There's gonna be a new Red Dwarf series later this year
http://reddwarf.wikia.com/wiki/Series_X
:raiseroof: :raiseroof: :raiseroof: :raiseroof: :raiseroof:
-
I feel bad that I've never seen any Red Dwarf.
-
IX was very underwhelming, so I'm a bit leery of yet another series. I think Red Dwarf may have gone beyond its best before date.
Stick with the classics.
-
With IX do you mean that Back to Earth threeparter they did a few years back?
That one was a little underwhelming, but I know they can do much better. I'd love to see the old gang again
-
Ohhhhhhhh...
I miss Red Dwarf. They use to show it on PBS here every sat. night, but not anymore and the DVDs are expensive as hell. =/
-
The dvds used to be quite expensive (I know I paid quite a lot for mine), but they released a boxset a few years back which gets you seasons 1-8 quite cheaply:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Dwarf-Series-1-8-DVD/dp/B002N7HXIK/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1337587516&sr=1-1
I don't think this set has all the extra's the individual seasons releases had, but it's still a pretty good deal
-
Are they regionless? Edit: Just looked it up and they are not.
Best U.S. option I can find is this:
http://www.amazon.com/Red-Dwarf-The-Complete-Collection/dp/B000GI3RZ6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1337625678&sr=8-2
-
Crap, forgot about stupid regions
Sorry mate
-
Region coding is a mild inconvenience but PAL vs. NTSC is a big pain.
I don't have much of a reason to believe that new Red Dwarf would go against convention and start being good. I enjoyed the show for a while but it steadily got worse and worse over time.
-

Isn't that any show that lasts more than one season? I tend to think three to five is the usual stage of maximum ripeness. Then we get a downhill ride.
Also, that subject reminded of this website: http://deadhomersociety.com/
-
Season 7 was pretty weak, and like stated before the Back to Earth specials they did a few years back weren't spectacular (but I can forgive that considering the circumstances), but I LOLed pretty hard during every other Red Dwarf ep.
I still think Rimmer and Lister are the best characters ever to grace a sitcom. Just put them together in a room and you have a show, all the SF stuff is just bonus
-
Netflix let me finish Red Dwarf and that made me happy.
I am not sure whether I am interested in another series.
Maybe if they do this, they will make it final. They really need to make it final.

You can always open it up with VLC player, m8
-
I could. I have VLC, but I like to watch it on the TV instead of the computer. In fact I'll download stuff off the net and then convert it over and burn to DVD just so I can watch it on the TV instead of my computer.
-
so then get that cable that you can connect from the pc to the tv and stream it
-
I don't think my TV has the hook up for that. It is getting up in years. I'd have to get an adapter for the adapter. I had to do it with my Blu-Ray player.
-
I got a desktop that comes with a blu ray player and a remote which I've hooked up directly to my tv. Got a program called AnyDVD that automatically removes the region code of any disc I put in
Which is a pretty sweet set-up if I say so myself
-
Is the desktop Mac? if not, kbye
-
B-but it's a pretty sweet set-up!
-
Is the desktop Mac? if not, kbye
Is the desktop Mac? If so, damn you payed too much, probably.
I like Macs, for some reasons, but price is too high for anything they have to really matter.
-
Sweet setup ≠ Mac

I think it's worth it. I have had macs for years and never have a problem with them. Pcs on the other hand, tsk tsk

I've had few problems with PCs and the ones I've had were easy to fix. The cost is just too much.
-
I do have to admit that the new mac book pro with retina display at 2199 bucks its a little expensive, but the mac air at 1199 bucks? that's not expensive at all
-
Apple MacBook Air - Core i5 1.7 GHz - 4 GB Ram
$1,099 online, $1,300 nearby
July 2011 - Apple - Notebook - 4 GB RAM - MacOS - 256 GB disk - Intel CPU - 1.7 GHz CPU - Solid State Drive - Without Optical Drive - 1440 x 900 - Touchpad
Wow, a whole 4GB of ram. But yeah, that's actually expensive to us lower tier folk. I think I'll manage without that solid state drive somehow.
-
There are macs that are less than 1k.
-
Yeah. With 2 gigs of ram. :nono:
-
There are macs that are less than 1k.
What can I get for $3-400?
Also, compare that to what you can get on a PC for $1300, and the Mac's specs don't look as good.
http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-m11x-r3/pd.aspx#TechSpec $300 less.
-
Just watched the first new episode.
Bit of shock how old these guys have gotten, but it's still classic Dwarf. :)
-
I recently bought series X on blu ray. The extras has a making-of documentary.
Just watched that yesterday. Holy crap, I had no idea what was involved in putting out 6 30mins episodes of a sci-fi comedy and what shit they had to deal with.
After seeing that it's a miracle this series ever saw the light of day, and an even bigger miracle that it turned out to be the best series since season 6.

