Well, they're not saying it anywhere else, so it may be a premature report.  But it will be today.  And why not?  He's lived a long, full life.  Why do so many people treat death like it's some kind of personal failure?

Yep; premature report from the Italian media who drew the conclusion from the arrival of the Cardinals.  And I don't mean the baseball team.  <_<

My co-worker's parents will be leaving tomorrow for 2 weeks in Europe - first stop Rome on Sunday.  That's gonna be a memorable couple of days.

His denouncing of gay  ministers makes him an asshole least in my eyes, and Im not even religious.

This is why Faye likes Papa Juan-Pablo. Edit: I love how the monkey is anti-pope bashing.

I don't know why the hell all you spanish speaking people south of the border are catholic. The roman catholic church seems so oppresive. Birth control is wrong, so I guess the women's purpose is to pop out babies like a fucking factory. Abortion is wrong. Gays are evil. You have to worship a certain way, you have to do certain things or you won't go to heaven. And I won't even start with the Crusades or the Inquisition. Or the Catholic's procecution of Jews throughout history.

Actually Birth Control is wrong because people are to show restraint to sex. Sex is for procreation, it's similar to vegetarianism. Gays and Lesbians wouldn't have sex to procreate, thus it's just as bad to use birth control. Gays aren't evil, only dumb fucks truely believe that.

And who hasn't fucked up the Jews? Even the Chinese have done it.

Word on the damn overpopulation.  The Church will probably relax its stance on birth control sooner than any issue because people are simply living longer due to health care access and year-round food availability in most nations.  No one needs to pop out six kids in the hopes that 3 will live.

I didn't agree with a lot of his social stances, but they kind of went with the territory of being Pope. As an individual, I think he was pretty extraordinary.

India and China are largely uncatholic. And African population explosions arent much, considering plagues, famine, and war. The pope didn't telling the Chinese to double their population in how many years, nor was the message to make a shitload of kids. It was just don't fuck so much.

There's a pretty strict set of rules for having more than one child in China.  Break them, and it's an automatic $12,000 USD fine, plus having to explain to the government why.  The idea might have worked except for the cultural preference of male children. In the current coming-of-age generation, men outnumber women by about 16-1 so they're thinking of relaxing the restrictions.  So much for that.
I have no explanation for India.  My brother had to go there for a week last year, and he said it was truly terrifying.

I'm just hoping that approval of birth control by the Church might set the stage for a general shifting in attitudes; i.e., nobody HAS to squirt out a litter.  One or two is perfectly acceptable.  <_<

Those policies aren't inforced in the rural south, where people still have multiple children.

That's why Maury is still on TV.  Which sucks because those are the only shows they do anymore - I want to see more out of control teens.

My friend said that I could be Pope.  Imagine - a non-Catholic leading millions of Roman Catholics.

Bingo.

You have to give the guy credit for practicing what he preached, too.  One of his big thing was building bridges between faiths and forgiveness.  And you have to respect a guy who forgives the assasin who tried to kill him as they're dragging him to the ambulance and then later goes to prison and has a nice heart-to-heart talk with him.
