Title: Failbook
Post by: IDE on Jun 27, 2011, 04:13:23 PM
Post about facebook in here.

My friend keeps putting these "clever" status updates up that he's stealing from online sites for cool status updates.  This is retarded but what is MORE RETARDED is that chicks believe he's coming up with them on his own.  Google it you stupid bitches! I don't know why this bothers me so much, and no it's not because I didn't think of it first.

I have a friend who posts pictures a lot. While some are OC, most are copypasta. No matter if they are or not, people think he was the clever man to come up with them. However, the ones that think that are not Internet people, so I laugh at them.

The FB Purity script is what kept me from abandoning Facebook two years ago. If you're tired of "so-and-so is now a friend of this-and-that" and the people whoring for game items, you should have gotten this yesterday.

If it's not an actual update of status or otherwise pertinent personal tidbit, I ignore it. If it's a cut & paste line of BS that's longer than three or four lines, I start thinking, "defriend this person".

Song lyrics as status updates.

Tweets or facebook status updates that are reactions to sporting event scores.

Generally mundane sharing of information like talking about how you're cleaning, or watching a certain TV show without commenting on it, or mentioning the food you're eating.

Hey, we have separate threads for that stuff here!

I'll admit I get pretty frustrated with the movie thread when people name movies and say absolutely nothing about them.

Just scores, or are you okay with reactions to wins?

I don't mind the song lyrics that much as long the same person isn't over doing it.

If it's a sport or game I don't give a shit about then those are a little annoying. But when it's me doing it with them I feel like we're all sort of watching together which is nice.  So I guess I'm a hypocrite on that front.

and Yeah I don't need to know if you're cleaning your room or if it's "True Blood Time!" but food posts with pics are ok with me.  Without pics it goes back to cleaning.

We have a "friend" I use the term loosely he's more like our mascot.  He's always typing "At ____ eating_____ NOMNOMNOM"  or NOMMING  or something equally idiotic.  I mean who the fuck actually uses that in every day speech/typing.

I'll admit I get pretty frustrated with the movie thread when people name movies and say absolutely nothing about them.

Well, nothing's stopping you from asking whoever posted they saw it what they thought about it or something along those lines.  Just sayin'.  :P

I had someone who posted about his food on FB.  I hid him from my feed.  I look at his profile and read his wall when I decide to give a shit.  This solution works for me.

My friend keeps putting these "clever" status updates up that he's stealing from online sites for cool status updates.  This is retarded but what is MORE RETARDED is that chicks believe he's coming up with them on his own.  Google it you stupid bitches! Anyone know if you can see your pending friend request?  Like the ones you sent out?

My mom just fucking tricked me into thinking these people wanted to request me as a friend but in reality she reccomended me to friend them.  BUT I HAVE NO FUCKING DESIRE TO BE FRIENDS WITH ANYMORE FAMILY MEMBERS! I'm about to cull them from my friend list.  I do not want to feel inhibited on facebook.

Google Plus or whatever is looking BETTTER AND BETTER!

Just wanna smash someones face in right now
Title: Re: Failbook
Post by: Chopper Face 69 on Jun 30, 2011, 07:51:04 AM
I think if you have an outgoing friend request you can see it on their page.  As in, you can't make a request to someone who has a pending request still waiting.

I have 1 person on my request page sitting in limbo.  It's my wife's aunt who wants to sell me on her banking pyramid scheme so I'm not approving that shit...

Speaking of wives, interesting little quirk.  If you set a relationship status and then unfriend that person, the status remains.  I haven't been facebook friends with my wife for months, but she's still listed as my wife.  I sometimes wonder if she's even noticed...

I have a relative that keeps copying and pasting everything she reads that says "if you BLAH BLAH BLAH, repost this message!" regardless of what it is, as if the Facebook police are going to ban her if she doesn't.   What is worst of it is that a good number of them are long-debunked urban legends, or posts that don't even make any damned coherent sense.  And her friends will comment about them in some panic.  Like that Facebook is going to start charging people to use the site, because it was all over the internet and on TV... the internet and TV that apparently 6 billion people DON'T use.   I will often link to snopes or somewhere to show her that none of this stuff she is posting it real and she's just continuing the chain of some big hoax... but then she'll take that post and re-post what *I* posted and tell me "Oh, I didn't know, one of my friends posted it so I was just passing it on."

I think I may have friended two people in the last year.   The desire to find people died after about two weeks.  But what pisses me off is when someone sends ME a friend's request, and then takes me of a month later.   I can understand if *I* friend them and I end up being a dick or something and they don't want me to be part of their online acknowledgment, but what the hell is that shit?

There's another word for the reposters out there...it's "spammers".

Amen on the FB message board thing. It's especially bad now that it's football season, and all my psychotic friends are posting trash talk all the damn time. I'm about ready to hide everything they post, but that defeats the purpose of teh Facebook.

One thing I like about facebook is that it's lumping posts together now and hiding them.

So instead of me seeing 39 "GO NOLES!" messages I see "Johnny Bravo and 38 other people posted about the Florida State Seminoles"
Title: Re: Failbook
Post by: The D on Sep 06, 2011, 07:31:09 PM
FB screws up the posts you see on your news feed.

