How is it that Pidge got hotter and Princess Allura got uglier? What kind of world do we live in? Lotor also got uglier. Well, he got a promotion AND he got uglier. Or better-looking if the 3rd Dimension is still burned into your brain.
-
Oh, wait, that's not Lotor. That's Lord Oberon from Gargoyles. I've inexplicably mixed them up. Somehow.
-
Only on Nicktoons? Fuck you Nick! Fuck you!
-
Cartoons these days are spread across way too many specialty channels.
-
That's balls that it's not at least on regular Nick.
-
Yeah no kidding. Nicktoons is in the highest channel package on Dish. So this is another thing I don't get to see, just like anything on the HUB. Yet I still get G4, which I'm pretty much tired of at this point.
-
Why are cartoons getting uglier?
-
Animation duties are probably being farmed out to cheaper and cheaper production companies.
Because kids don't notice that shit.
-
If you bitch and complain for awhile they may let you add specific channels.
-

That's not accurate.
Animation companies don't THINK kids notice that shit.
-
Oh, well. Another show I'll watch via torrents because of shitty network commitments.
-
Why are cartoons getting uglier?
I assume because it's supposed to be easier to animate or whatever by being all cheapo on the design. I'm getting really tired of all of the shit getting uglier myself. Princess Allura has a Xenomorph head for crying out loud. Voltron gets uglier, Thundercats gets uglier, Transformers got uglier, Batman got uglier [re:Brave and the Bold, and yes that's just imo], Biker Mice got uglier [even the bikes got uglier, gah!], Ninja Turtles got uglier by the end of its own revival run. The MOTU reboot is the only remake/relaunch I can think of in the last ten years that didn't get all fugly. Here's an idea, folks: go back to 13-episode first seasons make half as many nice-looking episodes. I've rather have 13 good-looking Voltron Force episodes than the 26-logs of crap we're liking to see coming down the pipe.
-
HOLD THE PHONE!
They did a new Biker Mice from Mars? Why was I not informed?
And MOTU is the only one in that list that got BETTER looking.
-
They did a new Biker Mice from Mars? Why was I not informed?
You missed nothing. Instead of looking buff and tought, they made all three mice skinny and flat-looking. They cut Charley's hair and changed her voice actress. (Not to mention they NEVER even drew her tits right. LOL Huh?). They made Throttle's rad Harley-type bike BRIGHT GREEN and made Modo's a fuggin' trikey. They also decided to go electronic with the theme music. And that was just the beginning really. The only thing spot-on were the three main voice actors who were all the same guys from the old show. But that excuse only works if you're blind. Just look at this shit.
-
If it was a Spyder style trike, that might be okay. That kind of trike is just retarded. But it wouldn't matter because it would still look like shit.
-
emo mice on scooters :/
-
Yeah, that's pretty much what it was. When FoxBox or whatever crapblock had it died shortly after, I considered it a mercy killing.
-
Does Biker Mice really deserve any reverence? It's nothing but another of the myriad TMNT me-too shows like Bucky O'Hare, Wild West Cowboys of Moo Mesa, Street Sharks, Extreme Dinosaurs, etc., etc., etc.
-
I don't remember the Bucky O'Hare show, but I do remember the arcade game and it was AWESOME.
-
I don't remember the show or the game, but I remember the toys. Mainly cause they were piled up in a local outlet toy store.
-

It was fun and they remade it not-fun. That's really enough reason for me. And it was no where down to the level of Streek Sharks. Yech. Moo Mesa was pretty generic and Bucky O'Hare was pretty "stiff". The weird-ass duck was the only creature on it with a personality that wasn't made out of cardboard.
And your post reminded me of Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys. I miss that show.
-
I don't remember Biker Mice being any better than street sharks.
The only show that distinguishes itself from those clones is swat katz imo.
For some reason I remember the name of Bucky O' Hare's spaceship is the Rightous Indignation.
What a useless piece of information to have stored.

