This can be my shameless self promotion topic.
It's Mystic Fetus Comics, and it is located on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mystic-Fetus-Comics/160389270663345
It is a weekly comic, I do it in page format, storylines are separated by episodes, and I just started episode 2.
I think it is not very good, I have been drawing comics since I was very young but this is my first foray into making a real internet comic.
I'm quite a few years rusty, as I have been struggling with my fears of never being good enough to break into the comic business.
I decided that I want to do this for me, and I don't care if it's successful or if it sucks, as long as I'm enjoying making it, and that has given me the motivation I've been missing.
Also, I draw it all in photoshop using a Wacom 3 pad, but my photoshop-fu is weak. I am still learning.
If you guys care and even if you don't I'll post a link to new pages in this thread.
There are no fetuses in the comic btw. I really do not have a title for it just yet, but I'm sure it will come to me.
Here is my Dec 31st page.
-
I have been but I need to catch up. It's really good for it's fledgling state. Keep it going and I think it will be very good.
-
Yes, update this thread with links if you can. Sometimes I ban myself from Facebook and I'll forget you're updating because I'm scatterbrained. I didn't realize it wasn't titled yet. I thought it was just named after that little duder in your avatar.
-
Of course I've read it and still do.
-
Apparently I was already caught up.
I like it.
-
Yea I had to take a month and a half off cause of my work schedule.
I had originally planned to stretch out episode 1 a little longer but had to wrap it up.
It was for the better though, I had a long break to think about where I wanted to go from Ep 2 and on.
Beck, nah it's not titled after Bleet.
I really would go for a title that's related to the Hydra, who is really my central character the others orbit around.
Just can't come up with anything...
-
Hydra and the Bleet. The "the" gives him the celebrity status he deserves.
-
That makes it sound like a sitcom.
-
Then the name would be satire.
-
That makes it sound like a sitcom.
Starring Wanda Sykes as Hydra and Neil Patrick Harris as the Bleet?
-
NPH would totally make a good Bleet. I think I'd prefer Michael Ironside for Hydra though, or someone equally booming evil manly voiced.
I've got a character that would be good for Wanda Sykes, but I haven't debuted her yets.
-
That makes it sound like a sitcom.
Neil Patrick Harris as the Bleet?
Damnit I am on a conference call at work and now I have the version of the theme song for Dougie Howser MD that NPH did on SNL and I am tapping it on my desk rather loudly.
-
MFC Page 12 now up! (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=29062&id=160389270663345&saved#!/photo.php?fbid=173550056013933&set=a.171876832847922.29062.160389270663345)
-
When I read your nipple comment, I immediately saw panel three as having a slightly hairy boob on the floor.
-
Oh geese, I'm never going to get away from the boob comparisons now, am I?
Posted up page 13, revealing the title of the episode and it's main character.
-
double boob now
-
You're not helping.
-
I'm also not schlelping.
-
Actually, now I just see Stewie's head from Family Guy.
-
Now that is what I see.
-
Ah well that's an improvement I guess.
I created Citron back in middle school. He had his own strip where he fought dinosaurs I think. I called him the Super Lemon back then.
He will fill my do-gooder antagonist role for awhile.
-
Does he squeeze his butt-cheeks and squirt you in the eye with acid horridness?
-
No, I think I will be avoiding any crude anal squirting action in my comic.
Acid though, is one of his powets.
-
Auto correction on this forum will never cease to amuse me.
-
What do you guys think of my writing? I am trying, but I really don't know if I'm any good.
I always thought that was my weakest area, but I do think the 2nd ep is a step up in terms of consistent dialog.
I'm finding that as you get the characters further established, writing for them gets easier.
-
I think you're doing pretty good. I'm still reading it.
-
I think it's too early for me to make a judgment on the writing. I will admit I'm a teeny bit lost.
-
I'm a wee bit lost myself, and I'm writing the thing.
I am hoping it all figures itself out somehow. Like....I do know where it's going, it's the getting there part that's hard.
Yannow?
Anywho, page 14 is up today. I put a little tribute to Jim Davis in there.
-
So you are still just writing it as you go?
-
Most of it, yea.
I told you, I'm not a writer.
Here's gwynn's 10 steps to comic-ing.
1- I figure out a basic idea of what I want on a page
2- choose characters
3- draw characters multiple times doin stuff
4- pick drawings I like best and assemble them haphazardly on the page
5- figure out the order they should go in/ basic direction
6- find out what I'm missing and draw some more
7- finish layout
8- photoshoppy junk, colour(or lack thereof)
9- write out the dialog, proof read, put it on the page
10- stare at page with a strange sense of satisfaction
rinse, repeat...
