Title: Trailer released for Justice League: Doom
Post by: B E C K on Oct 18, 2011, 11:33:14 PM
Now this looks like something I can get excited about since Bats Year One and All Star Supes didn't float my boat.

Quote
Warner Premier has released its official trailer for Justice League: Doom, the next animated film for the DC superhero franchise.

This film is significant, partly because it was the last one penned by popular DC writer Dwayne McDuffie before his death in February. It’s an adaptation of the graphic novel JLA: Tower of Babel by Mark Waid.

........

The movie, executive produced by Bruce Timm, and directed by Lauren Montgomery, stars Tim Daly (Private Practice, Wings) as Superman, and Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly) as Green Lantern.

Justice League voice actors Kevin Conroy, Susan Eisenberg, Carl Lumbly, and Michael Rosenbaum will reprise their roles as Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter and The Flash. Bumper Robinson (The Game) rounds out the league as Cyborg (a new member who was not seen in Tower of Babel.

Phil Morris (Seinfeld, Mission: Impossible) leads the Legion of Doom as Vandal Savage, and is joined by Olivia d’Abo (The Wonder Years) as Star Sapphire, Alexis Denisoff (Angel) as Mirror Master, Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911) as Bane, Paul Blackthorne (The Dresden Files) as Metallo, and Claudia Black (Farscape, Stargate SG-1) as The Cheetah.

Tim and Kevin, argh, happy bubbles!  :nuriyes:

Ooh, and a decidedly unorthodox lineup of villains. Could be good.

Cool! What projects would you push for if you were in charge of DC's animation department?

I wanna see a Creature Commandos movie.

The list of villains makes me super freaking happy.

Vandal Savage is a beast, though I prefer his woman-loving daughter.

The New Gods and The Authority.

Man, come on. That would never happen. Not in a million years.

Even though The Authority would be fucking awesome.

Maybe if the new Stormwatch catches on we'll get one of that.

No, of course we won't.

An underwhelming but decent adaptation of the greatest Superman story ever told.

Skip this, just go rewatch Justice League and JLUnlimited. They should make a Teen Titans movie or better yet a Secret Six movie.
Or better better yet, a Secret Six series.

Yeah, i don't think they'll ever do anything with The Authority but New God seems like a slam dunk to me. Actually I'm kinda shocked that they haven't made a New Gods series yet. I mean they put Darkseid in damn near every cartoon they make. Why not show where he came from?
Title: Re: Trailer released for Justice League: Doom

Probably because Darkseid is a pimp and all the other New Gods are fucking lame.

I second this. Secret Six in any incarnation is awesome.

But the Tower of Babel storyline from JLA is one of the all-time great stories. I hope JL:D does...ahem...justice to it.

Secret Six would be fine by me, just don't base the character designs on Calafiore's pencils.

Repugnant.

I was at Powet's main page today, and I saw that the trailer for this was up. So I was all, "Oh wow, I just finished hearing about this, and now there's already a trailer? Awesome!"

So I came over here with every intention of linking to it.

Then I read the title of this topic:

Trailer released for Justice League: Doom

What the fuck is wrong with me?

Also, the original footloose is a fun movie beloved by millions if you didn't like it your critique is off not the rest of the world.
Title: Re: Trailer released for Justice League: Doom

So by that logic...

Avatar making the most money of any movie ever automatically makes it the best movie ever, simply because a greater number of people paid to see it.

What a horrible thought.

Also, "millions" is "the rest of the world"?

Was the human race decimated overnight and nobody told me?

How much money a movie made wasn't the logic at all.

Footloose is pop culture classic.

Also millions IS derr restt off durreeerrrweerrlld.

Yep, derr restt off durreeerrrweerrlld.

That is a scientific fact.

No one said it wasn't fun, I just said it "was no work of art".  More people remember it for the song than anything else anyway.  And since when did I care about what the rest of the world thinks?  The rest of the world loves "CSI: Miami" starring that hack David Caruso.  The world also keeps giving Nicholas Cage steady work.  SHIT.  Fuck 'em.
Title: Re: Trailer released for Justice League: Doom
Post by: joe on Oct 24, 2011, 12:05:35 AM
Popularity doesn't necessarily mean quality.

For instance, millions of people love Justin Bieber, therefore he is great.

Wrong.