Sounds like a Halo ship.
-
Swat Kats has one of the most fucking badass cartoon intros of all time.
The show itself I can't recall, but that intro, man. That intro.

Trust me, it was. Although the second season of BM had a huge glut of episodes and really was a mixed bag in terms of quality.

You should name your penis that. :lmao:

The show was decent. With only twenty-four episodes though, they didn't have a whole lot to mess up. And they actually altered the intro at one point, I think for the second season or maybe for it's broadcast on a different station since it was in syndication, then on TBS or something, then on CN. I always liked the second one best.
Season 2 -
-
That intro is pretty rad...
and if my penis wasn't already named Grond: Hammer of the Underworld I'd definitely take that into consideration. Maybe if my penis goes face later in it's career...

New Voltron Force vids up at the Nick website. Blah. It's like they're trying to make it Harry Potter with these three new kids. Also, Lance's personality has really changed. It seems Keith should be in this mentor/leader role, but they went and made him a "rebel outlaw". Neither of which would bother me as much if this were a reboot and not a sequel to the original.
-
I'm starting to think that not being able to see this is a blessing in disguise. Course I could watch it online (which I assume is what you will be doing) if I had High Speed. Which I do have a lead on that, but who knows if it'll pan out.
-
What I've been seeing so far are preview clips.
Did I mention Pidge is a secret galaxy-famous DJ? Hunk writes "rock anthems". Lance is a secret resistance leader and Allura has a red-headed niece. Somehow. Also, they have a black kid among their new cadets who's the descendant of "the ancient people who created Voltron". That's right, black people made it all along despite having 0 pressence on Arus. King Lotor, meanwhile, "is on a mission to gain control of the Haggarium powet that now runs through his veins."
That's right, he injected Haggar. :nurinono:
-
Wasn't Haggar suppose to be like Zarkon's mother? I seem to remember reading something like that.
-
Yeah, she was something or other. Anyway, she's in his veins now. Maybe that's why he's all ug-o now. Haggar is a helluva drug.
-
So what did he do? Grind up her dry old bones and snort it?
-
Is this show from a European animation studio? It seems like anything from out of there lately (see france) looks like ass.
-
That's a fucking shame. Remember Cyber Six? Stupid title. Gorgeous European animation.
Or was it? Didn't the comic originate in Brazil? Maybe it's South American animation.
...nah.
I could Wiki it and find out, but then what would be the point of posting on message boards, ever?
-
I have no idea what "NOA" is or where it's based but it was animated by them and Tokyo Movie Shinsa.
Also the comic is Argentine. And the creators are dead. One in 08, the other barely died a month ago. joerammstein, you depress me so. Did you Time Cop your way back a month ago and ice him? I think you did.
Artist Carlos Meglia Passes Away (http://www.newsarama.com/comics/080815-Meglia.html)
RIP Carlos Trillo (http://www.comicsbeat.com/2011/05/09/rip-carlos-trillo/). Why, his picture on The Beat was so depressed, it too passed away.
-
The comic is Argentinian, but the production company was Canadian and the animation was done in Japan.
-
Obviously they treated the Japanese animators like actual human beings, because that show was exquisite.
-
I never got to see past one of the early episodes. I think that show might've been pulled where I'm at before the entire thing could even run.
-
Yeah, it was all over Teletoon, which is kind of like our bizarro Cartoon Network. I'm pretty sure it came on every day for months, and seeing as there weren't many episodes, it was an easy thing to see all of them.
Then Fox picked it up for Saturday mornings but pulled it after only a few episodes or something like that.
I wouldn't mind getting a hold of the original comic in English.
-
Well, since it was a Canada thing--Brian Drummond, ho!--they pretty much run their shit in the ground, right? Over here it was all, "fuck Canada and fuck that Escaflowne shit, too!" and then they yankins.
-
I think Disney XD was running Cyber Six awhile back. If I am thinking of the right show. Red head cat girl, talking specter ball thingy voiced by Odo, kinda a retelling of King Arthur?
-
Whoops. It should be Cybersix, one word.
You're thinking of Xyber 9. Maybe. I never watched that one.
-
Oh yeah. That's right. My mistake.
-
Yeah, I was gonna say that didn't sound at all like Cybersix. Imagine if they combined: Xybersix 9. Sounds too hot for TV!
-
At least I didn't confuse it with Bionic Six.
-
'80s cartoons all had such spectacular intros. The actual episodes never stood a chance.
-
How do they have a black kid?
-
He was adopted by Voltron and Madonna.
-
There's an Asian kid in there, too.
I get a Planeteers vibe off them.
-
But they're a family!
-
And if the Planeteers where family then Wheeler could have never fucked Linka. And you know he tapped that.
-
Nah, man. Wheeler was taking it from the Captain.
They all were, unfortunately.
-
GO PLANET!
-
Watching this at the Nicktoons website and it's not the biggest pile of crap ever but it's still leagues, leagues behind what it potentially could have been. That animation looks awful, the CG looks cheap cheap cheap. Please invest in the damn animation at least. Also, I think the cadets take up too much of the story.
"What's the only thing that eats lions? I'll tell you! A BIGGER lion!" :joe:
-
The show is shit. Better luck next reboot World Events.
-
Hmmmmm it seems that Classic Media (who are behind this Voltron return) also have the right to Masters of the Universe, and there are rumblings of looking at bringing that back. And I guess Mattel also has some big announcements for the future of MOTU at SDCC.
If this pans out the way it looks to be pointing I hope it turns out better then Voltron. If it is just NOT on Nicktoons that would be at least one step in the right direction.
-
"Hey, we rebooted this before, right?"
"Yeah, but we didn't fuck it up that time!"
"You're right! We better fix that!"
:joe:
-
Funny you should mention SDCC. I'm going this year for free! With free hotel! How did I pull this off you didn't ask? I pounde...just kidding!
It wasn't me who pounded some chick who works with the twilight franchise, it was my friend!
That's right we're unionized now.
-
"Hey, we rebooted this before, right?"
"Yeah, but we didn't fuck it up that time!"
"You're right! We better fix that!"
:joe:
Oh it got fucked up, but it wasn't on the TV show end. It was on the toy front, and of course with no toys to sell Mattel stopped paying for a pretty decent show.