-
That tubetop-alien is just begging to be Rule 34'd. :lol: I really like the designs of the characters on this page.
-
Begging? You just want to see that don't you?
Yea when Lucy gets 34'd, that's when I'll know I've really "made it".
-
Heh. Here are my 10 steps to writing a fanfic I've been planning for years:
1) think about something I like
2) invent some people to act it all out
3) write it down before I forget
4) lay out plotlines and create side-characters and locales
5) draw rough sketches and thumbnails of the same
6) invent worlds, cultures, and connections to existing canon
7) repeat steps 1-5 multiple times to create a
8) lose all the paperwork related to it
9) get depressed and give up for months or years
10) rinse and repeat entire cycle; try to remember everything from before.
-
Step 8) is my very favorite.
What kind of fanfic would it be?
-
Guess (http://bonr.shwiggie.com/index.php/topic,68.0.html) :P
-
I was expecting something with squirrels.
-
A furryfic? No, thanks.
-
Beast Wars Sexformers
-
It's a little late but 15 is now posted up! I've been distracted by my new lovely girlfriend.
Can you spot my nerdy reference for the week?
-
Nuri looks like the Baroness.
-
Nuri looks like the Baroness.
Huh. A little bit, yeah.
-
DESSSSSSTRRRRROOO!
No, rly, what?
-
You're the baroness! Now talk in a funny accent and show boobies!
-
The Baroness never showed her bewbs. You lie!
-
Well show us some cleavage at least, dayumm!
-
So I was kinda sorta coming here to post my page 20 cause I am extra smecial proud of the way it turned out and lo and behold IDE has turned this into a Baroness/Nuri's bewbs thread.
Well screw that!
REVENGE! >:(
(http://gilliangraves.homestead.com/files/comicpage20sm.jpg)
-
Mmmmmmm.... lemonade. ::Homer drools::
-
That's not bad, but is there someway to incorporate nuri's boobs into the comic?
-
It's possible. I would have to incorporate the rest of her though.
I already have some other requests I have to get through.
The first I've almost got done is to put my co-worker Roger in the comic.
Grrr-odge is him, though he hasn't technically spoken himself yet.
I based his design on a cross between Bowser, Bender, and Krang.
Also I promised to have corgis riding tanks by episode 5.
-
Why the rest of her? Nuri's disembodied boobs would make an excellent addition to any cast.
-
~~~~~~~~~~~(.)(.)
W00t! They just floated by.
-
Why the rest of her? Nuri's disembodied boobs would make an excellent addition to any cast.
And they could totally fight your disembodied balls.
-
I have 3 balls though so it wouldn't be a fair fight.
-
*Gasp* You have Hitler's lost ball! The Third Reich will rise again from there! That's why you are such a man whore, you are trying to create the son of Hitler!
You know that's a pretty good story, I might keep that.
-
My third ball demands a story credit if it gets optioned!
-
I have 3 balls though so it wouldn't be a fair fight.
You would need about six balls for this to be a fair fight.
-
OowwwWWOOOOoo!
Post these puppies!
-
Hell nah, son.
-
*squeezes IDE's 3 balls*
*squeezes Nuri's bewbs*
There, can we all move on now?
-
I feel left out. Damn.
-
*squeezes Fifi's bewbs*
-
Who squeeze's balls!? Honestly!?
-
Who squeeze's balls!? Honestly!?
Those that know how to do it properly and those that do not quite understand how sensitive they are.*squeezes Fifi's bewbs*
YAY!
-
Just finished 21!
(http://gilliangraves.homestead.com/files/comicpage21sm.jpg)
Balls are made for squeezin! Just be glad I didn't bounce them.
-
I don't know why, but I just tried to read that like a manga and it made no sense. Derp.
-
Who squeeze's balls!? Honestly!?
Evil people. Evil, funny people.
-
So remember when we talked about lemon tits?
http://lulzyunicorms.blogspot.com/2011/04/sour-tit.html
-
Girls are always after me sack of charms.
-
So remember when we talked about lemon tits?
http://lulzyunicorms.blogspot.com/2011/04/sour-tit.html
LOL! Dude, I totally thought that was a titty.
-
Since you guys can't keep your minds out of the gutter I did some (fan?)art of Citron all sexy and shit.
Enjoy jerks.
-
Wait...
Citron's a girl?
-
Haha, no.
Here, with colour.
-
But ... if the skin on Citron's head is yellow .... shouldn't the rest of the skin be that color, too? Is there some unknown origin that explains how this could be?
-
Don't overthink it man.
