Title: American Dad
Post by: B E C K on Feb 14, 2005, 11:53:45 PM
I ended up falling asleep during both showings.  The little bit I did see reminded me too much of Family Guy.

Post by: joe on Feb 15, 2005, 12:07:49 AM
Weak first episode. As you said, way too much like Family Guy. The German goldfish is flat-out unamusing. The alien, however, was much to my liking. MUCH TO MY LIKING, INDEED.

I don't see how it's going to run side-by-side with FG. Will Seth pick and choose which show gets which jokes? It just seems awkward as hell.

I thought it was pretty amusing when Stan put the fish food in the bowl and the fish went "HAPPY HOUR!"

Post by: Extra Zero on Feb 15, 2005, 12:17:53 AM
No it wasn't.

Shame Seth couldn't have come up with a different setting for the show... Or atleast had all the characters as animals or some shit.

Man, I hope that's a sarcastic reference to NBC's failed Father of the Pride and not a legitimate suggestion. Talking animals belong in Disney movies and nowhere else. Ever.
Title: American Dad
Post by: Extra Zero on Feb 15, 2005, 12:34:15 AM
Haha, yeah Father of the Pride was the biggest waste of 30 minutes since Transformers Armada.

Dude, what about Energon? They didn't even bother to finish airing that steaming turd. Does anyone have the rights to Galaxy Force or whatever it's being called over here? I've got money on it not being Cartoon Network. Amen.

From what I understand Paramount has the rights.  From what I've heard, Galaxy Force was done by Studio Gonzo, the same people that did Blue Submarine No 6...  As for the writing, I'm unsure.  I'm even more unsure as to WHY they're continuing the horrible Armada storyline...

If someone decent gets to write for it, then yes.  However the movie is looking awfully promising.

Yes on the toys.

It's a live action movie with an obsecene budget.  Speilberg is actually rumored to be the producer.

I'm gonna go off on a tangent here, but man, Gonzo's done a hell of a lot more recent good stuff that you could be lauding them for, but don't let that bolster your anticipation for Galaxy Force. It's Energon with slightly nicer CG. That's it. And the fact that every TF series since Beast Wars has aired on TV Tokyo and now all of a sudden GF is on a different station is a kind of a tip-off as well. See, the Japanese are just as averse to watching garbage as we are.

I was for the most part unimpressed over the new show.

What's with Transformers being produced in Japan?  I thought originally TF was created by Hasbro to promote their toy line and became instantly popular, unless Hasbro is a japanese company... I'll admit I know dick about TF history.

It varies from series to series, and in actuallity the first Transformers series was the only series to be done in the US--until Season 4 which only lasted 4 episodes in the US.  The rest of the series was handled in Japan and went on for a long, long time.  Eventually, the show ended and since then the Japanese have treated the series alot like Sentai, in that an alternate universe has to be created every year with a new cast of familiar characters.  Takara made the toys for those Japanese shows.  In 1995, Hasbro deceided to re-launch the series with a show (I add with a show because of the Generation 2 toys that came out in the early 90's with re-runs of the show) in the form of Beast Wars.  Beast Wars was done in Canada, as was 1999's follow-up Beast Machines (which featured pudding explosions).  Hasbro handled most of the toys for both series.  Since 2001, Hasbro has synced up the Japanese and American toys and shows.  So now, only one series and show needs to be done.  Big shame here is that the shit that is "Micron Legend" or "Armada"'s storyline has continued for the past three years...  And there you have a brief history of Transfomers.

I didn't even crack a smile once during American Dad.  It was like they took the shittiest Family Guy script they could find and animated it to ugly ugly charcter models.

I mean, as unfunny as Family Guy is, it at least usually gets a laugh out of me once an episode.  I see American Dad as completely unneccesary.

Let it die a quick death.

(Also, why the fuck is Family Guy coming back while Futurama still lingers in death?  WHY?)

Okay, I saw the reairing of American Dad today.  Not utter crap, but I don't think it's good enough to tune in and watch week after week.  It had some funny parts but lots and lots of lameness.  I guess it was okay enough to try another episode before I doom it with my psychic powers.
