Title: Who decorates for Xmas?
Post by: B E C K on Dec 06, 2004, 03:36:34 AM
They decorate at work, which is kinda nice.  Also, this is the first year I've lived next to neighbors that decide to splay a bunch of crap on their lawn.  Their caroling snowmen strangely have the mouths of sex blow-up dolls.

I do but I have no funny stories. So can everybody please just pretend that I said something cool and funny?

I dont really decorate, my mom does but since we're moving at the end of this month there is no point.
i'd really like to have some glowy lawn snowmen, my aunt used to have some and snowmen always made me all kinds of happy for some reason.
I drew my  friend Mary a snowman the other day.

Was it an evil snowman?

My mom usually has the house decorated by now, I'm getting worried.

We're all decorated at work too, bows and garland on the lights, and random stars dangling from the ceiling.  Christmas music too.

Get one of the pine candles from a candle store @ the mall.

We used to have a normal-sized tree up nearly every year until a few years ago, ever since I can remember.  And it was the same fake tree, nearly as old as I was.  I think we finally got rid of it when we had to move.  So last year and this year, it's been a small fake tree.  I would put up lights on the house but I'd rather not have them jacked by the jolly neighborhood of theives.  The pine candle is a great idea.  I want one now.

And maybe I'm a hippy but killing a tree just to whore it up and look at it for a month before subsequently discarding its mangled corpse on the curbside just isn't something I don't think I could do.

But trees, like animals, are ours to use and dispose of.

And people.  Don't forget the people.   But no, I'll decline as much as possible without giving up the vast majority of my fun and worldly possessions and conveniences.

We started buying those big rosemary trees last year so we can plant them & enjoy fresh fragrant herbs after Christmas.  :)  Besides, they're too little for the cats to climb.  We have a 15' cedar bush out front that we drape with blue lights - looks very pretty & eerie swaying in the wind.

We had a big fake tree until this year. Instead of risking our nice ornaments being fucked up by the cats climbing in a tree and knocking it over, we got three little bitty trees. The cats are uninterested in them, and they take up a lot less space than a really huge tree.

Or go to the car wash.

When we had a real tree, our dog used to climb under and drink the water.

That's not uncommon for him, we're talking about a dog who'll eat a rabbit's corpse that has been lying around for a week.

I had a friend who put one of those decorative hooks in the ceiling and always had the tree under it so he could run some fishing line around the tree & anchor it.  Between that and a brick in the tree stand, the cats could climb, but not destroy!

I remember many a year where Button would climb our Christmas tree, which still amazes me because it was just a thin metal pole with the wire branches snapped in.  It's not like it was an actual tree with bark and everything...

I used to always string up my momma's lights, but I haven't bought any for my apartment this year.

I decorate, mainly because it brings back good memories.
