God fucking dammit.
I thought I was pretty immune to spyware, usually only going to websites that were safe and running Norton Antivirus as well as a cheap firewall.
Well, even with those precautions, I've been infected. I think it happened when I was looking for lyrics to La Resistance. Those god damn lyrics pages are filled with all sorts of ads and spyware.
You would think that looking for lyrics would be innocent, but noooooo, every lyrics site has to have a ton of shit for some stupid fucking reason.
So now I have some kind of program on my computer called "Desktop Toolbar" or "180 search engine" or something. It pops up a tiny toolbar when I reset my computer that has a search box on it. It also makes random ads pop up occasionally no matter what webpage I'm on.
Spybot Search & Destroy didn't remove it so I'm going to try other software.
So anyone here who doesn't think Spyware can get you, it can. You better get software to combat it, such as Spybot, AdAware, HijackThis, and change your browsers to something like Firefox or Opera or Mozilla.
Anyway, I'm going to stop bitching now. I'm off to find the person who wrote this program, and have him tell me how to remove it while I slice his fingers off one by one, and if it's a man, I'll cut off his penis last.

Haha.

You dumbass.

Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs

Idiot, you think I didn't think about that? Most spyware doesn't appear in the computer's registry. And even though one of the ones that got installed from that site did have a registry entry, every time I tried to remove it, it reinstalled itself.
Faye, try Lavasoft's AdAware. That seems to work.
-
Excuse me? Your computer sucks worse than mine, then. Every time I get something like that, I run Adaware first then remove the rest manually. If it doesn't appear in the Add/Remove Programs thing and I can't find it in my Program Files folder, Norton usually sees it as a virus and removes it for me.
And don't you dare call me an idiot when you're the one who was stupid enough to let that shit accumulate on your computer in the first place. If you really knew what you were talking about, then you wouldn't go to sites like that in the first place.
-
I never let this stuff accumulate on my computer, idiot. Half of it installed itself when I visited that link above.
And don't tell me you've never been to a lyrics page to look up a song or something. "sites like that"...you make it sound like I'm going to shady pr0n sites or bad warez sites. A lyrics website shouldn't be a bad place to go.
Here you're going off like I go to bad websites, neglect my computer which is supposedly worse than yours (even though it's a brand new computer), and it's so damn easy to remove spyware even though sometimes AdAware and manually removing it isn't enough.
-
I don't visit lyrics websites. Why would I need to? I don't care what a song says, so long as I like the sound of it. It's not like I go around posting angsty lyrics in my weblog or something.
My dad runs checks on my computer every months or so and finds nothing. This is on a second-hand Gateway notebook that was treated like crap before my dad fixed it. I'm sorry if your computer is a piece of shit. Is it a Dell or an HP? If it is, it's your own damn fault for buying such a cheap piece of crap in the first place.
-
What the fuck? That's part of your case that makes a cliam to Doug being an idiot? That you don't like singing?
-
No, I'm trying to say that I'm not an idiot. To say that Doug is an idiot is a statement of the blindingly obvious.
-
I've noticed that too... the whole lyrics-pages-have-miserable-garbage thing I mean, and it's simple when you think about it. Nearly everyone at one time or another is bound to look up song lyrics for whatever reason (to find out the name of that song they heard, or who sings it, or what they're saying, or... to post angsty lyrics in their weblog, lol) , so it's one of the prime candidates along with pr0n sites to give you ads, spyware, and whatnot up the whazoo.
-
Right, it's something everyone goes to evetually, and nothing that anybody spend enough time at to get a community taht complains about the structure of the site.
And Bitch, you are being dumb by decrying the very notion of lyrics.
-
I own a Gateway.
She just wants to make me look bad by making it seem like she's immune to any form of spyware or viruses and that only idiots and people surfing "wrong sites" like pr0n get it.
If anything, the only stupid thing I did was not install anti-spyware software earlier, and even that didn't help, because they software I had didn't even detect the thing that got on my computer. I had to use another program to remove it.
I have to scan my dad's computer on an almost weekly basis because he gets tons of spyware all the time. Last time I scanned a week ago, I couldn't remove all of the spyware with AdAware so I'm going to have to try again with other software. Even he's not immune, and he has Norton Antivirus and Norton Firewall, and the spyware goes right past it.

Wow. I like how Doug types like I can't read what he's saying.
I also like how he's trying to keep this thread going three days after Meg killed it. Keep beating that dead horse, Doug!
-
You don't need anyone's help to make you look bad.
-
Damn right.
-
Shit Wars images aren't getting any points for starters...

"Shit Wars"? Ha ha ha!