Go to the bottom of the news feed, and there should be some kind of "edit settings" button at the bottom. And you have to change your setting from "Only show updates from people I interact with most" to "show all status updates".

I'm about ready to drop FB. It's handy for news on people I'm not in constant contact with, but that's about it. I'm tired of them fucking up the news feed every few weeks apparently on a programmer's whim.

Ugh what do you guys think of this new spyfeed shit?

I see every fucking move other people make and they see mine up in the right corner.

If you know how I can stop letting them see what I'm doing please tell me, I don't mind the me spying on them part, but sometimes I leave chat disabled cause I don't want people to know I'm there and this shit foils that.

You can make lists and then chose who you want to see any given activity in your privacy settings for that post or whatever.

I have too many friends, so right now it's an exercise in taking people I'm not that interested in hearing about and reducing the level of activity which I see on a case by case basis.

To be honest, I just don't go enough to matter either way.  I like being to able to keep in touch with the people on my friends list and see what's up with them every once in a while.  I do this by actually visiting their profile instead of relying on the feed.  And I like fanning people/shows and liking things.  But if I don't go for FB a month (or sometimes longer), it doesn't feel like I'm really missing out on anything.

It's apparently growing rapidly to the tune of duodecupling in the week since it's open registration. It's just not growing much in our circles, although the Powet crew seems taken with it. Plus, there's a lot of potential new features being discovered in the site code...Google Voice integration (a la Skype), "Google Experts" (a la Yahoo Answers), wall posting (a la Facebook itself), expanded photo features (again, a la FB). and easy privacy settings (a la...well, that's unique, not to mention welcome).

So the new facebook is going to allow you to see all the posts ever made on there about you or in reference to you ever.

For me it was a trip down memory lane seeing all the bitches that I plowed soundly into the throes of ecstasy who unfriended me rather than be a slave to my demi god dong.

I mean seriously you cunts felt the need to unfriend me even though you're still friends with people I introduced you to that you never talk to?

Such is the powet of my penis.

Anyways you queerbags can also experience your own trip down memory lane without waiting until the official release by following the simple instructions on this page:
http://mashable.com/2011/09/22/how-to-facebook-timeline/#27137Step-8

(You don't have to register your phone number or whatever the fuck they were talking about, at least I don't remember ever doing that and it worked fine for me)

Yeah that would be kind of confusing at this point.

I know that FB isn't a video game but sometimes I expect it to entertain me for some reason.  This is probably just because I'm crashing from drinking several 5 hour energy shots, but son I am disappoint all the same.

Yeah that would be kind of confusing at this point.

An appearance by Hank Hill would be confusing?  King of the Hill ended in 2010.  Beavis and Butthead ended in 1997.  I would think B&B getting a series again would be the more confusing part (especially with no music vids).  A Hank Hill cameo might be kinda awesome since he would probably be more familiar to viewers even if they didn't really watch KotH.

Title: Re: Failbook
Post by: Rodent of Unusual Size on Oct 27, 2011, 09:54:58 PM
Pretty much, yeah. Hank Hill + 30 years = Tom Anderson.

Quote from: wiki
Tom Anderson—voiced by Mike Judge. The nearsighted, elderly neighbor of Beavis and Butt-head. He often hires them to do chores which results in them destroying his yard, home, or personal belongings. Due to his poor eyesight and mild senility he never seems to recognize the two and he never remembers their names (in one episode the two wore horn rimmed glasses in an absurd disguise which Anderson did not notice). He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. His character is a big influence on the look and voice of the character Hank Hill from Judge's subsequent series, King of the Hill as both were based on the same collection of elderly men from Judge's youth.

"Ah think one of 'em calls 'imself 'Butthole'. The other's named 'Joe', Ah believe."

I saw part of this and they didn't change a damn thing. It's like it wasn't even canceled. Kinda a time machine to 1996. And they did have music videos on there. I heard someplace they didn't, but they do. They just now also "riff" (if it can be called that) on clips of MTV shows. Probably cause they didn't have enough videos left in the library to work with anymore.

Going back to Facebook, I'm not sure I even want to go back.

Besides this new Timeline feature, I was reading an article in USA Today about how FB tracks what you do online through cookies, even if you're logged out. It seems FB wants to just throw all privacy to the wind and put every single bit of your private info out there for people to see.

I'm thinking that Mark Zuckerberg is the antichrist. Already you can use fb to log into other sites on the web... that's almost like the mark of the beast right there. :P

In any case Wiki says that Zuckerberg is Jewish, so insert greedy jew jokes here.

God it's annoying but like I said at least I've only got 100s and not 1000s to go through like some people I know.  That shit has to be retarded now with your little feed thing whizzing by at a million ticks a second with shit from people you couldn't care less about.

Every time I see something I don't like in my feed I set that person so I see less of their information.  Like last night someone on my friends list had one of these "If you have a true friend ... copy paste as your status ..." so they went down to "Only Important" whatever that means, and they'll get ignored completely if I see that shit again.  Pretty easy trick.