Huh, I do not remember asking this here. For anyone who cares I got a Chromebook recently, and even with its limitations I'm pretty fond of it already.
I'm glad to hear RD continues to be fun times.
-
I got an 11inch macbook air
-
If I wanted a Mac I'd find my old Speak 'n Spell or spring for a Leapfrog. Cheaper, and about as useful.
I may yet buy AnyDVD, as it's a great program, for Blu-ray playback on the Atari HTPC (http://www.shwiggie.com/operation-atari-htpc-part-3/), but I'm starting to just rip the blu-rays with MakeMKV and keep on-file. I'll probably build a server/desktop system early next year, as my desktop is pushing 8 years old at this point. I also need something that transcodes well, since I'll probably build a Rasberry Pi (a $35 SBC!)-based HTPC after equipping the living room with a new TV.

Ha Ha...I wish this board had a "like" button.

I love all this Red Dwarf discussion
-
mfw basic bitches and their basic pcs
Mac's really don't have much beyond a basic PC, unless you load software that makes it special. Most of that software is also available on other operating systems.
The only reason to buy a Mac now is because it's trendy.
-
"It just works" is stupid. My 8 year old PC "just works", too.
I will say that an SSD is the best computer upgrade you could make for the price. I love having a machine up and working in less than thirty seconds.
-
So getting back to the Red Dwarf discussion, is anybody here using Windows 8?
-

The Acer Chromebook I got boots in 15 seconds. I could get it to about 10 if I had an SSD. The Samsungs do it in ~10 seconds.
Probably will also be loading Ubuntu as a dual-boot option soon, just so I have an option to log into work if I'm stuck without my work clunker.
-
I'm running an optimized Win7x64 installation on an OCZ Sandforce-based drive, so ~30s is doing pretty well. It was faster (full boot in ~20s) before I updated the drive firmware, but I had to flash the firmware because it would regularly crash. That's what you get when you don't do enough research on whose stuff you're buying...which is why I'm using an Intel SSD on my eventual desktop build, or possibly one of the Samsung Pro series.
I thought about installing OpenELEC Linux on the HTPC in dual-boot mode so as to boot straight into XBMC. But I don't find myself using that setup very often in Windows, and most of my plug-ins involve Win-based game emulators. So...meh.
-
Game emulators are definitely a priority.
-
I've said it before, but my HTPC is built inside an old Atari 5200 case.
Playing 5200 games on it was one of the first things I did with it. It's amazing how much better these games play with a 360 controller.

Fiero be spreadin` all dat Mac hate all over fb

The article about their employees smashing shit in the storeroom?
Yes, I do have hate for that.
-
Please tell me you dont think the people that work at Mac stores are the only ones who do that. One of the things I love to read about is work stories and believe me they do shit like that in a LOT of businesses. Its nothing surprising really
-
Oh of course not.
But if you read the article, you can see that it appears to be systematic within the Apple store chains. Stores all across the country have people reporting a whole store working together to break lots of shit. That's a little more than the typical one or two guys who break shit in a storeroom.
-
Maybe that's what happens when their Lite-Brite laptops don't "just work" all of a sudden.
-
Ha ha, Lite-Brite.
-
I watched it, Rumble! I was a little resistant to the first episode, but after that it was like settling into an old chair, I just had to sync up with my ass groove. If that makes any sense at all.
I had a few gripes with it, but overall it was classic Dwarf. After IX, I didn't care if they ever did a X, but after X, I wouldn't mind if they did an XI.
You're right though, dudes are aged.
-
I still haven't seen this, and I really really need too.

Yeah X was a lot better than the previous efforts. Word is that everyone involved is keen on dong another series, but now I know what it took just to get this series made I won't hold my breath until XI is actually announced

I'm humored that you think your Mac is anything but a basic PC, just prettied up and costing more.

Doesn't change the facts. MAC and PC really have very few differences.
-
If I had mod powers I'd delete all the posts in this thread that aren't about Red Dwarf >:
-
:-[ ¡Escandalo!
-
As a little joke I was going to delete Rumbly's post but I cant do that to my bb <3
Fiero, first difference is : macs dont suck, pcs do
I talk from experience son. I had pcs up until the doors of compute heaven were opened to me by the lord Steven Jobs, when i was.... 21 I think

I've used both. I've used Linux. I've used OS fucking slash fucking 2. Windows 8 is a fucking failure, I'll admit that. Because it's fucking awful.
Between PC and MAC there is little one can do that the other can't, and with the same level of good computering.
But Rumble's right.
Who likes Red Dwarf? I do! I haven't watched the new season, though.
-
They're all based on x86 architecture. The only difference between Macs and everything else is that Apple made an operating system for people who can't be bothered to learn how normal ones work and then started a cult to proselytize it for them.
If my virtually computer-illiterate brother can work a non-Mac computer, then it's a non-issue.
Fuck Steve Jobs. Hate he died, but I wish his bullshit had died with him.

SHUT UP
We're talking about Red Dwarf again now, damn it.
-
So why was the dwarf red? 'Cause Legolas wouldn't stop spanking his ass. Ba-zing!
-
Red Dwarf sounds like a homebrew beer. With a crimson-clad leprechaun mascot who goes around asking if you have ever had a little person inside you and would you like to try it.
-
That....sounds awesome.
-
So why was the dwarf red? 'Cause Legolas wouldn't stop spanking...
oh yes...
his ass
oh
-
Feel free to change the joke as you pass it around.
-
Turns out there actually is a beer called Red Dwarf

-
Ah, clairvoyance. It's my gift, my curse.
