I was on the phone when suddenly I heard popping, which sounded like it may have been gunfire. I peeked outside and couldn't quite make out much except that the possibility of it being just fireworks wasn't great, given the height of the flashes of light I saw with the popping and that people were running, with one of them speeding off. The neighbors are suspcious people and being worried, I called 911. God knows what they're doing out there. In fact, for the past hour there's been nothing but suspicious noises, even though the evil ones across the street have thankfully been gone for months.
So I call 911 and try to calmly give the damn operator as much info as possible. Just when I try to give her the address she replies in a snotty voice, "Can I talk, please?" as if she had been struggling to get me to stop speaking the entire time (which she hadn't) like we were at a cocktail pary I was being terribly rude. WTF? The first thing she asked after that was how many shots did I hear. Who gives a shit? Do I get a prize if I hear six instead of four or something? Do you think I was counting them on my damn fingers? I heard multiple shots, saw flashes of something that went with them, heard people running, and one of them squealed away. I told you all of this, bitch. Put it as a low priority, I don't give a shit, just send a fucking cop to chell it out. I don't need your fucking attitude, you fucking ass. I notice in sitations where people expect you to be crying and sobbing and you don't, they're rude to you for not doing so and that's what this felt like. Like she would've shut her damn trap and been more understanding instead of being such a smart ass had I been sobbing and incoherent on the other line. WTF does that shit solve? I'm scared God knows what is going outside, you cunt. Just let me give you my address and send the fucking cop. Fuck.
When I told my mom I had called 911 she reacted as if I had blown it out of proportion by doing so. There's been gang activity here before. The people on the neighboring street have had the cops called on them before. It's not like I just heard shots or I just heard people running or I just heard a car squealing away. I understand how just hearing one of those things might be overreacting. But given that I heard all of those things and the past history of the place and that even now I keep hearing suspcious noises, it is not fricken out of line to call the damn cops. Fuckity fuck fuck! What will it take before it's necessary, a bullet in the head. Christ.

wait, so did the cops came?
-
I don't know. With all the noises, I 've been keeping away from the window. And I told them I didn't want to speak to any cops, just to have them come on by and make sure the neighborhood is okay.

You need to move over here to Podunk Holler. Law enforcement is non-existant, but there's a lot less crime, home owners are typically armed, and there's no way in hell people are going to mess around too much with hunting season in full swing.

There's a TV campaign going on with the purpose of convincing all the rednecks in town to not run outside at the stroke of midnight Friday & start shooting into the air. Good luck on that hopeless cause. <_<

"Ya's mean we can'ts blass off ahr boom-sticks aht da starts of New Yeers!?"
-
Oh crap, I wasn't even thinking about that. Looks like I'm spending New Years on the floor this year.
-
My neighborhood, all the gunshots are followed by an 'aye-yay-ay' 'arriba,' 'various other spanish statements.'
-
Okay, it can't just be the three Texans ducking airborne ammo on New Year's Eve. :( Please tell us this happens elsewhere.
-
We used to fire guns on the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, but we live far enough away from others that nobody is in any danger.
It's actually pretty cool to hear the report of the guns sounding across the hills and hollows when everybody within 20 miles fires simultaneously.
-
But it doesn't count when they're far enough apart from each other. It happened at my old neighborhood but we only had a couple of misfits there. Here it's like all misfits. I expect a casulty to come out of this.

Really? You could always invite Murray over.

Not after getting that [doHTML]one-match ban (http://sport.scotsman.com/football.cfm?id=1476212004)[/doHTML]. The wanker!
