I thought it was "Free Donut Day" ??? I know Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts were both doing it.

I went to the basement store in our building and one of the customers saw a donut bag sitting on the counter and commented that the shop owner went over to get one (there is a Dunkin directly across the street).  He said that he hadn't, that someone came in to buy something and forgot it and never came back.  The customer said that Dunkin was packed and it took people 40 minutes in line to get their donut.

Part of me has to feel sorry for whoever the poor bastard was that waited 40 minutes to get his donut and then completely forgot about it when he went to the store.

Another part of me has to feel happy knowing that people stupid enough and batshit insane enough to stand in line for 40 minutes to get a 99¢ item for free were doing that instead of molesting children or putting firecrakers up someone's butt.

You know, that's pretty gross. But I'm okay with it.

I remember way back in the day, there was this pic of a guy punching another guy in the face, and the guy being punched was puking on yet another guy, and that shit traumatized me. I couldn't stop thinking about it for days.

Fucking internet.

As for donuts, I've been known to eat them. But God, the aftertaste. The greasy aftertaste of a donut is so fucking awful, it makes me question my own sanity.

Donuts are amazing, I haven't eaten one in years though.

Greasy aftertaste?  Dude, what kind of donut were you eating?

Here's how I rate my donuts, from worst to best:
Walmart: Yuck.
Donuts in a bag like at the gas station or vending machine: bleh, not REAL donuts.  Boo.
Krispie Kreme: how many coats of sugar do you need on the damn things?  Boo.
Dunkin Donuts: standard donut.  Nothing bad about it but nothing special either.
Shipleys: a fresh glazed one is delish all hot and warm but they really fuck up chocolate frosted.
HEB (it's a grocery store): I love deese.  I love a nice, fluffy, chocolate-frosted.  But they're like kids, you gotta watch them or the bagger will fucking squash them under a sack of potatoes.

I don't know how else to explain it. I've eaten various brands of donut in my time, as well as homemade, and they always leave this funky taste in my mouth afterwards. Maybe it's just me.

Maybe that's not donut glaze you're eating on there. :\

Or maybe it's Canada.  Tell me, sir, have you had a good ol' fashioned American donut?

Ha! Vindicated by Faye. God bless you, woman.

Just saying. Not like it keeps me from eating them or anything.

I haven't had a donut in like six years or more.

Best ones are my mom's, definitely.

The little powdered-sugar Blue Bunny doughnuts are a notorious weakness of mine, but only if they're fresh.

I agree, your mom's donuts are the bomb! My mouth is watering just thinking about them.

Hahah I was thinking something perverted too when I read Fiero's sentence.

Anyways, I'd have a donut a year or so. The ONLY ONES I'd eat are the hard-ish ones from DD> You know, the ones that don't have any glaze and are hard

Doughnuts are wonderful, but only really if they're from a real shop. "Real" meaning it is owned and operated by a Mexican/Asian immigrant and his/her (entirely optional) wife/husband/family.

Do they actually have real doughnut shops in Canada?

I mean, I've pretty much come to the assumption that any time one even tries to open, a lineup of Tim Hortons' employees armed with bats and sinister attitudes appear outside ready to choke the proprietor to death with their oven-ready garbage.

Nope. Never had a real doughnut. Maybe you could mail me some.

No wait, Canada Post is on strike.

Ah, yes, immigrant pastry.  It's the shit.  Immigrant tortillas are totally kick-ass.  Eating some mass-produced crap-ass tortilla is completely not worth the caloric intake.

And I for one think tortillerias smell awesome.

Tortilleria sounds like a disease contracted from shelled reptiles.

Word up. There are many mexican bakeries in South Philly and their cakes/sweets look so fucking good, but they all have fluorescent colors.

I find this adds to the presentation, not takes away. There is something intriguing about a lime green frosting.

I dont think so! http://gothamist.com/2006/07/20/the_hungry_cabb_11.php

Check that sweet bread.

BUT I did love the food scene in Hook. Remember, with all the cakes with different colors? (their merengues were amazing)
