Title: Antivirus and Firewall

At the moment, my Norton Antivirus is expired. And I'm considering whether to renew it or not, but I'm kinda getting sick and tired of spending $30-$40 a year to renew that fucking piece of shit.

That, and I'm looking for a firewall. Windows firewall sucks.

Here's the ideas I have:

- Mcafee doesn't have any combo packs... it would be $35 for antivirus and $30-35 for their firewall... so about $70 or so. I'm probably not going to do that.

- Norton is $35 to renew... $50 if I want NAV05 and firewall. That's an option.

- Zonealarms has a basic firewall for free, a firewall+av combo for $25, and a pro firewall and av for $70 (why the jump in price I don't know).

- someone suggested a free AV software at http://www.free-av.com/ (http://www.free-av.com/), I don't know if I trust free software that much.

Here's my options. I am currently using the free firewall from Zonealarms, it's pretty good. I could go all free and get the free AV software. I could get a combo pack from Norton or ZA. Or I could stay with what I have, upgrade my NAV, and stick with the free firewall.


What do you guys use? And how do you deal with it when your software "expires" and demands money to renew? Because I'm kinda sick of shoveling money at Norton.. I never had to do this 5 years ago.  :angry:

Ha ha, my university gives me free antivirus? I go to a community college for one, and the university I'm going to probably wouldn't give me AV anyway.

And Windows firewall sucks.

XP's Firewall blows.

I use AVG and I think it's Lerio Firewall.

Ez Anti-virus is $30. Ez armor (av and firewall) $40.
AVG is $33. Their bundle is $55.

..but wait.. EZ Armor is having a one year trial for free... mmm...


Why hasn't anyone else responded? What, do you think I'll take your advice and bitch about it later? All I'm asking is what you use and if you like it or not, so I can see if there's other options besides the ones I listed.

Get the free one for a year, by this time next year, you should be in jail. Just kidding, but by this time next year someone should be giving another one away for a year or so.
