather.