Yellow skin would make him look like a jaundiced freak or a Simpsons character.
-
And tan skin on the head would make it look like...?
-
I like this. Retcon it!
-
And tan skin on the head would make it look like...?
Stewie from Family Guy?
-
Hey gang! Here's the cover for the comic. Just have a lil more work to do cleaning up some old pages then I'm gonna work on getting it printed/promoted, then start on episode 3.
(http://gilliangraves.homestead.com/files/comiccover1sm.jpg)
-
That cover makes me want lemonade.
-
Shit..
Me too. Also makes me want to watch DS9.
-
New Episode!
New Page!
New story thing!
Hope you likes.
(http://gilliangraves.homestead.com/files/episode3page1sm.jpg)
-
I like the dynamic of the page.
Also, I just got the insane want to see Lobo fly by in a background or something.
-
Now in color! How much longer does that take to churn out than b&w?
-
It takes a wee bit longer. Like a week longer at least in gwynn time.
So worth it though.
-
Do you do all of the lineart on a tablet? I got a small Wacom Intuos and, shit, it's like I'm back in preschool.
-
Yea it's all done on an Intuos3 tablet, mine is a 6x11.
It takes some getting used to, as you've seen from back from my first few pages.
They really sucked.
-
New page today. Do you need me to post it here you lazy bums?
Okay fine I guess.
(http://gilliangraves.homestead.com/files/episode3page2sm.jpg)
-
I actually saw it first on FB. :)
-
Thank you for being a loyal reader Nurikins. :-*
I have not been attracting many new readers, even with the improved line works and colour pages.
Oh wells.
-
But that takes a while, right?
-
Have you thought about moving the comic to it's own dedicated site? Then you could have it listed in web comic lists. Once you get into those list you might start attracting new readers. I looked into all this back when I thought Simon Says might take off. (still think it would have honestly, but oh well.)
-
I have thought about doing that. It just seems like so much work. I am not versed in any sort of web design.
I've had some people offer to make me a site, but they were not fans of the comic nor did I know them very well.
I don't want someone I don't know running the homepage of my IP, you know what I saiyan?
Sooo if I do get some brainspace freed up to start a website, I'll end up having to do it myself(and It'll look like shit).
Waaah.
-
Yeah I know what you mean. I don't really know jack about web design either. I know HTML, but that's pretty outdated now.
The good thing is that since you aren't looking to make money off the comic, either with advertising or merchandise, that would make it easier to find a free site that won't cost you anything.
Or you could do it viva Blogspot and put it up there. It is pretty easy to use. I know a couple people here have them as well, myself included.
-
I'm not totally adverse to making money off of it, but I want any success it garners to be organic. It'll grow as the viewership grows, you know.
Basically I've been doing baby steps getting it out there, a website of it's own would sure help though.
The only merch I have planned for it is to print the first issue and give it out to anyone interested while I'm at Dragoncon.
Of course, if any of you want a copy I'll mail you one as well. I'm having a friend make me a MFC teeshirt, but it's just for me and to wear for one day at the con.
I would someday like to have vinyl figures made of my characters. That would be badass, but probably a couple years off.
Blogspot hmm, I have one of those, but I stopped using it.
I am putting all the pages up on my http://mysticfetus.deviantart.com/ (http://mysticfetus.deviantart.com/), but people are far more interested in my fan art.
-
Give it time to find a following. I think the Blogger thing is a good idea. People can follow you on it and you can put your blog in a category for people browsing for stuffs to read.
-
If you did blogspot or whatever it's called that I have I would totally follow you, but mine will not generate any traffic for you because I think I haven't updated since December.
-
Yeah, mine's pretty sporadic, too. But I'll follow you.
-
I'd follow you as well, but like the two above I haven't been working on my blog much lately.
-
Much love to you guys. I just tried to resurrect my old blogspot and realized why I never go there, I really hate it.
So yea, you all rock for saying you'd follow me, but I don't like blaaaaargspot in the slightest.
I'd rather set up a twatter account, and I sure as hell don't plan on doing that.
~gwynn(who hates modern social networking)
-
Speaking of social networks, have you guys heard of Canvas?
http://canv.as/
-
I'm definitely more interested in your scoleri brothers piece.
-
Much love to you guys. I just tried to resurrect my old blogspot and realized why I never go there, I really hate it.
So yea, you all rock for saying you'd follow me, but I don't like blaaaaargspot in the slightest.
Why do you hate it?
-
and in just your piece in general, you're kinda cute.
I pictured you as fat with glasses for some reason.
-
Who, Gwen? Nah, Gwen is cute.
