Title: Top Gun IN THE THIRD DIMENSION!!!!
Post by: Rama on Sep 13, 2011, 11:32:34 AM
That's right....Top Gun is getting the 3D treatment. Now we can see Maverick repressing his gay love for Goose on the big screen and it'll be coming right at us!

I bet I spill my soda when Maverick does his tower Flyby. Then I'll yell "Maaaaaaaaaaaaaverick!" at the screen. No one will get it, and I will be asked to leave the theater.

Everybody that pays to see this shit in 3D should be shot to salvage the gene pool.

Man, this is fucking AWFUL because if it actually performs well, it sets an asinine precedent and soon everyone will follow suit. FUCK.

It won't work.

It won't.

Only George Lucas is allowed to pull this shit, and we all hate him for it!

And from what I hear theatrical 3D isn't exactly doing it for people anymore anyway, so let's just hope it all fades to black...

While I don't approve of the 3D it will be cool to see Top Gun in a theater.

I want to organize an event where we all get wasted and wear flight suits and get kicked out for being too rowdy.

Yeah, I don't mind the fact that the film is returning to theaters but the 3D bullshit is no-go.

Exactly.  Bleh.

I don't know, I think I'm willing to put up with the 3D for the chance to have 80s blockbusters return to theaters.

I never dressed up for a single harry potter installment but I will put on a proton pack and full buster regalia if it ever comes back to the big screen.

3D just need to die, period. Doesn't matter what movie it is used on...it just needs to die. It was a fad the the first 12 times they did it, and it is a fad now. It is not the new "sound" or "color" for movies.

Subtle 3D isn't bad like in avatar.

As long as someone isn't poking you in the eye for a gimmick I don't mind it.

TF3 was a better movie for 3D. I realize that's not saying much, but it's true.

I saw TF3 in IMAX 3D, and while the image was certainly much sharper than Vanilla 3D, the 3D effects just didn't seem to pop as much. Before long I forgot I was even watching a 3D film, which kind of defeats the whole purpose.

No I'm pretty sure all 3D should just go away...no matter the movie.

I really don't see why other than I'm tired of hearing "...IN 3D!" like we've gone back to the fifties all of a sudden. If people can make money on it and it keeps them in the movie-making business, more powet to them. In the vast majority of cases, it's no skin off my boo-heinie. And in the others, I'll catch it on the blu-ray.

It is just my take on things, but films are very important to me and I don't like fads. And 3D is a fad. I mean you'll never see something like "The Proposal 2...IN 3D". And I'm tired of some Hollywood people acting like it is the next thing in film, like sound or color because it is not. The good thing is people seem to already be souring on it. "In 3D" doesn't equal instant hit anymore, and not being in 3D isn't hurting ticket sales anymore and that's a good thing. This is just going through it's latest "in" phase. It had one in the 50's, then the 70's...and now...expect to go through this again in another 25 years.

Yeah, they really play that 3D shit but I don't think it should go away entirely.  I think there are movies that are perfect for 3D and people who like 3D should get their 3D movie options.  But movie companies should stick to films made for that format, not messing up 2D stuff so they can trick folks (most who don't know better) to buy more shitty glasses.  Anyway, apparently people are catching up to that and 3D's not pulling as much as it used to.

...films are very important to me and I don't like fads. And 3D is a fad.

In contrast, the movies are not important to me. They're fun, but I by no means take cinema seriously. I could live without ever going to a theater again.

But I totally agree that it's a fad designed to draw more money from movie-goers.

Too bad it worked so easily or it would've gone away quicker.  Now studios think of the bank made by Avatar and salivate their pants.  Yes.  Their pants.

I just don't see it lasting, or studios pulling out 1 or 2 3D films a year. Theater owners aren't gonna sit on 3D projectors that cost hundred of thousands of dollars in readiness for the day a studio might decide to release a 3D movie. If it becomes niche, they won't bother with it. The 3D process is expense. If the non-3D movies start making just as much as 3D movies, then there will be no point in doing 3D anymore. When the fad ends, the movies will end. Just like the first two times this happened.

The Lion King came back and will now extend it's stay to line up The Mouse's wallet.  Countdown begins to "Finding Nemo" in 3D.

Lion King 3D is apparently raking in the dough.

The precedent is set.  We will see this for a lot of movies.

Now I will surely have to make my 3D to 2D glasses, and I don't just mean an eye patch.  I'll take two pairs and make sure the same eye lens is in both so the movie looks 3D.

I want them to bring Aladdin to 3D just so we can get another release of it and I can get it cheap.  (50$ new Amazon.  Rly?)  Netflix hasn't had it for the longest time either.  I was stuck, um, streaming it from elsewhere.  And then I was able to borrow a VHS but... VHS.  Yeah.

Someone was saying Aladdin hasn't aged well. I haven't seen it in a while, but I've noticed that whenever I see screens of stuff from the years immediately leading up to The Lion King, some of it looks kind of wonky.

The CG in Aladdin was pretty cheap at the time.  I imagine it will be out on the B-Rays pretty soon.

I have the DVD at home.  I just bought it kind of on a whim when it came out.  It's not my favourite Disney film by a long shot.  Didn't realise it had become seriously OOP so a bunch of my coworkers were real happy to borrow it and make off site backups for personal use.

:lmao:

I remember being so excited Billy Joel was going to be singing in that movie since he was my favorite singer when I was a kid.  And he does, like, one fuckin' song.  It's kinda inexcusable that they had him, Ruth Pointer, Bette Midler and Huey Lewis and we get ten minutes of music in a 70+ minute movie, one song a piece, and lackluster ones at that.  "Why Should I Worry" is really the only memorable one and it feels more dated than stuff Joel released earlier than when the move came out.

I think Aladdin has aged fairly.  When I last saw it, I did find myself fast forwarding some parts.  The songs are really what save it imo.  I still sing to "Prince Ali".  It was the one Disney soundtrack I have ever purchased.

I never bought a disney soundtrack but my sister did, it was lion king and I'd put it on and do crunches sometimes.

Am I supposed to picture him doing sit-ups to The Circle of Life?  And did anyone else want an outtake of the lions at breakfast shortly after that song number ended?

If it is a true circle of life then we should also have shot of them taking the Browns to the Super Bowl.