And the only time people ever reference the Baconator Footloose anymore is to mock it.
Title: Re: Trailer released for Justice League: Doom
Post by: IDE on Oct 24, 2011, 12:53:14 AM
If it's getting referenced it's because it's a classic along with breakfast club and a whole cadre of other classic 80s movies.  Which is why it's being reimagined to get money from a new generation.

Don't pretend like people didn't like footloose.   It's one of bacon's best known works.

Work of art is a subjective saying anyway.  Is Goonies a work of art? I think so, but I'm sure others would disagree.

Perfect example of what we're talking about: Superman: The Motion Picture was a terribly flawed movie that butchered at least one major character and totally fell apart at the end. I'm right and everyone else is wrong. Nothing else matters.
Title: Re: Trailer released for Justice League: Doom

But Christopher Reeve was awesome as Superman, and the John Williams' score was classic. So we all can find things we like.

I haven't watched any of the Reeve Superman movies since I was a kid. I know they're mostly revered today, but I'll bet if I went back and tried watching them again, they probably wouldn't do much for me.

How about that Brandon Routh Superman? That should have been IDE.

And who's this Henry Cavill dude? That should be IDE.

But it's okay, because Henry is IDE's BFF, and they bump fists every Friday night over drinks.

Then Rob Reiner shows up and everyone has the cheesecake.

Did you see it in the era that it was made or only decades later when it would seem irrelevant?

I never understood pegging.  The woman doesn't get any actual pleasure out of it other than making someone else feel pain.  Some guys like apparently but I think they're insane.  I mean have you ever taken a ginormous poop.  A poop so huge it threatened to not only tear your anus but the very fabric of time and space as well?

I have.

I nearly passed out as reality went askew and I swore I saw Aslan wink at me before I shot that massive dook into the bowl with such velocity that to this day I'm 98% sure it caused the Tsunami in Japan...

Where am I?

Oh yeah, why anyone would willingly subject themselves to something like that is beyond my ken.

I watched this the other day. It wasn't great. It wasn't terrible either, it was just... compared to some of the stories we were given in the Justice League TV series, it was strictly mediocre. There was so much perspective-hopping from character to character that I never really cared about what any one of them was doing. Nothing really spectacular ever happens.

Or maybe it's just that superhero stuff in general has reached that saturation point where most of it comes off as mundane.

Cancelled projects

The Teen Titans: The Judas Contract was planned as the third DC Universe Animated Original Movie, to be released after Superman: Doomsday (2007) and Justice League: The New Frontier (2008). It was announced in 2006 but later put on hold. This film was to be based on "The Judas Contract" story from 1984 featured in Tales of the Teen Titans #42-44 and Teen Titans Annual #3 by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez. Warner Brothers Animation writer/producer Bruce Timm confirmed in April 2010 that there were no current plans to revive the project.

Thanks for the elaboration. In that case, I officially don't care if they continue these efforts. I don't think any of them have been particularly good. I hold out very little hope for the next one, and the DKR one will, if All-Star Superman and particularly Year One was any indication, be lackluster in comparison to the source.
Title: Re: Trailer released for Justice League: Doom
Post by: joe on Feb 29, 2012, 01:34:03 AM
I haven't seen Year One, but I heard it was snoozetastic.

Maybe they should call it quits with the adaptations, or at least get away from the Superfriends. I wouldn't mind a movie based on Shadowpact, for instance. They could stand to skew more obscure like that.
Title: Re: Trailer released for Justice League: Doom
Post by: Rodent of Unusual Size on Mar 01, 2012, 08:26:24 PM
Who would buy it? That's what the brass will ask before approving such a thing. Which is a shame...they could have gotten away with that with an episode of Justice League or Batman or whatever, but a stand-alone movie is probably not happening because of that simple question. That's probably why they scrapped the Teen Titans movie.

Shadowpact would be a fun group to feature (two words: "Detective Chimp"), but I'd really prefer Secret Six.

The Year One movie wasn't horrible. It was constrained IMO by the fact that its source material plays better on the page than celluloid...the constant internal monologues in particular don't make for exciting viewing. I also thought the adapted art design was just too plain, and the voices didn't do it for me. But the story was well-adapted from the landmark original, and it flowed well.

It came back saturday morning with Green Lantern TAS and DC Nation. And it is still boring.

Why don't they release the Warners Direct movies to  theaters? They would make a killing.