It was a damn good show. I actually enjoyed it. I can't watch 80s MOTU at all. It just makes me want to break my skull and rip my eyes and ear drums out.
-
Watching ep 1 now
It's a KERRRAZZZY saturday night ova here! I had 2 beers and I'm watching cartoons!
...
Oh god, just read the posts from 2007...old me would bitch slap me now :(
-
Things I dislike so far:
The mice are robots...or rather the mouse. I've only seen 1 so far. I know the original mice would be too cheeseball today but I liked them when I was a kid.
The lion suit(s). I don't think that just because you pilot a lion your flight suit should have lion powers...or any powers really.
-
Swat Kats has one of the most fucking badass cartoon intros of all time.
The show itself I can't recall, but that intro, man. That intro.
It's like 80's metal makes EVERYTHING better. How is this?
-
Ok one thing I do dig is the interchangable voltron heads.
When lance formed it that was pretty dope.
-
But...but Keith always formed the head. It was like the only thing he did. "And I'll form the Head" that was like his thing.
-
Isn't he also in charge of infracells and megathrusters?
-
In the latest episode I find it hard to believe that daniel and the girl would have been out hunting robot drones instead of fucking down in the down in the den while everyone else was Voltron training.
I'm retconning it in my mind to be that way.
-
Also I don't like how the girl doesn't like piloting the lions. Bitch you're a voltron force pilot, what are you here to do? (Besides get pounded by daniel in the den)