-
I didn't draw the Scoleri Bros piece, it's a fav(ie someone else's work) My stuff is in my gallery.
Blogspot's interface is the main reason I hate it. I got lost just trying to figure out how to edit my page, it's not very user friendly.
Or at least not gwynn friendly.
I do wear glasses most of the time, but I'm pretty lean. I don't eat a lot and I keep active.
I wish I was cute like this Gwen. ::)
-
What do you mean you wish?
That's you in the "me after a gwar show" pic right?
You are cute.
Out of your stuff I like the moth, chill man, and that hydra character.
-
I wish I was cute like this Gwen. ::)
:(
-
Look what you did, Jason. You hurt Gwen's feelings. :rawr:
-
Who is Jason? Jason Sedekis? Is he here?
-
If you don't like Blogspot, I'm sure you know that there's a hundred more out there...Blogger, Wordpress.com, Typepad, Live Journal, Squarespace, etc. I'd try a couple or ask around and see if there's one you might like.
-
I got a webspace up at comicfury nows! http://wastesofspace.thecomicseries.com/
I'm still getting it up to date. I have to learn some html to make it pretty like, but this site is very nice(and free).
Episode 3, page 4 is now up on the facebook site. https://www.facebook.com/mysticfetus
Grrr-Odge is based off of this guy I work with btw. He's a big lummox type guy and he really wanted to be in my comic. =P
-
Love the name for him.
-
More Wastes for your Space!
http://wastesofspace.thecomicseries.com/ (http://wastesofspace.thecomicseries.com/)
Yea I didn't realize until after I posted it up that if I had waited till tomorrow, this could be considered insensitive content.
Planes crashing and what have you.
Also this page features my first decapitation of the comic! Woo! Decapitation!
I'm really looking forward to getting started on the next page, where I introduce some more characters.
Just WHO was piloting that ship?
-
W-what? Dead already?
Yea I didn't realize until after I posted it up that if I had waited till tomorrow, this could be considered insensitive content.
Planes crashing and what have you.
Only if Grrr-odge was shaped like two buildings.
-
I never said he was dead. I did tell my friend Roger(who he is based off of) that I would eject him into space at some point.
So yea, not dead...just decapitated.
-
B-b-but how can he live without his head?
We'll find out next week!
Or, you know, whenever you tell us.
-
New page up today, suckas!
Oh yea, Grrr-Odge is an android, robot, whatever.
If you've followed the comic, before Zig altered him into a killing robot to fight Citron, he was a one of the GBOGAKs.
GBOGAK stands for Grunt Bot Only Good At Killing Kleaning.
-
Oooh, I likes Kleaning!
-
But like Combat....Cleaning doesn't start with a K!
-
Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kleaning! Test your mop!
-
Put in a character based on me!
And to help you summon up all the hate you will need to write a villain that you truly despise I will relay my latest conquest!
So I met this girl and conned her into thinking "OMG I can't believe this instant connection we have!" blah blah blah. "Let's only date each other!" blah blah. And then POW! I slam out her vagina last night so hard it's all bruised today. She's all concerned that maybe we shouldn't have slept together so soon, but I assure her that I'm here to stay and we're not just a hook up. BUT WE ARE! and when she finds out she will feel that cold sinking feeling in her gut as her heart is crushed into a million tiny pieces and I stand atop that pile of broken heart and crow to the world. For I am the cock that shall sound the beginning of Ragnarok.
-
I can't tell, do you think my comic hasn't caught on that much because of the art? I realize all the kids nowadays likes that anime, and pan American style cartoons.
I personally don't watch anime, I loathe asian culture for the most part. I can't get my brother who loves anime to give a crap about my comic, nevermind that I'm his sister.
Honestly I do maintain a very steady readership according to my comicfury account, but none of those people comment or visit my facebook page or want to get involved and say hey or whatever.
I feel a little disconnected from my fanbase I guess is my problem. I wish there was something I could do.
I do hope to include a donate button on the site by years end. By then I should have about 1000 viewers.
When I went to a panel for webcomic artists at Dragoncon, one of the panelists said that for every 1000 readers, you will get 1 person that will want to pay you for your hard work.
That is probably pretty accurate.
-
I think, in general, there's a glut of webcomics and it's hard to find all of them. I'm sure you have many potential readers that just need to come across your stuff. I'd say give it time and just keep doing what you're doing and developing a nice fat archive of material. Have you tried getting on those list majiggers or those websites that have links and links of webcomics? Maybe you'll snag some more readers that way.
-
this is kinda sorta a webcomic without pictures. it's about a guy who teaches his cat to im. http://louisvsrick.com/
